- In this video, we take a look at how to level Gaige the Mechromancer during normal mode in Borderlands 2. We go over how to level Gaige, the skills to spec into, bosses to farm for xp and items, good gear to use while leveling, and general progression of the story. We show off the final normal mode build at level 30 at the end of the video.
This is part one of a series designed to take Gaige to OP10, the maximum level after the release of the Fight For Sanctuary DLC.

Right AFTER you turn in the quest where you beat Wilhelm but BEFORE you put in the power core, you can go to Sanctuary and pick up some quests. One of them," The Good, the Bad, and the Mordecai", gives access to farming to a really good AR (Veruc) and one of the best snipers/guns (Lyuda) in the game. Furthermore, turning in the quest itself gives a relic that boosts Exp gain (Moxxis Endowment), which in turn helps with farming Mutated Varkids.

You can easily farm Mobley and Gettle (Veruc and Lyuda) by entering the dust from the prison area, picking up a car and driving it up the wall beside the bandit car spawn place. If you exit the car while mid air you're likely gonna land on a rock path that takes you right to the back of the church where Mobley spawns. Also, they can be farmed multiple times over a single playthrough as the dust leveling scales multiple times over normal mode. As far as im aware they scale as the start of the 'Where Angels Fear to Thread' mission and at the start of 'Talon of God', so if you get a corrosive Lyuda before fighting the Bunker the fight should be a bit easier, as long as you can manage ammo or you're playing Salvador.
Also, picking up the mission 'In Memorian' from Lilith after finishing 'Hunting the Firehawk' and completing it allows you to farm Boll for a Fastball grenade which can be a good alternative to the Contraband Skyrocket if you don't get it at the start of the game. The fastball is a hard to use grenade as you have to aim exactly at an enemy to deal damage, however it can one shot most enemies up to level 20+. For normal mode a shock or explosive variant would be optimal as there are not many enemies that resist shock damage and explosive works well against everything. When using the Fastball, think of it as if it were a tomahawk or throwing knife from Call of Duty, but not affected by gravity - if it hits an enemy, the enemy dies.

Little tip: when u start a level 30 character, the game gives u some gear & money which is ok but not great, go to Arrid Badlands
go through the door to Boneyard & drop down into the pipe, the secret chest here has lv30 gear. I got good shields, class mods & launchers.

No, the dlc does not locks up something, just some awesome guns, what you might need if you want to clear UVHM, but i think it's possible without the dlc.
@@leventeperge914 i have 3 charracters lvl 72 and farmed all the items they need for their build so yeah it is definitly possible without the lilith dlc (i have every dlc except this one)

You car farm Knuckle Dragger for a legendary handgun called the Hornet

24:00 farming tip
on the left of the bounty board you can climb and have a red chest behind the house, going even more left leads you to a loader named bone head 2.0 that drops the boneshredder (similar to slagga)
going right from there is a shack with a normal chest and some regular boxes, open them all cuz theres a chance for loot midgets, going forward past the house with the electric blockade on it there is a broken water tower, climb it and paralel to it is a fuse you can shoot,
you can go back to the electric fence to take another red chest
going forward to saturn you can jump on the box, then on the grey trash box and then jump on the pole near the house, ending on top of the house with a red chest.
You can save quit and repeat, takes about 5 mins
and you end up with 3 red chests, boneshredder (you can get any element), and a chance for loot midgets and tubby/chubby enemies, overall i think one of the best farms.

Great starter build. I like how you have set up the expectations on Gaige's nuances that will become more important at higher levels. It would be good to see a short series on all characters for builds with the new level cap. Where is the best places to put the extra skill points???

You don't really need them for normal and tvhm, but we're going to go into all the story DLCs in UVHM

You can also go into lynchwood before you start the last clan wars quest, then pick up the quest and fast travel to lynchwood. Then you can go back to the dust by the train and you can save quit farm either a slagga or a Maggie

The DLC in normal mode is level scaled in such a way that allows you to easily reach level 40 before reaching TVHM. It kinda breaks the leveling. Normal mode ends at level 30. TVHM starts at level 30-35. In normal, the Pirate and Torgue campaigns scale to level 15 or 30, and the Big Game Hunt and Dragon Keep campaigns can scale to level 30-35. The Fight for Sanctuary can scale to level 30-38. This is useful for late game normal mode if you just wanna speed through that second play through.

This is not just a great Gaige guide, but an excellent outline for any character on how to level up efficiently. My first playthrough of BL2 must have taken 50 hours. Now? Not even a third of that.

2:10 the handsome collection does not have the fight for sanctuary dlc u have to buy that unless u got borderlands the legendary edition that will have all dlcs and all borderlands 1, 2 and pre sequel
Tip I didn't find in the comments yet: while farming for the Slagga, look for a cardboard box on the platform on the Zaford side, roughly between the two dumpsters. If the box spawns there (randomized 1/5 locations), it will always contain a Gwen's Head, a pretty good blue pistol which can also spawn as corrosive. I suggest checking again every time you save&quit / continue for another attempt at the Slagga (or leveling to 21), even if you've already found one you're happy with, because the money you get for selling them can help offset buying ammo during farming. Speaking of which - the chest underneath the Zaford platform can also contain some valuable goodies (to sell)!

Thanks for the guide! I would add that you should farm a Lobbed Bonus Package from Boom Bewm, which is far superior to the skyrocket, which you only need to save for specific uses. Also, I wouldn't give up farming the Unkempt Harold in favor of the Lascoux's that spawn in the puddle in Frostburn Canyon. In most, if not all cases, the Unkempt will do more damage. Lastly, it's probably worth it to farm Knuckledragger for a Hornet at the start of the game.

Just wanted to say thanks for this guide. Recently picked up the handsome collection on PC, may even get it on switch and this has really sped up my playthrough to get back to the good part.
Any suggestions on integrating DLCs throughout as either a substitute for mutated varkid farming or to grab good gear on any of these playthroughs (normal, TVHM, or UVHM)?
I also want to mention something about class modes. If you go to Scarlett DLC, meet scarlett herself, comeback to Oasis, you can take side-mission "Grendel". The mob Grendel could be hard, but as long as you have enough stacks, should be ok. Upon completing this quest goes "read only" farm, because a quest reward for this mission are two to choose blue class modes. This farm could be more effective in TVHM and probably UVHM, if you still don't have legendary class mode. On TVHM class modes will give +5 and +4 points on skills
This guide is fantastic and I appreciate you taking the time to put this together. I personally hate Gaige and her playstyle so I'm looking forward to the other character guides.
She's pretty easy to hate so I can't blame you. Other guides will come out slowly and even more slowly after BL3 launches but I have every intention of finishing this series.

I do have a few of tips for the guide.
This is down to personal preference, but I like to go into the "close enough" skill after getting anarchy. It mitigates the lost ammo when missing (either due to just missing shots or because of anarchy itself) and the damage of anarchy negates the damage loss after about 35 stacks. Also if you have a weapon that already richotets/"bounces" then the 50% debuff isn't applied and you just get a straight buff to that weapon as the bullets will now auto target enemies instead of having to line up shots.
Since you are assuming all dlc, that means that the player will also have access to the creature slaughter dome in the wildlife preservation. Finishing all 5 quests in that area rewards miss moxxies creamer, which is an incredibly powerful rocket launcher that also heals for a small portion of thr damage done. It also has a bit of a quirk with the initial rocket exploding and splitting into two during its flight, if you aim it right you can hit an enemy with all three rockets at one time. At around this point you mention that we can get a new fight for your life launcher after a mission that comes up just after this, but I'm pretty sure the creamer would be far more powerful if used right.
There is also the heart breaker, ruby, and the hail. They are all moxxi weapons which all heal for a percentage of damage. The heart breaker is an amazing shotgun (though it is fire only) and I would recommend read only farming for perfect parts. I would also recommend farming for a Slag ruby as well. The hail is a weapon that had its bullets split up mid air and bounce and is mostly good when you use the close enough skill as I described earlier.

Been playing her for the first time now. I have found that Amp shields work pretty good on her once you have Blood Soaked shields to 5 since every kill it maxes out and you get bonus damage on the next shot, which sometimes allows single shot kills, repeating the process. But my second choice is high turtles. I try and keep both, but if I'm in the anarchy I would never use the novas since you will usually not have much health when your shields are gone.
Personally I don't use amp shield that much but I can see how they'd be a good option. I think she's just good with shields in general.
PLEASE come out with part 2! You've made my life so easy, but now I'm moving on

I find farming for lyuda rlly good pre level 30 too, the 2 bosses gettle and the other guy seemed to scale with the story level too

A good option since the patch is to farm for a fastball, either explosive or fire for normal mode (always preferred as explosive) from the in memoriam mission which makes the assassin boll available to farm. It becomes available from lillith as soon as she's back in sanctuary. It takes out most enemies in one hit, two hits for mini bosses and tougher enemies like badasses. Its mainly useful for single enemies as it acts like it says, a fastball in baseball, so having a crowd control grenade like a fire burst or an electric burst grenade is always a good thing to keep in the back

I prefer to do hunting the fire hawk and then doing in memoriam so I can farm a fast ball and unkempt harold
So I picked up the quest items for the varkids before level 26. What's a good alternative for training besides pushing through the story
I really like your video, very informative. The only thing I would add is that the tidal wave is actually pretty great on gaige and is kind of a hidden gem weapon. It has some cool interactions with her ricochet stuff and works well with anarchy since it hits hard and you probably arent getting crits with it anyways. Also anarchy doesnt really mess with the spread pattern much. People think its kind of a meme weapon and for the most part it is but on gaige i think its actually pretty solid.
Never tried the Tidal wave but I don't doubt it's usefulness on Gaige. Unfortunately it's a choice between that and a lady fist and the lady fist is arguably the strongest weapon in the game

For a corrosive weapon you can farm the Hornet, a fairly good unique corrosive pistol, at any point from Knuckledragger in Windshear wastes. Just fast travel to Lyersburg, head to Windshear Waste, kill her, then save and reload. Rinse and repeat until you get a version you want. The gun should level to you, but the boss stays at level 1 so she's an easy kill. Same goes for Unkempt Harold and other Legendary weapons, they level to the player on drop so you can return to farm stronger versions as you level.
There is an easy way to kill Saturn, if you stand on the right side of the gate right before you go in the giant area the bot can jump down to, you can shoot from cover and not one thing will hit you. It eats a lot of ammo, but that is no problem because there is a machine near that spot

Great video lots of important information in this guide. Would love to see what you have to say about the other vaults hunters. As much as i like gaige in my opinion her skill trees i find to be a bit disjointed.
I plan to do guides for everyone in time. I think her skill tree is one of the worst designed in the franchise tbh, but she's definitely unique.
As someone that enjoys Mechromancer and claims it as my favorite class, I am so happy to have found your video series on leveling her. However, one quick thing I'd like to point out is that there is likely something more needed to be explained when farming the Hodunks for a Slagga. I dunno if I just lingered too long in the Dust after my second kill, or if I did something improper that I have no clue like claiming the chest under the Dust station, but they seem to not wanna spawn after I farmed them the first time. Specifically, the order of events are:
I killed the Hodunks and turned in the quest, no Slagga drop first try. I watched more of the video and heard a caravan, so I went to kill the guard and loot them. I then realized there was a chest under the Dust station, so I looted that. I then travelled to Lynchwood and travelled back to the Dust as fast as I could. Only the main boss of the Hodunks spawned when I returned, so I killed him quickly with my shotgun and Deathtrap, still no drop. I go back to Lynchwood and then back to the Dust for a second farm/third kill, and none of the Hodunks spawn.
To note, I like doing side quests before story quests, so unless specifically mentioned to save for later in your video, I've been doing all the side quests I can, while still doing the recommended quests first so I'm not too over-level. By the time I turned in the quest for the Clan War, I was close to reaching level 21. Also, I found that save/quitting while by the train station will make the entire Hodunk group respawn once I load back in. I am also on Console in case that changes anything.
Just in case this needs to be cleared up for anyone else trying to play as Mechromancer or anyone needing to farm the Slagga!
Thank you for your experience explaining these unforeseen. Events very helpful. I don’t think he was very thorough on this farm, kind of seemed to fast or he left out some 411. Even my son who has ran it numerous times ( aka beat the game ) said it wasn’t to guiding .
Don't hand in the quest before having a slagga.

That was my goal with this. I wanted a method that every character can do to level up quickly because I'm not going to be able to get all six characters done before BL3, so this is the next best thing. Like you said, the only things that will change are skill points and gear. UVHM will probably be where we see the most divergence between characters.

Gaige is my fave! I would sugest a shotgun with one 'extra' round in the magazine (which will be removed thanks to her skill). This means you not only build stacks very quickly, but that you CANNOT accidentally reload. This is more of an issue on consoles where you can't rebind controls.
Jakobs shotguns are your best friends (other than deathtrap)!

great video, i thought about playing gaige, and with your lvling guide, it should be no problem even if i take the lvl 30 version,but i have a few questions:1. could you maybe show some side areas and how to reach them when we have to lvl there etc., for example, it took me way too long to find the caustic caverns because i thought i had to jump in the crater, and, well, that sadly doesnt work, even from different heights or angles...? 2. do you recommend any bosses/missions who are worth farming in normal mode, as an example, the warrior for the conference call or bunker for the sham?When i start with the lvl 30 version, what gear should i keep, its mostly green rarity, and thanks to my other characters, i could get better things?
I think when you start a level 30 character, they will always have the same gear. For example, once level 30 Gaige will always start with the same gear as another level 30 Gaige but it will be different from a level 30 Sal. She starts with a Coach gun which I recommend keeping as it's good for stack building. Also keep the contraband sky rocket and the fire lady fist. I would recommend doing the Uncle Teddy for a non-fire lady fist to use against warrior, and you can use the fire one on non-armored enemies. Any other starting gear you can keep or sell if you want. I'll try to go over my thoughts on this stuff in the tvhm video.
I think the Caustic Caverns was the only place we visited in this video that didn't have a quest waypoint going through it and I tried to show it off. You actually can jump down there but you have to get past a bunch of bandits before you get to a point you can jump from. The varkid farming will be done quite often in normal mode and tvhm because the caustic caverns scales to the story level unlike most areas in the game. I think the farms in this video should be good enough for leveling/items. I feel like anything else is a bit overkill for trying to get through normal mode quickly, but you're more than welcome to farm whatever guns or items you like 😀
Idk if it still works but on both sides don't kill either clan entirely focus on the leaders choose 1 leader first then get the Maggie or the other item that u want and are happy with the parts then save and quit and do the other side (I can't really explain it well sorry for that)
Two things I'd add... getting the the rubi and picking up the fibber, after getting fibber take off cooking up trouble and pick up close enough.
If anyone sees this and is playing salvadore, you can gunzerk a ladyfist and a sniper to get massive crits, very helpful!
Can't wait to see the next 2 vids on this. For me, lvling was kind of a shock after the latest dlc. I could be wrong, but it feels like they increased both mobs and bosses level caps toward late game. I used to farm Bunker till level 30 for exp and for the bitch/sham. Then, I'd continue on to The Warrior and farm him till 40-43. Partly for the exp, but mostly for the conference call. Also, the loot drop rate seems way less post new dlc and I think that's because both Uranus and Casius have the potential to drop 4-5 legendaries in one fight. One problem I do have with Gaige is that most of my go to weapons for other characters are utter crap in her hands. For example, the Bitch in Maya's hands will tear up Bunker in no time. However, with Gaige I ended up using a Badaboom. Not a bad thing except that rockets are way more expensive and you get way less than other ammo. Which means having to buy ammo more often.
I don't think they've changed anything with drop rates in the base game, instead they gave us a DLC with some pretty generous bosses. Level caps are definitely higher going from level 72 to level 80 and from OP8 to OP10, so enemies will be at level 90-92. Gaige can be pretty unique with her weapon set because of anarchy and close enough. Things like the Fibber or the Hail become really strong on her. Even with 150 stacks of Anarchy you can still use most weapons. It may just take some time getting used to her because she plays so differently.
In normal mode I usually I typically spend the majority of it putting points into the Best Friends Forever tree. I also only put 1 point into cooking up trouble since the skill mostly works as a way to heal you between fights. I've rarely been able to keep the skill active while fighting since you have to have a full magazine. Anarchy isn't really needed in normal mode as Death Trap really works wonders in this mode. I usually respect into late in normal more or before going to true vault hunter mode. Be aware if you've never played Gaige that Death Trap potency drastically reduces as you move up in modes. By UVHM think of him as a support option and a distraction.
The left tree is definitely viable for normal, but because anarchy is only one point I still think it's worth taking. The only problem is you won't be able to get discord. Also with cooking up trouble, if you're using a jakobs shotgun & have smaller lighter faster, you will heal whenever you're not shooting because your magazine will always be full

I think you should have included the bee shield because it with the unkempt is a guarentee one shot all normal enemies. One mag of a harold with the bee kills bunker.

The fibber and her skill “close enough” is essentially turning the difficulty to 0 if any of you are having trouble, it’s a very good combo and really fun.
And i do want to add that for bosses like the warrior and stuff, you don’t need the skill, the fibber is really good on it’s own. Just has a big learning curve in how it fires. Her skill makes it easier to use against other enemies.
While farming Boom and Bewm, don't forget to always check the red chest under the elevator to get to them...

So I actually started a Gaige playthrough a couple of days ago and as much as I love the starter grenade you can get with the pass, if like me you are lucky enough to get the legendary grenade from Boom on your second try then please feel free to use that for a while instead as it will clear out anything that you're having difficulties with for a good while and it is so much fun to both use and watch.
The bp from Boom Bewm is fun, but the nice thing about the sky rocket is that it will scale to your level no matter what. If you do decide to use the bp, I'd recommend still keeping the sky rocket
@@agentlomax Oh I have there is no way I'm ever selling an item which sells for exactly $69 XD. I'm just saying that the bp is more fun and better for the early game where your levels aren't as high.
I also somehow got legendary thunder fists from Flynn first try so I swept through early game.
For bunker i like the shock thing with a shock shotgun or assault rifle. But thats for fun
For efficiency i would stay with your build. But get a boneshredder
I think if u just speedrun the game and then farm the warrior might be the best way to lvl up ? Can someone tell if im wrong pls
I like farming a nukem. Then farm saturn. For THE HIVE. It helps with loader. And other loaders
