The dual size outboards is so unique we just had to take a closer look. And Larry is always a hoot. Very well known in the yacht world around here. Quite possibly the only yacht company owner that wears Wranglers. Such a gem!
I like the Aspen 35 a LOT! It would make a perfect Loop boat, with that super low air draft you wouldn't even need to fret about the western Erie Canal if you wanted to stay in the States. Seems to have plenty of storage for gear and provisions, and I suspect they could even put a third solar panel on the front portion of the hardtop. One of the very few dings is that it's a single wet head, and I don't really see any way to do anything about that in the amount of space available.
Thanks for watching. We need to do the loop someday…sounds fun! Next time I talk to Larry I’ll ask him about an additional head. Probably not an option but you never know.
Our Aspen C100 32' has snaps for a shower curtain (cockpit sink) allowing us to shower in the cockpit, then step back into the interior where we have interior privacy curtains installed.
My Aspen is set for salmon fishing with. down riggers, pot puller for crab and shrimp. Salmon go on ice in the cockpit cooler which in turns makes it easier to keep fresh and clean. We also have two fresh water showers in the cockpit and one salt water wash down to rinse blood.
I'm baffled. They made one side thinner to use a smaller engine? What happens if the larger sized engine goes out? Will the 115 power the lopsided boat at an adequate speed? If so, why not use 2 of them instead, and make both sides the same? You are just giving up volume to use a smaller motor, and now you have 2 parts lists, 2 maintenance procedures, and 2 design/engineering paths going forward. There is no free lunch. This is like taking 1/2 of the 35' and mating it to the 31' model and calling it a 33', and strutting around like you invented something.
Done for Fuel Efficiency the numbers he gave are impressive for a boat that size even more so with outboard gas engines. There are a dozen or so other companies that make symmetrical catamarans if that is what you desire.
Its a interesting concept for sure, im my experience with planning hulls bigger engines spinning bigger props at lower rpm generally give better fuel consumption then smaller engines at higher rpm to give the same speed. Most people seem to find this concept counter intuitive.
Haaa…classic. Thanks for watching though. It’s greatly appreciated! It’s hard to tell by looking at the hull that the two sponsons are different size. When you see the outboards though your like…what on earth??? Larry is an absolute wizard at this stuff and has it all dialed in.
I was right there with you for many yrs of boat shows-but I kept coming back to the geekiness of the Proa design. I've been out in weather where I was the only boat and it was smooth.
I love everything about this Aspen guy- right down to his Wrangler jeans. Great boat builder. I'm a fan!
Aspen Power this concept and embodiment are considerably inspiring. Thank you.
Lovely and thanks for the reply
Wow, that is an impressive boat. Incredible design/build quality.
