    • @vukpsodorov5446
      @vukpsodorov5446 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@geoffreycuypers2602 well, they're intended to deliver power. it's not exactly as clear cut as digital signals (1s and 0s). depending on the internal build quality, they could end up overheating, or not giving the GPU enough current, etc. this could happen if the copper inside is of relatively poor quality, the conductors are too thin, or even too close together and not properly insulated. of course, the chances of these problems occurring scale with how cheap of a connector you bought, and how hungry the card is. quality connectors shouldn't have this problem, and hungry cards pull more power through the conductors which can lead to more heat and hitting current limits for that particular conductor (for example, it's physically unable to let more current through at 12V). poor conductivity (increased resistance) leads to these limits being lower.

I set a custom case fan curve based on my VRAM temps since I have a 3080. The GDDR6x is by far the hottest running thing in my system, so it makes the most sense. I'm running a 5600x with a beefy cooler, and CPU temps never get above the upper 50's, so controlling the case fans based on CPU temp made no sense. @MacCheetah3 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed, it is nice having iCue control all of the fan speeds. However, because Corsair doesn't use the standard ARGB connector, iCue can't also control the LEDs -- maybe there's an adapter but I didn't have patience trying to find and test one. So, I need to use Armoury Crate for the RGB. Although, RGB control will always be the ornery elephant in the room thus little benefit in complaining.
      P.S. The Light Wings are indeed a very nice step up. As Jay stated, the extra range (i.e. higher max RPM) helps a lot when pushing full workloads. Yet, they maintain an acceptable sound (just the whrrr).

    As great as the huge modern graphics cards look - like the EVGA FTW3 cards - the difference between a thicc and tall 2.5 or 3 slot card and a 2 slot one is pretty big once you enter the ITX relm. I'd probably only go for a maximum size card in an ITX chassis if I knew from someone else on the internet that my hardware was going to fit without issues. Even then, I tend to change ITX cases every year or two and I wouldn't want to have to worry about a huge GPU fitting.

      Personally, I think Mini-ATX cases that have 4 (or 5)-slot are gonna be the standard for air-cooled high end cards. I've noticed this since the RTX 2000 cards especially when they stopped making ITX-sized cards all together.

    You've probably had time between making this video and getting it onto YT, but if you've not found a way to resolve the fan situation, I use Argus Monitor which allows you to select any fan header to follow any temp sensor. Pretty simple to use and has a 30 day trial. You can save your fan curves and then save the profile and have it load the selected profile at startup.
    Also that build montage was a piece of art and Phil truly outdid himself.

      Yup, you could easily solve it with some creative thinking, which is practically a requirement for SFF builds if you want to do something other than a barebones kit. It requires research into compatible parts, some modding, some compromises and pushing the limits. I've personally shaved the plastic around front panel connectors to get an ATX PSU into the OG RVZ01 (i.e. non -E). That same build had me making custom shrouds out of cardboard (didn't have any foamboard on hand) to direct hot air from the CPU cooler straight out of the case, as the cooler wasn't up against the side panel vent and the CPU position on my ITX board wasn't perfectly alligned with it.

    The issue with the PCIE supplemental power I had with all the SFF cases I had until I found this PCIE 180 deg offset adapter. It's basically a PCB with a input and output power connector soldered on that allows you to plug in power from the back plate area without having to bend the cable. Side steps the issue of having the cable bends add a couple of centimeters to an already tight fit.
