    I have used a HK stabiliser and get the shuddering when the gains are too high. Setting them is an iterative process but once achieved allow flying in conditions that are normally too severe

    The twitching might be because your transmiter is too close to the airplane. Mine does the same when im less than 50cm away. :) Nice vid mate!

    Parameters should dictate your roll rate in stabilised modes... Once your pids are tuned you'll see the advantage of hold mode in crappy conditions... Have fun :)

    At 18:20 where you show the gyro - it seems the ELE gyro pot is set to minimum.. see the 2 tiny dots, they should be at the top - like the other 2 pots... unless manufactured defectively.
    If correct - this may explain why you did not like the gyro that much ?

    Nice review. I thought that motor coming off might be an issue. Looks like you didn't put that little T piece in still ?. As for the Stabilizer, Pfffft I ordered the Kit version as couldn't see it doing that much. Plenty of options to add one later if required. Might chuck the Bigaole 6G-AP in mine as it has GPS RTH which could be handy for a small hard to spot little ship. Happy flying.

    Have you seen the Frsky S6R?
    Stabilized 6 channel rx, I may get one in the new year to try on something.
    Looks quite compact, about the same size as a normal rx.

    Great video! A couple questions... what is your All up Weight? What is the stall speed around with that? And have you used the wing wing z-84? If so, how would this compare?

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      AUW should have been about 580g (th-cam.com/video/BdBlrEdJN-k/w-d-xo.htmlm36s)
      No clue about stall speed, how do I even measure that?
      I have used the Z-84 but it was my first plane when I had no experience and it has been a while since I flew it, all I can say is the Z-84 is probably easier to fly since it can happily go quite slow, but then again I wasn't using a big 2200mAh battery with it either.

    • @jasonfranciosa
      @jasonfranciosa 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      iforce2d thank you, how does the size compare with the wing wing? The wing span on the z84 is a bit bigger, but how is the chord? 580 grams is heavy for the z84. Thank you for the info!

    • @jasonfranciosa
      @jasonfranciosa 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      iforce2d wow, it's considerably larger. I'm experimenting with making a tiny mapping platform for a 100 gram sensor. I have a Z84 on the way but the all up weight is going to be around 600 grams which is a bit much for that wing. Looks like this one may be able to handle a bit more weight more comfortably.

  • @MatthewEvansFPV
    @MatthewEvansFPV 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey, where did you end up in terms of center of gravity? 125mm seems a bit too far back to me?

  • @51im
    @51im 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    surely a stationary prop would create more drag than a freewheeling prop. Also everyone seems to struggle getting enough weight in the front so why not mount the motor directly to the large carbon plate without the standoffs fitted.This would move the weight of the motor forward, making it easier to obtain the correct CG.

    • @BigMeanyVids
      @BigMeanyVids 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Freewheeling is always worse. Best is of course folding props like gliders.

    • @51im
      @51im 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      BigMeanyVids
      why is freewheeling worse.

    • @7airisq
      @7airisq 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris Edwards Because a freewheeling one will act something like a main rotor of an autogyro, which is essetially frewheeling (or autorotating), creating a lot of lift. Think of the prop as of wing; when it spins in the airflow the air smoothly goes around its front and rear surfaces which creates a lot of lift (or drag in this case). But when the prop is stationary, air only pushes on the front surface, and there is turbulence behind the rear surface of the prop (kind of like on a stalled wing), which is waaay less drag! :)

    • @51im
      @51im 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TheFPVDude
      Yeah this has confused me for ages. I am starting to come round to your way of thinking. More because I have started to realise that a spinning prop creates a larger area of turbulent air, which has got to be a bad thing.
      It takes things like this a few days to soak into my brain. The older I get the longer it takes.😎

    • @spyder000069
      @spyder000069 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I run my z-84 to 6k+ and back all the time. :^) I am looking at this plane too as it might have a little more speed than the z-84 and the z-84 has a terrible stall spin that is tough to get out of. I have yet to find a better fpv plane than the mini talon but this looks fun. I don't care for black though. Prefer to not stick out while flying.

    How long do you think your flight time would be with that 2200 battery? I've had my eye on the TBS caipirinha and was intrigued by the approx 30 minute flight times with a similar weight battery. This wing seems comparable in wingspan at least.

    Most stabilizers keep the throttle to at least 10% in flight

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you mean by 'in flight'? How does it know it's flying?
      I don't think this one does anything to the throttle, it's purely a stabilizer, not a proper flight controller.

    • @ernestoditerribile
      @ernestoditerribile 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      iforce2d when you opened the throttle the gyro senses the moving of the plane. If there is no movement in 100ms the stabilizer turns off, and your ESC does brake again.

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, not in this case. The trace on the main board from the rx throttle signal goes directly to the ESC signal pin. The stabilizer has no control over the ESC.

    • @BigMeanyVids
      @BigMeanyVids 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      As iforce2d said either start with a very light (and hence bouncy) wing or get a trainer plane first to learn fixed wing with. Also, best to learn line of site flying first as it really helps with getting the plane correct before flying it fpv.

    Nice video, How do you rate this for racing. I want to create a racing class in Adelaide, want a cheapish airframe that I can get a group of people to purchase and set up the same specs or close to it for some racing in clubs. looks like it can take a few bumps

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it can take the bumps for sure. I have not done any racing, but I might want something a bit smaller and maybe a little more streamlined wing section too. About trying to convince everyone to buy the same thing, you might find that easier with the bonsai, they are super cheap and heaps of fun - just can't carry an HD camera and don't go too well in wind, are about the only drawbacks.

  • @northpaw80

    You've got your propeller the wrong way around. Not efficient. The writing needs to face the direction of flight.
    The rotation needs to be clock if looking from front and anti if looking from back.

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      At what point in the video is that? I'm sure if you were correct there would have been dozens of comments about this already :) And why would the rotation need to be a certain way? Doesn't it depend on the propeller type? I'm using multirotor props, they are reversed direction on this one.

    • @northpaw80
      @northpaw80 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello. I noticed that from the thumbnail. It might blow air but it's under powered.
      Quad props all push air downwards if the the writing is facing skyward and rotatating correctly.
      Therefore you should mount them differently than if mounting on a quadcopter.

    • @iforce2d
      @iforce2d  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      For a moment I thought you might be right, because sometimes I take the thumbnail pic at completely different times so I might have just put a prop on to take the photo and got it backward. But now that I look at the thumbnail, it looks ok. At least, there is not enough showing to determine that the prop is on backward. I certainly don't see any writing visible (where it should be visible if you were right) and I'm looking at the the full-resolution 2048x1152 pixel image. Even just from the shape and curvature of the blade it looks fine (concave side is toward the rear of the plane).
      www.iforce2d.net/tmp/s800maidenthumb.jpg
      So now I'm starting to wonder if you know what I mean by 'multirotor props'. Just to be clear, I mean props that are made to spin counter-clockwise.

    • @northpaw80
      @northpaw80 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I fly fpv and have a few long range rigs. You look like you know what you're doing so you got a sub from me.
      Yes I checked the thumbnail again the convex part of the prop is in the direction of flight. You can use any quad prop you want in any direction as long as it is scooping air.
      Most people will mount like they would on a quad letters skyward.
      I thought pusher props are supposed be in clock direction if looking forward from the nose of the plane. My 2 pence are pusher props are more efficient than puller props.
