    This is a very good video. One tip: when you're getting ready to add refrigerant, loosely hold the hose fitting next to the charging port and use the trigger to deliver a small squirt. When you see refrigerant starting to come out of the fitting, quickly attach it to the port. This procedure flushes air and moisture out of the hose -- and you don't want either of those inside your A/C system.

    • @M4sterT3ch
      @M4sterT3ch 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't listen to anything this shade tree has to say, it's all misinformation. Your trigger method doesn't and won't purge all air/ moisture from the system. This is accomplished by pulling a vacuum on the system for a certain amount of time to pull all the air out and boil off all the moisture. A simple "squirt" method is not the answer. Just wasting your time and further inducing toxic refrigerant into the atmosphere.

    I'm a 54-year-old registered nurse (I don't work on cars) and I watched this video and filled up the refrigerant in my 2004 Saturn Vue. The temperature outside was 100 degrees in humid southwestern Virginia when I took my teenage grandsons to the fair. The AC was so cold in the car we had to turn it off!! It had only blown hot air before this quick fix. Thank you so much!!! You saved me a lot of time and an excessive amount of BS! 😀

      @@chrisfixnot sure why I cannot comment on the main thread but I wanted to ask a question because I'm sure I'm not the first one to run across this but the bottle of AC pro that I purchased does not have a separate temperature gauge to set it only has the low filled a small yellow area and then the red area for the PSI and it goes up to 150 like yours

    This is, by far, the best tutorial on how to recharge your car's A/C. He uses clear, concise language, speaks like a professional, uses perfect panning of camera so you can follow his instructions precisely. He also has a way of making this seem like anyone can do it. I'm feeling confident now. I've watched other videos and felt like calling the nearest auto repair shop for fearing that I would screw it up. I am subscribing to his videos and I feel so lucky to have found this guy! He just saved me $200.00. The shop was going to charge me $230.00 to do this work. Thank you so much for posting this very helpful tutorial!! You are amazing!!

      This is NOT the way to top up air conditioning systems, the vital part of servicing car AC is the procedure of putting the system in a state of vacuum to remove air and moisture, this procedure doesn’t allow for that. These cans should be banned because you don’t know if the system has a leak on it and could release refrigerant into the atmosphere. Do yourselves a favour and just pay someone to do it properly.

    • @Svveet69

      @DrPolarisMD 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@markb4772 Why would you want to vacuum a system with a known leak? To get more air and moisture in ? And please stop these conspiracy theories about refrigerant making holes in ozone layer. Refrigerant has a long chemical formula and is much heavier than air.

    • @markb4772
      @markb4772 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DrPolarisMD Read it properly before commenting!!
      1, I never said to vac a system with a leak, you should pressure test with OFN if you suspect a leak
      2, I never said anything about the ozone layer, so I don't know where the conspiracy theory is? R134a is not ozone depleting anyway, but does contribute to global warming, if you don't believe this then your are mental!!
      I suggest you read up on air conditioning before commenting, i have been a professional vehicle air conditioning engineer for nearly 14 years, so do have somewhat of an understanding of it. If you think that these aerosol cans are a good idea you obviously know jack shit about AC

      arno maas DONT USE THIS. If you use it and you then want to get your ac serviced by a shop you will ruin their ac machine wich costs around 5000dollar. And they might actually make you pay for that. Just get a shop to fill it with fluorescent fluid added and then after its going low again you go to the shop again and they use an uv light to look for traces of the fluorescent fluid and they will find the leak really fast.

      Btw, if I just bought a car and it needed coolant, I'd be back over there in a second.
      Get a battery charger. Clip red to red side, black to the bolt that's right there and not connected to anything else (that's why it's there, as a ground, don't use the black terminal, it can make the process more dangerous.)
      Then, plug it into the wall after those are clipped securely. It should shut off on its own after up to 8 hours or as few as 3.
      Nice to have more than one, too. A portable jump starter one with power plugs is nice if you're not at home.
      You want the 50 amps. 100 amps is for jump starting. Don't do that unless you have to. With less than 50 amps, it'll take forever. That's for smaller things like motorcycles or lawn mowers.
      READ THE INSTRUCTIONS.
      When finished, carefully unplug from wall first, then take the clips off in the right order. Do NOT touch them to each other or anything metal. They WILL spark. You don't want that.

    Just a heads-up, if you buy this AC Pro from Walmart, it comes with a cheaper gauge on it, which does NOT have the temperature adjustment range on it (i.e. the little dial that you can turn). Got one from Amazon that DOES have the better gauge. Both purchased in 2019. The Walmart one seemed to work fine - I just took a screen shot when Chris showed the gauge on-screen for reference. It was hot out, and I went relatively conservative, stopping at 50 psi for my 2012 Subaru Forester. A/C is now cold again!

    Closer to the window, but you should of checked the static pressure fist before Turing the car on to find out if it’s over or under charged

    • @Redtooth75
      @Redtooth75 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Static pressure wont tell you if a system is overcharged and will only tell you if the system is very very low. Static pressure is based in temperature so it wont matter if there is 15 ounces of refrigerant or 10 the static pressure will be the same.

    As far as i know, if you run out of refrigerant it's always because you have a leak somewhere, this gas is not spent anywhere in the system, i've seen 30 year AC's working like the first day with no recharges. This is something a lot of people doesnt know, and every summer they go to the shop to get a refill, and they dont tell him he has a leak, so next summer they can refill it again LOL.

    • @chrisfix
      @chrisfix  9 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      +ComandanteJ Correct. There is a leak as stated. But the leak is so small that it is not worth spending the money to find it and fix it. Since the leak lasts over a year, it is best to just charge the system up.

    • @ComandanteJ
      @ComandanteJ 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      ChrisFix Of course, and in this case it's probably the best thing to do, but what i wrote was more aimed for people who live in countries where those kits are not permitted, so they need to go tho the car shop to get a refill, a lot of the times these people think that it's normal to lose gas, and shady car shops take advantage of that, refilling them once a year before hot weather comes.

    Luckily, most cars activate the a/c compressor during the defrost cycle, or at other times if you have climate control. The biggest problem I've seen with a/c in cars are the ones that get used very little. Without constant circulation of the refrigerant and oils through those lines, the seals can dry up and start to leak. Then, when that person waits for a 95° day, there is no a/c. I run mine all the time, due to climate control, and it holds for years. Impressive to get 42°F air coming out on a 97° day outside.
    As far as icing up, I agree with the low refrigerant problem, and also with blocked flow over the evaporator (dirt, leaves, debris) will cause the coil to freeze up sometimes. They are very hard to clean inside the dash. If you're getting icing up, try running the fan at a higher speed and see if that reduces the ice.
    And always use recirculate in very humid weather, it pulls about twice the amount of humidity from the cabin, due to sending it through the system over and over.

    You should never need to add refrigerant. If you do then that means you have a leak which needs to be fixed first. The sealers don't always work and can do more harm than good. Make sure you don't overcharge your system. If you do, the head pressure will get too high and it will not cool well on hot days. It should cycle on cooler days and at night and during hot days with the fan on high it shouldn't cycle at all. If it does that means it is either under or overcharged. An overcharged a/c will cycle because the high side is getting too hot and undercharged is because the low side is getting too cold too quickly (pressure too low). Don't go by the gauge alone. Use the chart with the pressure vs outside temperature.
    Also a little trick. If the can is getting too cold while charging, soak it in warm water. That will make the R134a come out faster.

      +billybassman21 Thanks for sharing the tips although with that last one I am not sure you want the refrigerant to come out any faster because you will pressurize the low side too much which is not necessarily good.

    Your great at explaining things so simply that even someone like me, who doesn’t know how to work with cars, can figure it out. Thank you so much

    Should ad that if you don't have your a.c. in the on position it will cause a line rupture when you add the a.c. booster...lol..
    Don't ask me how I know this🤣🤣

      JnLighting 1000 - turning on the ac system in your car to the high setting relieves the pressure in the ac line as you are adding refrigerant to the system.

      These cans have cost people thousands. You WILL blow a line,contaminate and get moisture in your system and will wish you never ever tried to go cheap on one of the most expensive to repair items on your car.

      Just did this and pressure gauge went straight to red 😂😂 went straight to the comments and found out about this part to leave the system on blast before continuing
