    Hi! I made a mistake: the glass is not Sapphire glass but Gorilla glass! Thanks for those of you who pointed this out to me. 'Funny' thing is that I always send the review text to the manufacturer to check the technical details and I got no remark from Polar on this. What does this say about how well they know their products? Bottom line is of course that I made the mistake and that the glass is still scratch free. Enjoy the Outdoors and Stay Safe! Cheers, Gijs

  • @antc5010
    @antc5010 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree with your comments about the Grit X not being the best outdoor watch for weather forecasting, with its lack of barometric data storage. I have a Suunto ABC watch for outdoor adventures that I'm very happy with. No GPS so it provides close to 12 months battery use as long as I don't use the compass too much, and the barometer/altimeter performs accurately. But, the issue with forecasting in mountainous terrain is always going to be an issue no matter the device, in that either the terrain and/or the pressure is going to be varying, so an accurate histogram of barometric pressure will always be problematic and dependant on how often you re-calibrate the watch with a topo map throughout the day. As for GPS, altitude/elevation is the least accurate metric provided out of the x,y,z co-ordinates simply due to the vertical geometries of visible satellites w.r.t. your position. I never engage GPS for this use and Polar are making huge assumptions to think they are reliably using it to calibrate against.

If you want just a watch with a big/bigger screen with focus on outdoor use (not sport use) such as a good reliable compass, good GPS, barometer, weather warnings and also maybe the possibility to see the map/route on the screen of the watch as you hiking what will you recomend? Hello Gijs, I bought the Grit X three weeks ago and what you are reporting about the barometric and the altitude measurement is unfortunately correct. My watch starts a new activity always with the height of the last activity start value. So I was in the mountains last week at 1100 m and the activity started with the hight of my home (180 m). Even worse, the Grit X did not calibrate with the GPS height within a few minutes, as stated in the manual. Maybe the watch is defect? I am not willing to calibrate manually before all new activities. So if a reset to the factory status does not help, I will have to sell the watch. Or do you have any advice for me? I like the other features of the watch a lot.
