    I'm wondering if I could still get in without taking any AP, IB or honors classes. There is literally NOTHING like that in my country. You don't get to choose ANYTHING except for when you're junior, you choose if you want to go for the natural sciences or social sciences. Then, you just learn what is in your books. Would the admission officers take that into account?

      @@xxcarefull8046 I think they'll take your country and its curriculum into account. They even see if the school an applicant in the US is applying from has AP or honors classes and what the kids are supposed to do is take advantage of everything offered at their school. Since our schools don't give us such a choice, I think we'll be fine. All we need to do is perform well at schools, engage in extracurriculars and write good essays. Wish you all the best:)

      @@Science_explained Yeah, in my school are only 2 sports club too, so I can't rely on any extracurricular activities there lol. What are you plans then? Mine are some ivy league courses, some of them are free, also I'm gonna volunteer at the animal shelter, and probably play some sport, but I stil think it isn't enough compering to those amercian kids who have unlimited capabilites :((.

    • @Science_explained
      @Science_explained 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@xxcarefull8046 My plans are just to take advantages of any activity I get at my school or at my church. Or even doing tutorials. Find what you are passionate about and spend time doing it. Don't compare yourself to them. We're nowhere close to having the same opportunities but since you apply as an international student, they don't expect you to be as good as the US kids at everything.

    Hey great video. These are some awesome tips. I'm a junior in highschool currently and I've always had my heart set on going to Cornell. I am worried that my school career hasn't been impressive enough, I get really good grades, but I haven't taken any AP classes yet. I have taken a lot of college level classes, but I know those aren't as impressive. I plan on taking AP classes my senior year, but I fear it's too late. Should I still try to apply or is it unrealistic for me to get in

    • @cynthialei
      @cynthialei  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What are you talking about?!? College-level classes are definitely impressive and if you got credit for it even more so. (Cornell most likely won't take them but it's a good indicator that you'll succeed in a tough academic environment like Cornell.) You should definitely apply and I wish you the best of luck! 🍀

    Hello!! I just found this video and wanted to ask (if you're willing to share) which high school you went to. I also live in NY and go to a high ranking public school (Bronx Science). I wonder how the process of applying to Cornell from a distinguished in-state high school is unique. Did you mention specific things about your school in your essays (or elsewhere) or did you just let the school title speak for itself? I'm currently a junior so I'm applying super soon and this whole video is super helpful thank you!!

    • @cynthialei
      @cynthialei  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Ryan! I’m not sure how much of an impact it had. On one hand, my school regularly had a decent amount of T20 acceptances and so I wouldn’t say that it wasn’t advantageous. On the other, being in a “distinguished in-state high school” was NOT the make or break factor in my application. I felt like I had other things that shone in my applications (extracurricular-wise) and I don’t think I even mentioned the school outside demographic data.

    • @cynthialei
      @cynthialei  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, being in a top ranking school does boost your chances, but not in the way you’re employing it! I feel like mentioning the school outside of demographic data is repetitive and will not boost your chances. Think about it, there are a lot of other people in Bronx Science & similar schools. How would you stand out??What does boost your chances are the opportunities, teacher relationships, and activities that you seized while attending Bronx Science!

      @@cynthialei Thank you! Don't worry lmao this definitely makes a lot of sense to me. I asked because people at my school often say "oh Cornell loves this school" and I lowkey had no clue what this practically means. From what you responded it seems that Cornell doesn't care that you went to a high-ranking high school simply because you attended it but because they are aware that these schools provide opportunities for those students seeking to take them. Anyway here's another congrats for being accepted! Cornell seems amazing. Would be so grateful if I had the chance to join you next year 🙏

    Hey there!
    Do I have to apply for financial aid while applying to Cornell or it’s if I get admitted?
    I will be applying as a transfer from a community college in NYC.

    • @cynthialei
      @cynthialei  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Shujayet! I’m not familiar with the transfer application, so take this with a grain of salt. I think you apply for aid before getting in because the aid deadline is before the admissions notification date. I’m pretty sure that when you apply for admission, you indicate that you are applying for financial aid as well. And then you fill out the FAFSA with Cornell’s FAFSA code. When you get in, you’ll receive finaid shortly after.

    Hi! First of all, congrats on getting into Cornell! I have a question about gpa (I live in Canada and we don’t have gpa). Is gpa calculated through all years of high school? I got a b in one class in grade 9 (during the pandemic I kinda missed an important due date for the class so I got a b lol) but every other class I’m like a 98-100% (for each course the top mark is 100%, you can’t go any higher). Would getting that b affect my chances a lot and also my gpa?
