How to do AC Refrigerant Recharge Buick LeSabre

    This video goes over how to recharge the AC unit on a 2004 Buick LeSabre Custom with a 3.8 motor. This will be the same process for any 1999-2005 Buick LeSabre. If possible, you're better off having a trusted mechanic or even a certified technician perform the work on your AC cooling system, but if this isn't possible you can try this recharge method. A car's AC unit can be rather expensive to fix considering that the AC recovery and recharge unit can cost around $5000. Most people will choose to run without air-conditioning. The AC system is sealed from the factory with a precise amount of refrigerant, which can change with miles, age and just general wear and tear. A car's AC unit operates on a precise amount of refrigerant. Find a reputable place that you trust to draw it down the AC system (removing all R134a in your car's system) and do the steps that we showed you. All cars take a different amount of pounds/ounces for the AC unit. By doing it this way you'll have the proper amount of refrigerant and won't need any costly gauges or equipment to find out if your car has a leak.

    These are the tools we used or something that’s similar. There are many manufacturers and various prices. It's a good idea to buy the better tool with the best warranty and easiest exchange in case of tool failure.

    Last question: if the new refrigerant holds like it seems, barring no leaks, what caused the system to dump out the freon to begin with?

      In a car, a certain amount of refrigerant is designed to leak a very small amount to protect the compressor seal from drying out. Your car will lose about 2 oz. of refrigerant every year.
      It should need some refrigerant about every 5 or 6 years or more.

      I have a 1991 Buick Lesabre cant find the H &L ports !! it has a large canister with high pressure refrigerant warnings on the passenger firewall which has a valve but the connector wont click on (loose)

    But what if the compressor does not kick on like yours did? Then what do I look for? Thank you

      If the AC compressor doesn’t turn on, possible issues are a blown fuse and/or a relay. Your owner’s manual should be able to tell you where those are located. Poor grounding, frayed wiring, bad clutch coil, or a defective AC pressure sensor switch will also not allow the compressor to engage.

      @@TheAutoTeacher woah that's a lot to check out for me but I will and I'll cross everything off and look you up again if ok. I mean when I try to add the refrigerant the system won't even accept it but the gauge reads zero.

      You must be mistaken. On your AC system, you have a low side port and a high side port . The low side port or the low-pressure service port, is important because it's the point where you connect to recharge the AC refrigerant. Its location varies by vehicle.

      @@TheAutoTeacher thanks. I ended up adding to whatever was already in the system using the 20 ounce can that comes with a hose and an automatic psi checker. A/c is blowing out cold air now in my 2003 LeSabre. Thanks 🙏🏽

      I wouldn't put the sealer in the system. Most of those sealers are only temporary and only work on extremely small leaks if they work at all.
      Most shops won’t even touch a car's AC system if it tests positive for leak sealer for fear of it damaging their equipment.
