    I believe the reason the port isn't in the back is to protect the port from getting damaged, in the event the whole unit gets pushed back into a wall, or whatever is behind it.

      I may also allow for a wider variety of sim mounts. (Maybe some clamp around the back of the pedal assembly?) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      It's mainly to avoid having to constantly bend down and reattach the cable every so often when if falls out. By having the cable mount to the inside then bend 180 degrees like that is to make it nearly impossible to accidentally disconnect the cable.

    • @matthewd9356
      @matthewd9356 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That was my thought to. Personally I would have put it on the underside like they did with the connector between the main pedals and the clutch. They could even still have that bend to help keep the plug from disconnecting just off to one side but also protected from your foot slipping or whatever.

    I was surprised to hear Asetek were entering the sim racing arena. Wow they went all out on these pedals. I’d be interested to see how much they will cost in the UK as compared to say Heusinkveld Engineering Sim Pedals Ultimate+ which if I had the space or budget would probably be on the list.
    Important to get out there to any new comers thinking of getting in to sim racing, that a lot of the high end equipment is beyond the average persons budget.
    I totally agree with Jay that the professional experience and feel that you get from high end equipment can not be met by entry level equipment.
    But do not let that put you off. I still use a Logitech G27 and am comfortably beating friends that have spent near 10K on extremely high end sim setup.
    You don’t have to spend thousands to be fast, don’t get me wrong if I could I would😀, entry level stuff is more than enough if that all your budget can afford.

    The Jay content I didn't know I needed. Awesome information.

  • @ChrisCiborowski
    @ChrisCiborowski 2 ปีที่แล้ว +44

    Love your content but you’ve made a couple slightly incorrect statements about the brake. The elastomers are for the soft stage and the pedal will travel regardless of the elastomer hardness. You adjusted the preload on the back which is the pad to disk take up “simulation” which is the first part of the soft stage, not the whole soft stage. The elastomers finish the soft stage. Push more and the pedal will lock out - ie - stop moving completely - you’re in the hard stage, but you can continue to brake due to the system still measuring the pressure of the fluid without any brake pedal movement. This is the big difference when compared to all other hydraulic and load cell pedals, they have to continue to move to measure pressure - even if a small amount - and that is not what happens with a race car pedal. In race brakes once the pads are on the disk completely there is zero pedal movement, just pressure.

    • @boostedmedia
      @boostedmedia 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Almost spot on, except other hydraulic systems will also continue to measure an increase in pressure past the mechanical bump stop, it’s just that most are designed with a longer throw so you’re likely to actually reach it before maxing out your calibration. It’s very unusual to physically max out the 1000+ PSI sensors typically used on hydraulic pedals.

    • @ChrisCiborowski
      @ChrisCiborowski 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@boostedmedia wow, Will commenting on my comment!! For sure, it would take a Herculean effort to get to the bump stop on my Tilton-based hydraulics - so effectively they’re going to still have movement but you’re right they still would measure pressure if locked out.

      Next level racing have hotas mounts for there GTtrack rig. The mounts are an additional £150 ontop of the cost of the main rig which is around £650. then youl need a a couple of grand for the sim hardware aswell.
      i personally went for mounts that attach to my office chairs frame and kept the sim rig set up for racing only. Its an expensive rabbit hole, but such a good rabbit hole to go down.

      Have a look at sim-lab too, and rigmetal in the US. Aluminium profile based rigs are the most flexible so you could in theory get all your hardware mounted to those

    • @nejcmirtic529
      @nejcmirtic529 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you want to do both, driving and flying the best rig you can buy is 8020 aluminium extrusion. If you really want flex free and infinitely adjustable rig, that is the only way. I would look at 120mm minimum for flying, to gain the extra height to accommodate the mechanism/mounting solution for rudder pedals and regular pedals. If in EU I would look at the SimXPro XT120 or the better/sturdier option XT160 or the OG of alu rigs SimLab P1-X which is also 160mm. It is the industry standard for 8020 rigs, since it is the sturdiest option and later upgradable to accommodate ANYTHING.
      If you are in the US, you can look at Track Racer TR120/160, GTOmega Prime, ASR 4 and ASR6. For the UK you have GT Omega Prime and Si Turnbull rigs.
      I built my own 80x40mm rig at the beginning for 280€ to mount the G29 to it, and can with no problem now run CSW 2.5 with V3 pedals (skip those, get the BJ GT Steel (Mechanical) for almost the same). And this black Friday I finally decided it is time to upgrade the 15 year old logitech joystick, and got the Warthog combo for 370€ (was looking at VKB Gunfighter Mk.III and VIRPIL Throttle, but decided it is a big enough improvement already and I can later have 2 good joystick systems if needed). And I can say that I had no problem adding the HOTAS on top of the original driving sim setup.

      Google DIY sim racing shifter with clutch lockout. Someone has a great diy online for a shifter that also has a lockout where you have to use the clutch to shift. One of those with a transducer mounted to the bottom for driveline vibration and the sense of clunking into gear would give you a great sense of immersion.

    Damn. I was really hoping these would be cheaper. Really hard to get into the hobby when you need to drop several thousand on kit. ~£900 for the peddles. I'm guessing the DD wheel will be £1000+ and then another £200 for the shifter? Oh well. Going to have to hope someone's selling a G29 or something on eBay.

    • @filanfyretracker

      most people enter sim hobbies on cheaper parts in flight/space you see a lot of Thrustmaster T16000 sticks for example.

    • @YayDanMan
      @YayDanMan 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want to start out and are looking for gear trying out a G29 or similar is the best bet, the amount of people who bought big due to staying home in the past 2 years and have started selling up because they say they don't have the time to make the most of it is quite high
      Gear of this spec and price is the stuff you check out when you're absolutely committed

    • @douglasm3310
      @douglasm3310 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A g29 is a great starter if you wanna go a little more Gucci you can get the new fanatec budget direct drive wheel it’s like $700 for the base a wheel and a pedal set that’s pretty decent.

    • @rand0mtv660
      @rand0mtv660 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can try looking for a Thrustmaster T300RS. It should be better than G29 and it does come with 3 pedals (I think Gran Turismo edition has 3 pedals). Shouldn't break the bank like some of these parts you mentioned, but should be a decent entry point. It doesn't come with a shifter out of the box, but neither does the G29. Although the shifter for the T300RS is more expensive than G29 shifter, it's also more versatile supporting H shifting or sequential shifting and definitely feels more robust compared to G29, but there is a noticeable price difference between the two.

    I realized that the secret to making a million is saving for a better investment. I always tell myself you don't need that new Maserati or that vacation just yet. That mindset helped me make more money investing. For example last year I invested 80k in stocks (with the help of my Financial Advisor of course) and made about 246k, but guess what? I put it all back and traded with her again and now I'm rounding up close to a million.
