Groundhog: "Challenge accepted! Oh look a hoo-man, time to try this friendship stuff."
We don't pick our pets, they pick us. What an honor for this woman.
Imagine being chosen by a groundhog as family. I’d be honoured. She’s adorable
I wonder if this ground hog wasn't maybe a relative of this family and was reincarnated. Hmm I guess we will never know.
✨💎 Perfectly spoken

Absolutely 💯 %
My thoughts
"Screw this. When I wake up tomorrow I'm going home with the first human I see."
smart move.
Well it seems accurate XD there are few explanations for this groundhog's choices in life XD it does seem the most accurate is that the groundhog wanted to be a pet/companion specifically to this woman XD bless her and her husband for accepting love in all its forms
🤣
I hope it's a good human!!!

Thanks for the laugh haha :D
They're fascinating creatures. On our property, we've seen many generations over the past 5+ decades. They have separate summer and winter burrows. They seem to be most active around dawn and dusk. But, it's quite a treat to catch them sunbathing on a beautiful day.
That's great info, thanks! How long do they live? Can you identify any of them as individuals? Do they let you approach them?
sorry guys i hate those bastards
You are so lucky. That sounds so dang cool.
@@markmack2746 I'm currently on baby watch. The adults have been actively readying their summer burrow. It's so much fun to watch when little ones start venturing out with their mom. They will spend months occupying about a 1/4 acre of my property. Once late Fall sets in, they will relocate to the winter burrow. In between the Summer and Winter burrows, some skunks, about 4 years ago, decided to make their own burrow. As the skunks seem to be more nocturnal, I've only caught some quick glimpses. But, I definitely know they're present. Sometimes, if I get too close to the den with my mower, they emit a strong odor..
The way they eat makes me giggle every time I watch
So adorable.....and I love that you can hear her munching in her snacks! What a compliment to have such a cool little creature love you.
That's one thing that thrill me about them, they just chew with reckless abandon and they never stop chewing

While most people would agree wild animals are not pets, sometimes it's necesary to save their lives.
@A M
Exactly. They set up the perfect home for her. She gets to be free outdoors, yet able to be close to her adoptive parents. Had they of tried to hold her hostage indoors, I’d of had a big issue with that!
This ones family not a pet
You can save a wild animals life without bringing it home as a pet. I'm sorry it's not a fog or cat. It's a groundhog.
@@amybaskall3472 The animals happy, nothing else matters.
@@amybaskall3472 and this video is about a groundhog that didn't want to be "wild". A groundhog that made some connection with this human and refused to be away from this lady. It may have a den under their porch, it also spends time with them, and it seems to only eats veggies they put out. That does not sound like a "pet" nor does it sound "wild", it sounds like a companionship with an animal that chose its human.
I'm glad to know that good hearted people still exists on this earth. Bravo for helping this precious little soul.
At least they're good to animals, if not to other humans.
i love how they still treat her like a wild animal with freedom rather than something they own, shes also the cutest thing ive ever seen
Exactly. They aren't property for people to use or own. And she was blessed with the chance to rescue one and share their lives.
The craziest part to me is she's not enclosed or forced to stay in any way but refuses to leave. crazy. i wonder if they go on vacation and come back if she'd still be there.
But they do own her, what are y'all yapping about

Lol... 😄😄😘🥰😇
She's living her best life. So glad you found her
I can only imagine that this groundhog was someone's "exotic" pet that they eventually abandoned. Wild animals almost never cuddle up to people like that, let alone follow them for help or not know how to do basic things for their species like burrow. She was at the exact right place at the exact right time for that little hog.
it looks young its mom could have died and it just hung around but it being a pet seems likely
That's exactly what I thought. I rehabbed wildlife in Florida before my health failed. I miss my little raccoons 😢
Exactly!
That makes sense. She was lucky to find a new family like that then!
Yes. She was most likely a pet.

She's absolutely adorable. I have watched this many times. And I am quite happy to watch it again.

My guess would be that her mom got killed, probably by traffic, and this little one was lucky someone with a huge heart stopped and saved her from getting run over. This woman is so sweet.
I don't think so, I think she was maintained as a pet and was dumped. This why she is scared of cars and it's not of humans.
I agree with Daniel. I think someone took her in as a little baby and 'released' her when she got bigger, not realizing she had no idea how to care for herself in the wild.
👍👍
It was either separated from its family or a dumped pet because ground hogs live in small family groups and one that young would still be with its family

Love that comment..
It always amazes me how so many wild animals around us have such great potential for this type of intelligence and affection. Like I saw a woman who rescued a european starling and was able to teach it tricks and even how to speak. I never would have known they are capable of that. Just a good reminder to stay humble and kind when dealing with all animals.
How extraordinary! Somehow, that baby was able to sense the good in this lady! I love this so much ❤️
It could also be that this groundhog used to be someone else’s pet at some point and released in the wild. This may be why she was clinging to the nice lady. It’s just nice that people loves animals. I love listening to human- animal relationships. 💕
It was a baby
To LORIE: Yes, that sounds possible. Otherwise it seems almost impossible that an animal encountered in the wild would attach itself to a passer-by like that.
I was thinking the exact same thing.
I was considering brain trauma/head injury. But that she was dropped off seems to make more sense.
Probably at that age she either became lost or her mother was killed. And it was at just the right time to imprint on the next big thing to make her feel safe. But, who knows.
The groundhog probably imprinted on the lady and was like, i adopted you so we in this together. Lol
When a man try’s to rob her he just bursts in with a groundhog sized minigun
When I imprint on some random woman and start following her around, all I get is pepper spray and a restraining order. Maybe next time I should try it while wearing my groundhog costume.
@@daisy9181 Probably not. This animal was a lost baby. It's mother may have been killed, and so it was left to wander. Baby animals don't really develop fear of humans until a certain age; But then again, this baby was found in the middle of the road- so it's possible that the cars screeching by her was traumatizing enough for her to imprint on the human that rescued her from it.
@@Mr.Ekshin lmfao 🤣
I had a co-worker who found an exotic bird in his yard. It bonded with him. He says, it has the personality that crazily is that of a male friend he once had, who had passed away. My co-worker is convinced that the bird is a form of a re-incarnation of that friend.
They look like a mix between a hamster and beaver so cute! 💖
I have never heard it that well said before: that they humanize animals. These little animals they humanize animals. Enough said. I am hooked.

I feel like that's a common tendency with these stray animal adoption videos, but it does sort of make sense. The people who record and eventually share these videos are usually people with an exceptional love for animals. So the threshold for adoption isn't really that high as they already have the facilities and basic knowledge to take care of them.
Well...that's how true, unconditional love goes sometimes!!

Do you include rats in this belief ?
@@thelimey351 why not?
@@offthewalla4717 A rat will come across another wounded rat and will start tearing it apart whilst it's alive - that's why.
@@thelimey351 I'm not sure what your argument is about. Wild animals are just that, wild. All animals react differently in a stressful situation be they tame or wild. Some attack and eat each other, others eat their young, and so on. It's life.
Since that groundhog decided to pursue that woman, I'm positive that animals are much smarter than we give them credit for being. So so adorable.
You just don't see the cases where animals follow the wrong person and get tortured and killed. Just seeing one side and then drawing conclusions is called survivor's bias. It's like "Oh, all of you soldiers survived this battle AND you all prayed to God/ate vegetables/danced before the battle? That means that you survived BECAUSE of it". Not taking into account that most soldiers who died might've done the same thing, but still got shot.

Wild animals stickin' to humans is a sign they need help.
She obviously did need help. Apparently she needed help being picked up and given snuggles!
It's a sign they have been brought up by humans. Nearly all animals learn that humans are the most dangerous creatures they know so they definitely don't seek humans for help unless they have been trained that help is what they'll get from them. Then they are usually killed.
@@chumleyk Being raised by humans isn't the only case. Being desperate is one of the main cases where animals will seek help from humans.

Normally I'd be against interfering with wildlife, but this lil' one is existing outside and obviously needed help.
I agree. I had a squirrel like this when I was young, mother got run over so I raised him. We lived on the second floor of an apt building surrounded by huge oak trees. One limb came very close to our balcony, so I would let him out to run in the tree. Gave him the choice of being free or with us...he always came back at the end of the day. He would go and play on the tree for hours, then come running back inside. Great little squirrel.
My thoughts exactly, that and one rodent won't be missed? They are rodents? Cute little thing...
The important thing to remember is that no one really cares if you’re against it, you aren’t some wildlife authority figure.
@@vf12497439Yes, groundhogs are members of the rodentia order, so rodents. They are classified as large ground squirrels (squirrels & chipmunks also being rodents).

is it weird that one of my biggest pet peeves is people eating sounds, but when it's animals, I LOVE IT!
I hate it when people smack their lips while eating. It’s disgusting
It's the weird breathing noises we make when eating that bothers me lol.
Or when someone is talking and they stop to swallow a mouth full of spit. blah!

You should name your next animal "Peeve." Then you can tell everybody, "This is my pet, Peeve."

I do believe you are correct on that one
Amen!
It's been that way for me!
Probably knows her from a previous incarnation
Last cat I had was from a "cat" house where there were a dozen or more scrawny, scraggly cats. He had to cross a busy street where a week or so later I saw a brother or sister of his flattened to death. "Whitey," about 7 months old, came over to my 3 year old, wound himself around Alex's legs and Alex said, "Kitty!" So we were stuck with him. Never used a litter box. Asked politely to be let out or let in, slept with Alex, lounged purring on the sofa or half on someone's lap. Lived for about 17 years after that. We fixed him, but he still had fights. Was 13 pounds of muscle and great balance. Would come when you called him... Nicest pet we ever had. Would bring me dead lizards and birds. I know he loved us. Respect!
That's so great that they took her in and had an open mind about taking care of her I would do it in a second!!!
Thank God you stopped and helped her. She would have never had made it. Thank you to you and your husband for then adopting her. We rescued a beautiful House Sparrow, that could not be released into the wild. He's our everything. He's our world. I love how you let her be outside but always are with her as family.
Kinda insane how quickly that groundhog made up its mind on what it wanted. There wasn’t a plan B after it met her.
Looks like she was originally a pet that someone couldn’t keep and just released
That would explain why wildlife rehab wasn't successful... They would have TRIED to treat her like wildlife because that's their job, it's usually in the animals' best interest
Was thinking the exact same thing actually. Definately makes more sense, also it didn’t know how to burrow only nest,so that cld be why also. Thy didn’t know what they were in for or how to look after one or train? I’m with you on this. Bloody sad either way and cruel but with a lucky happy ending

Everyone keeps saying she was already domesticated, but I've seen many stories of animals that just didn't have parents. It's natural for any creature to cling on to others that take care of it when they are young. I just believe that is the case, because almost nobody likes to keep Groundhogs. This is literally the first case I've heard of that happening.
I figured she picks and chooses her friends.
My dad had a groundhog as a pet for years. She lived under his deck. They are sweet.
Bless you people for taking this little groundhog in and thank you for sharing the video. We need more of this on TH-cam.
OMG this is so precious 💕 I'm so happy you stopped for this little furry friend 🤗 it does appear he thinks he's just another house pet 😂 so unusual but very very precious ☺️
Thank you for saving him 💕🤗💕
if wild animals ever figured out how easy it would be to get into someone's life and have them take complete care of you then there would be no wild animals.
Good point. People would be adopting elephants, horses, cobras, Lions, Tigers, Bears of ny
@@nosuchthing8 well, this is actually how we got to have dogs..... some wolves once said: "screw this, I get food easier around hoomans."
@@chaosgoettin true that. Domestic cats also.
But there were more comprehesiblen pathways. Dogs were good for hunting, cats for killing mice.
Vice-versa also. I pretended to be hurt and some deer drug me back home and raised me. They named me:
Buck...hahahahah
@@zzshopper9983 Please, see yourself out sir xD xD
If someone had told me this story I wouldn't have believed it. Beautiful, heartwarming.
The groundhog eating the farmers crops in front of his security cameras brought me here lol
Such a beautiful experience and so loving they know when they are loved and cared for back , that’s why she wanted y’all to stay with she is very content ❤️
My Grandmother had a woodchuck she would feed by hand back in the 60’s when I was a kid. Friendly and playful. It would follow me when I hiked in the woods of North Jersey.
That's pretty cool.
How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
@@armybeef68 As my Grandfather would say, about as much as you could, “git wood”….
You had a story book childhood
@@bea.of.ameadow8029 I have many fond memories of growing up.
I’ve got nightmares as well.
I'm thinking some other hoomans raised her till she was old enough to be let go, not realizing she didnt have skills to do her groundhog thing.... then she found this wonderful lady :)
She’s living the DREAM

That's the first thing I thought too! 🦡

I've had 4 of them and they usually attach themselves to one person in the family . This one was domesticated likely previously and was probably attached to a female person . That's how they are .
I love these stories. They make me cry and happy at the same time.😭
Amazing. Good on you for bringing the animal home and looking after it.
I wonder if she was raised by humans and then released in to the wild without much thought?
Yeah...it would seem....but she found a good home
This is the first thoughts struck in my mind, because she not afraid of human and even other domestic animals. Might be her previous experience helped to settle with human and other domestic living beings. God bless her long and healthy life.
Makes sense. Looking for a new human mommy and daddy....
That's a really good thought. I've had wild animals that would become attached to me if injured and needed help, or needed food, but eventually they go back to the wild with little coaxing needed. The fact that she completely bonded to this family and couldn't thrive without them makes me think it's all she knew.
So I don't actually think so because looking at her size, she couldn't have been that old, and groundhogs are not pet animals normally. It's more likely she imprinted on the lady here, possibly because her actual mom had died or she was abandoned.
It's called imprinting. She was a lost baby, and found someone to imprint on. Hope she stays safe from coyotes.
This isn't a baby though - so wouldn't it have been imprinted on someone other than the woman who found her?
This one was almost definitely not wild. She was way too relaxed/acclimated to being around a human to be wild. Probably taken in as a baby then dumped by a cruel bastard
Pat M The woman said it was a baby when she found it.
Lol, u watch too much twilight
@@jaypay8954 i call my 14 year old cat a baby
When an animal chooses you never let it go its destined to be with you .
Very special little life. Hers a busy girl. God Bless you folks for caring enough about other lives.
For some reason, she might have been taken care of as a baby and then released back into the wild without actually thinking that this animal was reliant on humans. I think she really is a pet! ❤️
Ok, but why didn't she do well with the rehabber?
@@justmeprematee groundhog has been socialised to humans for too long, it's told old to develop the survival skills it would need to live a potential happy life in the wild.
Edit: and the rehabbers job is to make it so the animals can return to a natural life in the wild
