    Thanks for the review! Nice and informative as always. The outdoors watch segment is starting to get interesting! I won't be replacing my fenix 6X sapphire anytime soon, but it'll be interesting to see how long polar and coros take to match the level of 3rd party app/watch face support. Also polar continues to cripple their appeal by not offering offline music.

    Thank you for the review, sounds good. The full map, music and payment function will be great, but its Garmin. What is your favourite top 3watches across the players? Garmin Fenix 7, Coros or / and polar? It will be great to have a watch, that could connect to multiple applications, maps ets, like Komot, Trails,marine for kayaking, MTB and more, with full map scale and battery durability. The music function is not very needed, and the pay function is at the end of the list, as for the expedition and outdoor use, you always back up your money and music is a tunes on your phone or player... Will be great to hear your choices. Cheers

    3:46 straight line to the starting point was available earlier watches like Vantage M ;) but the reverse route is the territory of Fenix, I believe ;)

  • @Asthbendriel
    @Asthbendriel 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I love the way it looks and the feature set, but the lack of full mapping is somewhat disappointing for some outdoor sports like MTB. Maybe the zoom in/out that's now included makes it more usable, but I'll wait for your review to confirm that in case you can check MTB like you've done in the past 😁
    It's weird the Grit lineup always had that kind of problem with the HRM, I have a Vantage M2 and I find it quite accurate (for being a wrist-based HRM) sometimes when the watch was new and I was testing the HR and I found sometimes the HR too high for the moment I literally stopped, measured manually (had a bike computer with a timer at first hand) and turned out to be around 3-5 bpm difference, which can actually be a missed beat from my manual reading.

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It could be due to the additional weight of the Grit models which can lead to the watch moving on the wrist (and this is the case with all watches, not just Polar where a heavier watch tends to not get as accurate results). I tend to get better results with their Vantage V/M/Ignite models than the Grits.

    • @Asthbendriel
      @Asthbendriel 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DesFit thank you for the input and it makes a whole lot of sense, the Vantage M2 is around 40% lighter so once held snug it barely moves, guess it's not a good idea for bouncy sports without a chest strap.

    Thank you for great review! But Polar disappoints me more and more. Since introduction of Vantage M and V all Polar watches have almost identical hardware and slightly improved software. The appearance of backlight adjustment in 2021 is a great achievement. No maps, no music and old low resolution display. All new features can be easily added as a software update to Vantage V and M. But Polar refused to continue updating these models for at least year and a half.

    Would you choose a V2 or a GritX Pro? Especially given the new dashboards views and additional features on the GxPro. I’m a cyclist and have a long history of using Polar watches back with the S710 and now the VantageM 1. I more recently started using Garmin Edge 530, when that was introduced. I use the Polar H9 and Garmin cadence sensor for cycling, then keep the watch on for health fitness tracking plus other training where the wrist sensor is sufficient. One reason I haven’t gone full Garmin with their fitness watches is I think Polar Flow and software analysis is superior. Garmin seems to just be an upgraded Strava system.

    Apart from Sapphire crystal and a fancy looking bezel, most of the features seem like a software addition.
    It is hilarious how polar adds some software features and launches a new watch altogether, ofcourse with a slight increase in the cost. The fact that they are porting these features to V2 proves that the additions are software based (Don't need a special h/w).
    I mean, most companies (garmin and coros) do launch a new watch every few years, but none of them are as outrageous as Polar (even Suunto). Does polar honestly expect people to go around for an upgrade with these? I mean, coros packs way more features with each new watch and port most of code to their other watches.

    Another Polar model that will receive updates for 18 months before being dumped for the next new product, yes I’m a bitter ex Vantage V & V650 owner… best thing I ever did was move over to Garmin who continually refine their product and push out updates.

    The huge empty black space around the screen seems excessive. What are they thinking. Let’s make a man sized watch and use our tiny little screen. Outstanding…. I will say the $500 price tag with the Sapphire glass definitely helps it’s case. Hopefully it’s a little brighter of a screen indoors. This is why Garmin charges their crazy prices bc no one makes a solid competitor to me. The tactix delta although expensive is better looking. Bring me the garmin 7 tactix. That’s what I want.

    It's beyond my understanding why they have such a low display/body ratio. Why should I buy a watch with 1.6 inch diametre but with the screen of only 1.1 inch. Learn from Garmin, want a smaller watch choose fenix S, extra large choose fenix X series

    Maybe I'm wrong, but didn't You, Ray, and Dave used to compare products across the field (not just in the same brand) in the last section when talking about the price point? Or it is just my bad memory? As many comments state below these reviews, this watch is more-or-less a Fenix3 equivalent in the Fenix6 price range. It is not about Garmin, I'm sure a similar could be said with Coros models as well. Obviously, all three of you knows this (much better than any of us), but none of you mentioned it. (Ray briefly mentions this on the blog.)
    It almost feels as if Polar forbid you guys to compare the product (pricepoint-wise) with other watches. I'm not "angry" about this or anything, it is just surprising. And if Polar really did ask something like this, it is kind of a bad rep for them in my eye. If this is not a secret (I completely understand if it is) could you tell me, if companies (and which) do usually ask for this kind of things? I'm just simply curious :-)

      Nope, no restrictions on what I can say or cannot say. In fact, I won't work with any company who places any sort of editorial guidelines on content, other than actual embargoed information like upcoming features or products of course. I sometimes make comparisons during product launch videos but I generally leave those for later with in-depth comparison videos. Thanks for asking, Mate. 👍

      @@DesFit Tbh, I would have been really surprised if this is not how you and the others do things. I would have placed a huuge bet on this blindly :-) It was just so surprising (for me) that 3 of 3 didn't mention explicitly, that this watch competes with the F6. It is not criticism by any means, love and respect your (and the others) content. I was just surprised. Anyhow, too much talk wasted on this. I forgot to thank for the review, looking forward to upcoming stuff :-)

    Yet another smart watch designed for fitness obsessed normies who never leave their local area. Is there a smart watch for people like me who travel the world into far-flung, and extremely isolated locations like deserts and alpine regions hundreds and sometimes thousands of kilometres from civilization? Been looking for a smart watch that will load offline topo and satellite maps the same way my handheld Garmin GPS device does...

    If Training Peaks and/or Garmin Connect weren't so awful, I would have gone for a Garmin. But Polar Flow beats those hands down. A watch is nice, but at the end of the day it's just a data collection tool. The real analysis comes on the platform.

    Polar says that give most of the features of the new watch to regular grit X ( not pro) at the end of the year with firmware upgrade. music controls or running test and much more)
    So, whats the reasons to change old model to pro? it is the same watch )
    only new besel with taximeter scale )) or maybe saphire glass. or maybe one day more battery life ? ) its all not serious to change to a new model ))

    • @DesFit
      @DesFit  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you already have a Grit X there may not be compelling reasons to upgrade other than the sapphire glass, additionally, I don't believe the navigation features as well as the elevation data page are coming to the original Grit X, unless I am mistaken.
