    Exceptionally nice. Not everyones choice of colour, but it has understated class. Appears to drive very well. A decent Shadow is a lovely thing.

      jjeffery worboys I think the colour is amazing! Tastes / fashion is cyclical after all- the last few years have seen a massive trend towards rose gold and copper, this could pass as a blend of the two. Although I have to admit to having a soft spot for the two tone cars in silvers and blue or burgundy.

    This is what I call a real car! 0-60 ? Who cares? You can only drive 20MPH in London anyway. Comfort and Safety is what we need on the road not Speed! 60’s is the best era for car industry.

    Is the colour 'Nutmeg'? Originally a Corniche colour available at extra cost on the Shadow II.
    I took delivery of a new Nutmeg 1978 S Registered tax free Australian specification Shadow II with brown piping. Had it for 12 months in the UK before 5 months youth hostelling around Europe prior to shipping home to Sydney... Saved 92.85% import duty and sales tax after 15 months use and possession. 6,000 Aussies indulged that year in half priced cars from Mercs, BMWs, Jags, Ferraris plus the occasional Citroen or Peugeot. It was the last year of tax free cars to Australia.
    It was a hoot picking up hitchhikers - some would change their destination just to have a longer journey in the Roller. Many thought it funny I was staying in youth hostels. I used to hide the car away from the hostel...
    It could waft along at a very sprightly pace with the 6.75 litre engine, rack and pinion steering and quite good dynamics for such a large 'Conveyance'.
    Interesting that it was not as reliable or comfortable as my Citroen CX Prestige...

    Wasn't there a legend saying you can hear just the dashboard clock in RR? There is in fact still the nice V8 rumble though made decently low, a pleasant surprise:-)

    Love the Silver Shadow and have been thinking about buying one. It's actually a bit noisier than I would have thought. Here in Australia I once owned a 1983 Holden Commodore SL/E which was the top of the range fitted with a factory original V8. They were actually closely related to the Vauxhall Carlton/Opel Senator but made in Australia, beefed up and fitted with a big Holden V8. If I close my eyes and just listen, your Rolls Royce sounds exactly like my old Commodore! Probably sacrilegious to compare a RR to a Holden but the honest truth.

    Much nicer than the vulgar, blingy, crap “Rolls Royce” make now. I’d have this over one of the modern ones any day: refined, elegant, understated good taste.

      They are quite practical. Well built and solid, lots of space for people and luggage and they just keep going. I've had a 1965 Silver Cloud III for 39 years and had one breakdown in it. It always starts first time and at 65 I don't suppose I will ever have another car. It has also appreciated in value.

      Retro Classic Car you know, I have never been in Britain but I was in Ireland. It has same situation. Everywhere especially in touristic roads. You must pass the bus that appear to you and sometimes drive to peaky bush near roads, scratching your car.
      I like British island and culture but it's strange. Especially for country that produces not small Range Rover and most biggest sedan- Rolls Royce.
      For me- it's riddle. But ok

    • @mscott3918
      @mscott3918 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thundercracker2339 Most of our roads existed before cars were even invented. Most roads like this follow historic routes. We have a lot of roads that were originally built by the Romans!
