    I actually sold my Yuneec Q500 to finance the Osmo+ earlier this year. I've been completely satisfied with it. I helped produce a pinball podcast earlier this year (Allentown Pinfest) with it, and it was excellent. We hooked an H6 portable mixer to it, and it worked wonderfully. Great review as always!

    I have had one since its release and have used it very often both for personal use and business. Most people have complained about its start up connectivity but seriously it takes me less than 30 seconds to have it on, connected and recording which is much faster than balancing another gimbal. I run mine with the rode videomicro so excellent audio. Only downside I have had is low light capability because of the small 1/2.3 sensor. If DJI came out with a new version containing the 1" sensor out of the Phantom 4 pro then it would seriously be a perfect all around camera for indoor and out. Awesome review video as always!

      What I am hinting on is to please DJI, make a handle for the new X4S off the Inspire 2.

    I have had an OSMO+ since it's release. It has great stabilization and video as you described and some of the firmware upgrades that were needed have been helpful. (It has the same gimbal/camera as the Inspire 1). I would like to have image/face tracking added though. It makes shooting action sports a bit easier. Especially when zoomed in on the subject. Having said that, there are three gimbal/camera movement speeds to select from and an additional two speeds which you can customize to your needs/liking. There are a couple of small quirks but there are more upside features than downside. I too feel that the OSMO+ hasn't received the love it deserves. If it did, I suspect more people would buy it and DJI would possibly support it more and provide some of the software/features that the OSMO Mobile has (like image/face tracking). OSMO Mobile may be easier to use in some cases but the OSMO+ has more flexibility/options and a better camera that make it, for me, better than the OSMO Mobile. Thanks for the review and bringing the OSMO+ to the attention of the masses!

      the competition is hard this day, even xiaomi has that option, with their own ghimbal and attach any yi cam or go pro cam. and then zhiyun sell 3d gimbal with less 150 usd for smartphone. so i still consider to buy zhiyun gimbal for smartphone because it is cheaper.

      Have you seen this video? It uses tracking via the app "Vertical Studio". A bit slower than the mobile-version, but seems to work ok. vimeo.com/198328223

      How's low light with is osmo + ?

    • @ThePhotoForce
      @ThePhotoForce 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Very similar to what you would find with the Phantom 3, 4, mavic or gropros when it comes to low light because of its small sensor. Hope that helps,

    Ive had the osmo+ for about a year and love it. Its extremely versatile and in my opinion much better than the osmo mobile minus not being able to face track. With the + being able to mount it on a car and use the phone remotely to view and control is a huge benefit that the mobile doesn't have. I agree with you and feel its very underrated.

  • @vince.lesremarques
    @vince.lesremarques 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Hey man, one important point you forgot- which is a deal breaker to me, is that the osmo works with your phone. Not only does it get even larger / more awkward than even the biggest of dslr with your phone, but it's just very annoying / not practical. It looks like a good vlogging option, but sacrificing the use of your phone everytime you're shooting? Hell no. And using it without the phone is just not an option, imo.
    If it had a nice screen built in, that wasn't awkwardly placed floating on the side, and optionnally to make it even better, a nice mount on the top to hold the external mic, then I think a lot of people would consider it.

    • @WhiteWulfe
      @WhiteWulfe 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It also supposedly works with the 5.5" CrystalSky display, if you'd prefer that instead of your phone if you need a monitor. Best part too is you can add in the straight arm extension to get two mounts, which also puts your phone (or monitor) in a more ergonomic area, PLUS you can also use the Universal Mount to be able to hard mount an external microphone.

    • @vince.lesremarques
      @vince.lesremarques 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      White Wulfe and jumps the price and would still be a settup thats twice as big as a dslr, let alone a mirrorless, let alone a compact

    • @WhiteWulfe
      @WhiteWulfe 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Monitor can be used for other things too, but I can definitely see the argument. As for DSLR/mirrorless/compact camera, you still have to get a gimbal if you want that stabilization.

    • @vince.lesremarques
      @vince.lesremarques 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      White Wulfe well that is true, but needs for that good of stabilization (compared to say, basic stabilisation in canon lenses, rx100v, sony mirrorless, gh5...) is limited. Most people looking for stabilized footage will want things the osmo can't offer, first, a choice of different lenses, etc.

    •  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      besides the phone issue, What about the sound issues? I have one osmo + and I´m shooting with a external rode mic. I thougt great for interviews but sound and pic are not synced after a short while of shooting. definitely shit and it is still not solved yet. the other thing is the wired lens flares you got with all the dji drone cams except the new ones with actual physical shutter. it makes filming impossible, if the light comes from the side. All of that is why you can not really use it to work with. and it is really sensible to vibration. mounted it on a bike, with the bike mount, but it vibrated so hard horizontal, that the footage could not be used. and that was a street tour normal streets on a normal bike.... so i don´t know i´m really disappointed and hoping for software solutions that may never come, it does not look like dji is fostering that product very much. best regards

  • @mododah

    I was an early adopter after using the first Osmo for a few months. I like it, but the bulkiness is my main concern. While the case is nice, it doesn't hold enough for a shoot (extra batteries, decent microphone, etc.).
    I always enjoy your reviews; keep up the great work!

    Perfect review, buddy! I have my own DJI OSMO + and I have experienced extraordinary quality in my video production. It deserves all attention and respect, even in 2024.
    I recommend buying it instead of those modern and fragile competitors. I am very happy with my OSMO + since I bought it in 2019, and I strongly recommend it!

    The no drone zone sign is only for taking off and landing in that specific area. One can always go outside of the "no fly zone", take off and fly over to that area. Why, because no one owns air space and it is the FAA who sets guidelines and regulations for flying.

    There is nothing better than a review that has the right information with some personal humour to make it interesting. Well done. I enjoy your channel. I have an OSMO Mobile, took it travelling with me but now I am looking at the OSMO+ because I want to be able to pick it up and shoot even if a phone is not physically mounted. The camera on the Osmo+ seems more than adequate for holiday videos and semi-commercial filming. I believe having an external microphone connector is a good trade for active track because I have found active track drops when the Bluetooth connection is interrupted by power lines anyway. In case anybody reads this who is looking between the Mobile and the Osmo+, Osmo Mobile uses Bluetooth not WiFi and you need a very recent high-end phone to get a good stable connection and video results from the OSMO Mobile making the OSMO+ my next option. Thanks for the great review and sample videos! When is this world domination coming about?

  • @lwhited1
    @lwhited1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I never knew I had such a fantastic camera until you put all that drama on it! Seriously I like my Osmo + a lot. For more rugged stabilized video I have a GoPro Hero 5Black and a Removu
    S1. It was terribly noisy when I first got it but the first firmware upgrade solved that completely. Now it's a great goto for rugged in potentially wet environments. I sail and kayak a lot so the Removu has been a nice addition. As for the Osmo+. I totally agree it is a sleeper. There are some pretty good luts out there for D-log on the Osmo. No reason not to use it regularly!
    Thanks for the highly entertaining review (as always). Take care and happy shooting

    Watched your Osmo Mobile vs. Zhiyun Review yesterday, then bought the Osmo+ this morning only to see this review came out hours later. Not disappointed with my decision after seeing how much you enjoyed it! I like how you used the car mount on the front and back of the convertible. I'll have to look into getting one of the extension rods though.

    Iv'e been using Osmo for more than a year and the only downside I could find is the slow process of connecting your Osmo via wifi to your phone. Every time you have to fiddle around with wifi instead of just switching on and using it right away like any other handheld camcorder. Other than that, it's probably the best all in one solution for home made and even pro video shooting on the market today.

    The problem I'm having with the Osmo+ is that when it has to break files past the 2GB file limit, there's a GAP! this occurs around 9 mins in for 4K footage.

  • @jonccwong
    @jonccwong 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    it's all that you mentioned + it can use the Zenmuse M1 head which effectively turn it into a Osmo Mobile (and you get active track back)
    honestly its the best low profile gimbal camera.

    You know I dig your videos. I actually have an Osmo+, I got it at the end of 2016. I'm using it today, along with BatMavic, for some cottage footage of the fun.
    It does have its drawbacks but overall it's a great piece of gear. I considered doing a review video of it back when I got it but I assumed I was already a late adopter and fingered there would be plenty of them out there. Go figure

    After a disappointment with the somo mobile + iPhone 8, i did some research and THIS is what you want for stabilized video. In addition to avoiding the OIS problems, the Osmo has the camera perfectly centred in the gimbal. All together this makes some great stabilisation.

    Soooo glad you reviewed the Osmo+. Like you mentioned, it's rather difficult to find a proper review of the newer version - I pretty much gave up trying to find one and was pleasantly surprised to see you post on about a week after I started looking. ^_^ I'm especially happy to see you showcasing it in all sorts of real world applications, such as on an extension arm AND on the hood of a vehicle. I don't own one (but have plans on picking one up eventually), and find it rather nice that the 5.5" CrystalSky monitors also work with it, which is nice because if you don't mind paying the cost of the monitor it frees up your phone for other uses (like, as a phone or something, I suppose :P)

    Osmo gen 1 user here. One of the reason the OSMO + wasnt given much attention was because it was released within a year or closer to 6months of the osmo gen 1. It was a real douche move for early adopters.
    Most people got the OSMO Gen 1 from the raving reviews it had. And DJI came in and released this, similar sensor with the zoom and a the most douche feature: the motion timelapse or tracking. Much discussion and request were brought up on their forums but the engineers played dumb and refused to provide the feature. Stating that it was a hardware limitation.
    Somewhere in the Appstore, where was an app called Litchi that could do just that. It wasnt that people didnt want to buy the OSMO +, it was because they cannibalised their own market and showed their true intentions to their users, if not they think that most of their users are crazy wealthy people that can buy their products every 6 months.
    Tell me this analysis isnt true, any phantom 4 to OSMO users and understand this sentiment, your product dropping 40% of its value within 6months of purchase. This is where DJI sucks at, other than monopolising the drone market...

    • @jonitan76
      @jonitan76 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      may be they just too enthusiast of the success of osmo, it was the first of its kind... so they release another one.. yeah its stupid for the,.. its canibalize the old version one. and suddenly osmo + sold less than osmo, so they not release another update after that.. and its still a great tech though especially for youtuber.. who want 4k, with zoom lens like dslr but still cheaper + it come with mic, and 3d gimbal..

    When I started watching this review, I waited until the moment you would get to the downsides of this camera, and it didn't come ! Turns out there is just too few people knowing about this, and that's too bad because I think it's a great improvement over the initial osmo.

    It's quite nicely built too, accidentally left it out filming a timelapse in the rain and it survived. It was pouring and covered.

    Great review. I want to buy this or the other gimbal for smartphones. Is that camera worth the extra $350? Thanks look forward to your future reviews.

    One thing of this Osmo series is great low light footage for what it is . Its a pity Dji near enough has forgotten about them, any accessories now are a ebay hunt

    Hey... Look what I comment here. 😂 love your channel. I always look up to your opinion on tech products. Because you are thorough with testing the products, while having a good sense of humor. Hope you soon do another vlogging session like the Hawaii trip

    The argument in favor of the OSMO Mobile is that it's significantly cheaper and you can upgrade the "camera" on it later on when you get a new phone (supposedly you can do that with the Zenmuse lenses too but that's a more limited range of options).
    However this is an excellent option and I kind of wish I'd gotten one instead of the iPhone 7+/Osmo Mobile solution I'm working with now :/

    Love your reviews and glad to see the Osmo + get some love. I have the original Osmo and love it for many of the reasons you point out here. AS much as I'd love the Osmo Plus, I'm holding out hope that they release an even newer Osmo with the 1-inch sensor found in the Phantom 4 and Inspire 2. Are you listening DJI ???

    Do you think it is still a good device today (it was release 2 year ago)? I was thinking in get this product or get the osmo Mobile 2 + gopro hero 6 + adapter. What do you think is best? I read a lot and I know some pros and cons (go pro is waterproof, osmo has zoom, etc). But which one has better image? Considering I will use it to self photos and videos on trips alone.

    Thanks for your video, I'm looking to buy the Steadyam Volt, but can't find much yet. Have you had the chance to use it, would you do a review at some point comparing with a gimbal?

    I love the Osmo+ and want to upgrade from my Osmo.
    The only issue I see is that the AF is slow, so the image gets sometimes blurry, specially when you are zooming in fast until yo stop.
