Something that confuses me is that when I went to Vietnam a few years ago from Thailand (have Thai wife) we needed a "letter of invitation" to enter. It was said that we couldn't just go to Vietnam. We had to be invited to enter Vietnam. We went to the embassy in Bangkok and submitted our passports and picked up the next day. How does that square with boarder runs?
I am slow traveler exclusively in SE Asia. I love Vietnam. My vision when I’m finished slow traveling is to find a Vietnamese girlfriend, settle there, and have a wonderful rest of my life. Vietnam is my favorite
Depends upon interests and activities of an area and personal connections. Range from 2 months to 9 months per country. I return to countries as well. I love this lifestyle

Here is an example guest star video: th-cam.com/video/ySM_2jAC4v4/w-d-xo.html Your interview could be just your voice or we could do a zoom call showing your face. If you would like to be a guest star and share your story please leave a personal message here: vagabondbuddha.com/contact/ Thank you for your comment. The detail of your comment makes this real for people. If you have a business, service, or TH-cam channel, you could share that on the interview. Best, Dan
i agree, Vietnam is the greatest. If you are interested in having a Vietnamese girlfriend, the easiest and most reliable way is to have someone else introduce you to one or her friends. This can avoid avoid scams. Most Vietnamese women are very loving and very loyal. But a word of warning: never cross a Vietnamese woman or you will soon know why the Trung Sisters led their country against the Chinese invaders. My Vietnamese wife and I have been happily married for 25 years with a teenage daughter. Good luck and enjoy life! Ralph Nhatrang
I visited that city in 2020 right before Covid, I liked it, nice beaches.. it is a Russian tourist destination and even a lot of signs are posted in Russian
Before Covid a lot of restaurants accommodated Russian and Ukrainian tourists. The restaurants have the menu in Russian that the Ukrainian can read, so people thought that they were all Russian. After Covid and then the invasion of Russia to Ukraine, Russian tourists don't go to Nha Trang Vietnam anymore, they go to Thailand instead.
..Cam Ranh is about 30 kl south. The Russians were there briefly many years ago like 40yrs. There was a large Russian and Ukrainian community in Nth Nha Trang but it's smaller now. Yrs ago there was a great Russian restaurant called "Check Point" it was a great night out. They had many wonderful photos of the Soviet Navy often interacting with the US miltary and after a few vodkas they had many Soviet uniforms that you could put on and take photos, the jackets covered with medals and those caps they had. The girls just loved to dress up...fun. the Russians are cool people and guess what they are a lot like me and you.
I'm in Nha Trang right now for the first time in almost a decade. It has grown a lot since I first visited here over fifteen years ago. I usually go to Saigon each year but Nah Trang makes a nice change of pace. I'm in the tourist area where you shot the high rises near the beach. Too many tourist for my liking. Your apartment building isn't that far away and I might walk there to check out the area. I love Vietnamese food and have no craving for western cuisine. Definitely helps with the budget. I can get a 450mil bottle of Saigon white at one of the local restaurants for 12K dong. Insanely cheap! I think the Saigon night life has more to offer but it depends on indiividual prioritiies I guess.
First time I heard of Nha Trang was today. My student said he was going there with his family next Tuesday. Then low and behold this video comes up in my TH-cam feed. Looks like the writing is on the wall. Seems like a wonderful place. Love the vid!!
Good to view your video to bring back the old memories, I spent 4 years in Nha Trang to study Marine Science (1974-1978) after my high school year in Da Lat. Then Phan Thiet as a member of technical staff in charge of fishery industry, left Viet Nam in 1979 to Singapore and in California in mid 1980. Graduated with a degree in computer and entered the high tech industries a few years later in Silicon Valley. Many years in the industry and travelling around the globe and forgetting about Viet Nam. I may visit Nha Trang, Da Lat, Sai Gon, ...my childhood memories in the future.
Thank you for another valuable information and video. We are now narrow down to two beach cities to retire in Nha Trang or Da Nang. The others two are closed to the list are Hai Phong and Can Tho. Thank you again to you two wonderful folks. Happy New Year 2024.
Hai Pong can be become quiet cold during winter time. Because on lack of tourism the commen people in the city are likely to be curious about foreigners.
Thank you Dan! This is yet another jam packed informational and visually stunning videos. Nha Trang looks amazing and remarkably affordable. I rather enjoy living on the cheap, so ALL of your content is wonderful and I just became a member of your content and am starting to read through and watch your content packed information. Thank you for taking so much time to share this!
I was born in Nha Trang but I recommend Da Nang instead. Nha Trang is for tourist or short term stay, 1-2 weeks. Da Nang is for long term and more relax and the local people are very nice.
The BMW motorcycle 🏍 restaurant had such a cool design and style. The architecture as you were driving around was very interesting. Looked like a mix from the 20s, 40s, 50s, etc, through very modern almost Bauhouse.🎥👍
Beautiful video guys, I get super excited every time you release a new video. I'm currently in Thailand and looking to come to Vietnam, especially after seeing those mud baths! I'm Seeking clean air, and good swimming beaches, Would you say Da Nang or Nha Trang to start? I love Vietnamese food so no need for Western food options and I walk everywhere. I haven't seen pools mentioned in the apartments and was wondering if that's a thing in Vietnam as I swim daily. Thanks again for the wonderful information you provide, always a pleasure to see Qiang smiling and enjoying your travels.
You have some pretty informative videos with real life stats. When we retire, for sure we will come stay in Vietnam, at the very least as long term tourists. My wifes Thai and we have a home in Chiangmai Thailand and maybe Vietnam will be a place we go when the Burning Season happens. I'm 61, and retiring now or in a few years, really won't make a difference other than we will not be living in southern california anymore, which we love so we will probably put it off as long as possible. WE are in a pretty good position reguardless because we own both our homes outright. Never thought I'd be in this position, but by sheer luck, here we are and all this info is very helpful. We plan to rent our home out for at least a year because while I've been to thailand over 30 times, it was always for vacation. I know there's a big difference between vacation and living. I've never been in thailand where $ was an issue. Our budget while renting is pretty high since our housing cost is about $800 usd for association fees in our village in Chiangmai. Houses in our area like ours Rent for around $4k per month. Our house was built in 1956 and the one across the street with the exact floor plan just sold for $1.2 million usd. Not braging at all, just showing what the reality of housing costs are in the USA, specifically southern california. Our house in Thailand is 7 years old and the house in the USA is 1600 sq ft, while the Chiangmai house is 2500 sq ft and the Chiangmai house is worth about $300k usd. A realitor recently told me I could rent it out for $1000usd. Politics aside, the only reason we will retire in asia is 100% cost. Best thing for us would be to keep the US house and just bounce around the world, but we just don't have that kind of savings. Its super safe in asia, but there are areas where the usa is much safer and thats the roads. I can and do ride my bicycle to the beach which is 8 miles away with zero danger. Once there, I can ride in a big bike path if I want to go fast on the street, or just cruise on the beach path 10 miles one way, and 6 miles the other. Very hard to find a place like that in any city in asia. Cost though...lol There are always plus and minus issues. I watch a lot of youtubes from expats and they never mention that. If it weren't for that we would already have peeled the bandaid and moved. Oh, another thing, Taking my wife to the snow this week. An hour and a half drive. We live in the only place you can enjoy weather in the 70s and then just drive to the snow in a couple hours. Rarely do it, but its an option. Thanks for the video
Love your presentation style: but you have overlooked 4 key expenses(according to your orbited budget) 1. Medical (medicine , dr visits and insurance) 2. Visa costs….including border runs by any method . 3. Streaming costs. 4. Entertainment including gym
Nice video Dan. For some of us who have known you on you tube a long time, have you considered creating another channel which is more vlog orientated? Some us have already made a retirement decision so we don't need all the retirement info, but would like to see the two of you just vlogging as you travel to different places. The costs and such are interesting though.
Not far from that CCCP coffee place you were at is a Rainforest Coffee that is easily the most unusual place I've ever been for coffee. You gotta check it out.
Thanks for that. My biggest expense, after rent, is beer. Lol! So that’s really good to know. In Thailand right now, heading to Vietnam February. Thanks again for the heads up!
Almost same video as Da Nang and Hoi An, so given costs are pretty much the same the question is whether Nha Trang is the best of the three? Subjective and frankly only way one could decide is visit all three and throw in Dalat as its close to Nha Trang. Great job!
I appreciate your videos and the information you provide. Maybe think about checking with the locals to improve your pronunciation of the common native words you use frequently in your videos. The Vietnamese currency, 'dong', and the name of your current city, 'Nha Trang', are a couple examples from this video. Locals are generally very happy to help a foreigner genuinely interested in learning a little of their language.

Well said, no need to recreate the previous life and the facilities. I have been a victim of this after leaving China in 2018. At one stage, I cried in front of my wife that I needed to go back to my home which we already left forever. Accepting new life experiences is key, no doubt.
You are one of the handful USA/ canadian vloggers who's very realistic about life and retirement overseas. Other honestly they don't know what they talking about. Luxury rentals and all kinds of upscale life style which average retirement benefits can't cover at all.. I don't how to say it.. I recommend most them to watch your videos.. and Filipina pea videos too
Couple questions Dan, As a subscriber, where do I find your information on your process to find cheap rentals for accommodation in places you stay? Also in several videos you state that you use a water filter for your drinking water. What filter do you use and how portable is it? Thanks for all the work you do.

Thanks dan, sorry for the redundancy. I watch your videos with a firestick and a app that strips out youtube commercials, the downside is I miss any linked videos you might share on your videos (the one's in a box on screen) and I can't read your links unless i fire up the computer, and I am not home a lot. I appreciate you taking the time. I hope all is well! @@VagabondAwake
I am going to Vietnam for my dental work with my friend, he is getting implant there($600-700USD in average per tooth) VS $3500 in the US. We have already done our research such as talking to people already had their dental treatment done before us or hygiene condition of the dentist's office, equipment and everything else surprisingly, it's pretty much like in the US so, we are leaving at the end of February.
Dan great video! Nha Trang a great city. Doc Let Beach and Diep Son Island are great day trips from Nha Trang. My wife and I love that whole Van Phong Bay region and that is where we like to retire to. Are you going to be staying in Nha Trang for a while? Thank you Capt. Phil
Hi Dan, have you considered composing a video for American seniors who don’t want to apply for any SE Asia retirement visa but would like to retire in SE Asia on a tourist visa? A hassle-free how to guide for American who hops around SE Asia for retirement purpose.

1,200USD = 29,000,000VND Apartment rental: 9,000,000 VND The couple spends 20,000,000 VND/month. If you cook for yourself, you can save 5,000,000 VND. But if you always eat at restaurants, it's not enough
Hello.. I have to stay 3 minutes into your video---because you also CAN cook at home if you live in an apartment/condo with a kitchen and the best with a tropical climate like in Vietnam or other parts of Southeast Asia it is very easy to grow in a pot your balcony different herbs and vegetables / herbs is the easiest because it grows quickly. These herb seeds can be ordered super cheap online. Jonas from Sweden lives in Rayong Thailand
Must say after following your posts for a few months now on you and your wife's posts, that it is surprisingly good of you 2 to budget living expenses for expats and pensioners living abroad. I myself live in Thailand on 60,000 baht a month = 1,700 USD and now, after about 2 years and more than 20 house viewings, have found a beach apartment 42 sqm with kitchen balcony view pool/beach and from inside panoramic sea view/ the horizon / moved into the city Ban Chang Rayong Thailand in this apartment CLIFF WIEW 1 CONDONIUM 1 month ago ---7000 baht / month or 196 USD / month . Before this, I spent almost 2 years in Thailand between 15,000 - 20,000 baht / month in rent for my accommodation. I am a single man, 46 years old, and have previously not been able to afford major projects such as air travel to the islands / scuba diving, nor felt comfortable on the budget to acquire a full-time relationship with anything other than plants on the balcony. Costs for my beer budget in Thailand is quite expensive compared to neighboring countries/ but works out to about 10 USD / day for beer = 300 USD/month = calculated that I drink 6 packs of 0.5 liter cans/ day of the best beer SINGHA beer similar to KRUSOVIC or THE STAROPRAM/ Me Also rent motorbike HONDA PCX 150 CC 3000 bath / mount approx 110 USD / mounth The VISA cost is 1900 bath for every second mounth (50 USD) and must do every 60 day VISA RUN ---Maximun by LAW 2 times a year by land border CAMBODIA or MALAYSIA approx 3 000 bath with visa cost including transportation (85 USD) the other 4 times a year , need to take visa run by flight and its varoius the price BANGKOK - SIAM REAP or KUALA LUMPUR can be from 2 000 - 5 000 bath .( 55- 140 USD / 2 mounth ) . This is the most tricky one with VISA RUN from Thailand every second mounth . // but soon Today Tuesday the 6th february 2024 , acually the goverment Thai parlament take up issue about VISA WAIVER 3 mounth for US/AUSTRALIA/EUROPE/ SCANDINAVIAN / hopefully that will take in place soon I eat PIZZA 10 USD/pizza at least 2 times a week and cook good and healthy food at home, especially breakfast/lunch. and eat thai food street food especially in the shopping centers to avoid stomach ache then often because thai food with vegetables generally on the streets is cooked and rinsed with tap water. Dan, we loved your recent videos on Da Nang and this one on Nha Trang. I’m curious which of these two cities you prefer? Or is that like comparing apples to oranges?
I noticed that when I ordered a regular burger in Bali, did not taste like an American burger, so yes! Don’t expect your home country foods to taste the same everywhere else. I’m now a pescatarian (only eat fish) and not eat meats so my diet habits are different.
Living on a skimpy budget watching the pennies and cents is no way to live. It gets boring. No one has picked up on needing money for replacement clothing, shoes, household products, cosmetics. And of course if you have a girlfriend who is pretty, feminine and much younger they like new clothes and shoes, cosmetics, travelling ++. Then there are hobbies that cost money and we need money in our budget for flights back home to visit relatives and money to spend there. Also no matter how healthy and fit we are and I'm over 60, we sometimes catch a virus or need dental work. It all adds up. Having said that Dan's video's are informative, detailed and interesting.
@kevinreist7718, Are you visiting? They have a 90-day tourist visa you apply for online for $25 for most countries. Easy application: evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/trang-chu-ttdt Dan
Yes especially if you live in areas where other expats live. These areas in cities are going to be most convenient and familiar for foreigners too, food stores, more restaurant options, malls . Many of these areas are also good for Russian and Chinese (like Nha Trang) and Korean expats. Some expats feel that they must live as an "authentic" Vietnamese (as if no Vietnamese live in upscale areas!). Fine they can learn to manage by pointing and using google translate/google lens, eat only Vietnamese food, and deal with inconveniences at a lower standard of living.
Hey guys, I noticed on the video you were on a laptop working and had two screens. When working and traveling, do you bring with you a second screen like in this video everywhere you go? Thanks

Dan, thanks for the info! What about language barriers? Are there plenty of English speaking locals that work in the "local's restaurants" so you can order food? And what about when you're searching for an apartment?
Don’t worry, you can ask young people, they can speak English even maybe not good enough 😅 use google translate or body language… I don’t think it’s a barrier. You better book homestay first and then u can ask the owner about monthly rental if u want to stay longer. In Nha Trang, if u stay in the “western street”, there’re hundred kinds of accommodation around, it’s easy to find good one 😂 Welcome from VN 😊
How do you book these apartments for rent? Do you have a connection you would be willing to share with me? I plan on traveling somewhere to Southeast Asia for my first time next January in 2025 for one month

Thanks Dan. Did you say Grab taxis were 5 for $25 US? Did you notice that Grab was more expensive here than say Da Nang? I'm talking about short trips from apartment to a restaurant 5 miles away or something..... Thanks.
So you have decide to put down roots before your slow travels (exploratory visits)? I thought the same thing before I started. Nothing wrong with that.
Dan I love your videos I am thinking of semi retiring maybe 3 to 6 months per year in Vietnam 🇻🇳 I love local food you are the best person on cost of living you go into depth and I am sorry when I hear TH-camrs say you need 2500 US dollars per month I just think these people never seem to eat local food they stay in very expensive accommodation and they may as well stay in America 🇺🇸 😂
Ofcourse we all know there is huge different in the cost of living between US or Europ compare to Việt Nam! … Question is nr1 : health care , nr2 : do you travel out if Việt Nam! Every Year or 6 months??
If you have been around me long enough, you know Vietnam is one of my favorite countries in the world. But Vietnam has no retirement visa. Yet, every time we visit Vietnam, we meet many older Western people who have been here for years. Many of you asked why I didn’t ask Mark what visa he has. I have never met anyone that is overstaying a visa in Vietnam and Mark is not overstaying. Everyone I meet has permission to be in Vietnam. If you are a rule follower, you should only follow the official rules to stay in a country. That is what I recommend (and that is what Mark has done). But if you ever fall in love with a country and want to stay ... ask a few expats off camera how they stay in a country without overstaying their visa. Many people all over the world find ways to stay in countries they love. But if it doesn’t sound perfectly legit to me, I never promote it on my channel ... for two reasons. One, I don’t want to disrupt the lives of older people who are happily living in a country somewhere by publicly sharing controversial solutions that could get shut down if they became widely known because of me. Two, I don’t want to publicly encourage a large number of people to use the same controversial solutions ... it might embarrass officials and place me on a shit list. Instead, do exploratory visits, ask ex-pats questions off-camera, decide where you want to live and pick the best way for you personally to make that happen. That said ... I will be sharing more details about the various ways people are staying in Vietnam long-term as I learn more off-camera from the expats I meet here. Make sure to jump on my email list if you want to hear more controversial things that I am much more likely to share in an email after I have learned more. Email list: vagabondbuddha.com/fire-your-boss-travel-world/ Thanks for watching this video and commenting, Dan
Wonderful videos. I assume you still keep your US financial accounts when living overseas, how do you keep a US address n phone number that these banks require (the phone number is for two factor authentication )? Do you use mail forwarding service?
Can you please do a video comparing Danang and Nha Trang and/or Dalat as to which one is best for Western retirees? Please compare expat communities for retirees (female) who wants to make friends. Also is the $980+ budget for one or 2 people?
Stay tuned. Coming up. The line items and details are in the video. It covers both of us. @lizziedove1364, There is no set cost of living for everyone. The fact that one person can live on a certain amount does not mean that another person can live on that amount. The only way to know what your expenses would be is to go there and pick where you are going to live, eat, drink, and entertain yourself and add it all up. You must do an exploratory visit with your feet on the ground before you will know your cost of living. Thanks for watching and commenting on the video. Dan

I live in Thailand and travel to Vietnam. To live comfortably, you really need to budget $2000-$2500/mo. The cost of food $20/day eating 2 times a day with snacks/drinks at home. Motorbike $3100 plus gas. VISA service fees $1000+/year. Unexpected medical - depends on your condition. Anything catastrophic can cost an arm and leg. Don't forget dental expense. If you retire and want to travel, the travel expenses can be high. I own a condo and there are monthly expenses for building maintenance and unit repairs. If you rent, the landlords will pass on these expenses over time. Living in Asia in really not that cheap.
I live in Vietnam. Apparently you are living at the high end of Dan's budget. You can rent a motorbike for $50 a month, Dan allocated $25-$50. Or buy a new Honda Blade for $900 up to your SH for $3100. Gas is cheap only driving around town. Your food $20/day is $600/month, Dan estimated $530 to $730 range.
Thanks Formica. Hey @KeithHo888, thanks for the great question. Here is my report on the 4 kinds of people that retire internationally and the estimated levels of cash each type needs. These expenses in this report are for a stationary life here I explain the other three types in this report and their estimated cash needs. vagabondbuddha.com/why-philippines-living-costs-range-from-800-to-5000-usd-per-month/ Thanks again for the great question, Dan

I am looking for a video to live in Thailand with a budget of 10.000$ or more each month, all the video’s is about living in… with a budget from 750$ until 2.000$ a month. But if you have 10.000$ or more a month I can not find some video’s.
I’m in the same situation. Bloggers always focus on living cheaply. Beware though that his budget does not include healthcare, travels back to the US, etc. That said, Dan has made it clear that he could spend more money but travels this way for a better experience (as in, more authentic, more local). You could scale it up - stay in hotels, and nice ones, instead of AirBnBs/local rentals. Eat at nicer restaurants. Better class of seats for planes, trains, and automobiles. (It’s funny that there are bloggers on the other end, extremely expensive, because they’re getting comped free stays at five star resorts,)
@@formica. are there only people who live on a budget? I would like to live in winter for 3months in Thailand on a budget of 10.000$ a month and I do not find nice video’s about it., if I speak with others, they tells me the same, Maybe I wil make it myself 😀

@andang6193, There is no set cost of living for everyone. That number is for the two of us if we were living on a tight budget. Dan

Thanks for sharing this information 🙏🇬🇧
I am slow traveler exclusively in SE Asia. I love Vietnam. My vision when I’m finished slow traveling is to find a Vietnamese girlfriend, settle there, and have a wonderful rest of my life. Vietnam is my favorite
How slowly do you travel? I am doing the same but would like to hear other people's experiences.
Depends upon interests and activities of an area and personal connections. Range from 2 months to 9 months per country. I return to countries as well. I love this lifestyle

i agree, Vietnam is the greatest.
@@koufax174How much in one city?
I visited that city in 2020 right before Covid, I liked it, nice beaches.. it is a Russian tourist destination and even a lot of signs are posted in Russian
True. But check out our favorite neighborhood in the google map at the first link in the notes below this video.
There is a military base near by used to be US before 1975, then Soviet Union until 1990. That may be how Nha Trang is well-known to Russia tourists.
That's a great little neighborhood Dan! Did the walking tour yesterday and really enjoyed that. You're doing a great service so thank you!
First time I heard of Nha Trang was today. My student said he was going there with his family next Tuesday. Then low and behold this video comes up in my TH-cam feed. Looks like the writing is on the wall. Seems like a wonderful place. Love the vid!!
Oh wow!
Very good place to live there .
Wow visited 67 countries very impressive
Thank you for another valuable information and video. We are now narrow down to two beach cities to retire in Nha Trang or Da Nang. The others two are closed to the list are Hai Phong and Can Tho. Thank you again to you two wonderful folks.
Happy New Year 2024.
Sounds great! Stay tuned for our comparisons!
My pleasure!
I like to see the comparison between Nha Trang and Da Nang cities.
Sta tuned. :-)
They are both beautiful beaches. Nha Trang weather is warmer than Da Nang. Nha Trang beach has yellow sand. Danang beach has white sand.
I was born in Nha Trang but I recommend Da Nang instead. Nha Trang is for tourist or short term stay, 1-2 weeks. Da Nang is for long term and more relax and the local people are very nice.
Is it cheaper?@@san209nha9
@@san209nha9 Thanx. Problem is that Danang's air is getting increasingly more and more polluted and it's a bit more expensive.
I would fly into Da Nang and stay in the My An Beach area to start. Then take the train down to Nha Trang. Do a month each and then pick you favorite.
Do you have any idea where to rent a house or a condo reasonably price but safe?
I'm living in Thailand and evaluating a move. The posts on Da Nang et al are verrry interesting. I await update on 3 month visa renewals. Cheers.
Great systematical documentation. Thank you!
Love your presentation style: but you have overlooked 4 key expenses(according to your orbited budget) 1. Medical (medicine , dr visits and insurance) 2. Visa costs….including border runs by any method . 3. Streaming costs. 4. Entertainment including gym
Great idea. :-)
Great idea. Have you seem Qiang's channel. Thats more live talking. :-)
Not far from that CCCP coffee place you were at is a Rainforest Coffee that is easily the most unusual place I've ever been for coffee. You gotta check it out.
I spend almost 5 months in Na Thrang,in last 2 yrs,and regarding beer price in restaurants, cheapest was Saigon beer, 15000 dong or 0.59 usd.
Great job!
Yes. Plus stay tuned. We will compare in a few weeks.
it is.. winter is brutal in danang. dalat is always cold. I like Danang most overall but winter is a dealbreaker
Yes I made that comment before. This short video by Donna of how to pronounce city names will shock newbies. th-cam.com/video/0myRjzxCpx4/w-d-xo.html
Please give more info on the water filter. Constantly carrying big water bottles back to the condo is a bit of a frustration.

CCCP is a great cafe, highly recommend coconut coffee (cà phê dừa) and glutinous rice. A lot of great places here .
Couple questions Dan, As a subscriber, where do I find your information on your process to find cheap rentals for accommodation in places you stay? Also in several videos you state that you use a water filter for your drinking water. What filter do you use and how portable is it? Thanks for all the work you do.

That's sad and telling. Americans travel abroad for dental care

The couple spends 20,000,000 VND/month. If you cook for yourself, you can save 5,000,000 VND.
But if you always eat at restaurants, it's not enough
Really? I thought it was enough since soo many live ok far lower than that. Disappointed to hear. Maybe your one of the faraangs getting ripped off.
Best thing about Nha Trang is the climate compared to the rest of VN, 2nd is the small /small beach town feel along with the affordability.
Very good video. Thanks. 👍❤️😇
Hello..
I have to stay 3 minutes into your video---because you also CAN cook at home if you live in an apartment/condo with a kitchen and
the best with a tropical climate like in Vietnam or other parts of Southeast Asia it is very easy to grow in a pot your balcony different herbs and vegetables / herbs is the easiest because it grows quickly.
Costs for my beer budget in Thailand is quite expensive compared to neighboring countries/ but works out to about 10 USD / day for beer = 300 USD/month = calculated that I drink 6 packs of 0.5 liter cans/ day of the best beer SINGHA beer similar to KRUSOVIC or THE STAROPRAM/
Me Also rent motorbike HONDA PCX 150 CC 3000 bath / mount approx 110 USD / mounth
The VISA cost is 1900 bath for every second mounth (50 USD) and must do every 60 day VISA RUN ---Maximun by LAW 2 times a year by land border CAMBODIA or MALAYSIA approx 3 000 bath with visa cost including transportation (85 USD)
the other 4 times a year , need to take visa run by flight and its varoius the price BANGKOK - SIAM REAP or KUALA LUMPUR can be from 2 000 - 5 000 bath .( 55- 140 USD / 2 mounth ) . This is the most tricky one with VISA RUN from Thailand every second mounth . //
but soon Today Tuesday the 6th february 2024 , acually the goverment Thai parlament take up issue about VISA WAIVER 3 mounth for US/AUSTRALIA/EUROPE/ SCANDINAVIAN / hopefully that will take in place soon
I eat PIZZA 10 USD/pizza at least 2 times a week and cook good and healthy food at home, especially breakfast/lunch. and eat thai food street food especially in the shopping centers to avoid stomach ache then often because thai food with vegetables generally on the streets is cooked and rinsed with tap water.

Dan, we loved your recent videos on Da Nang and this one on Nha Trang. I’m curious which of these two cities you prefer? Or is that like comparing apples to oranges?
Stay tuned. We will be talking about that soon.
I noticed that when I ordered a regular burger in Bali, did not taste like an American burger, so yes! Don’t expect your home country foods to taste the same everywhere else. I’m now a pescatarian (only eat fish) and not eat meats so my diet habits are different.
Hot dogs are slightly different taste and shape too?!?
True. You will need to do an exploratory visit and add sum up what your research shows before you will know your personal living costs here.
VISA Info? I'm posting this six minutes in, so if you cover it later in the video, just ignore this question, Thanks Dan!
Depends on your country

Can you get by in English in Vietnam
Yes especially if you live in areas where other expats live. These areas in cities are going to be most convenient and familiar for foreigners too, food stores, more restaurant options, malls . Many of these areas are also good for Russian and Chinese (like Nha Trang) and Korean expats. Some expats feel that they must live as an "authentic" Vietnamese (as if no Vietnamese live in upscale areas!). Fine they can learn to manage by pointing and using google translate/google lens, eat only Vietnamese food, and deal with inconveniences at a lower standard of living.
Yes, we do. (Thanks Formica).
eye opener! tHX!!

She is right. Plus more English in tourist areas of Vietnam.

Wanna know that how long you stay at one place to properly know and enjoy everything about that place before moving to any other?
thx enjoy your life.
For retirement the visa situation is the first consideration.

Question is nr1 : health care , nr2 : do you travel out if Việt Nam!
But if it doesn’t sound perfectly legit to me, I never promote it on my channel
... for two reasons.

Dan
Man. My experiences in California USA monthly $3500. Without this amount, I'm in trouble. So stressful live in USA. Thank you for sharing bro.
Can you drink filtered Tap water in Vietnam?
That’s an amazing lifestyle for such low expenses!
Hello good sir. I'm looking to going from Arizona to SEA for a few months around April. What is the name of that platform or what have you that comes recommended for finding most cost effective flights ? Skyscanner ? I would be most grateful for any info.
Skyscanner
Nice video! Pardon my ignorance but what is the tipping etiquette?
Tipping is not required but we tip about 10% when someone serves us well.
How is Nha Trang compared to Da Nang as a digital nomad/expat?
Sounds great! Stay tuned for our comparisons!
Are there any cities in the PI that you would choose over Nah Trang?
Stay tuned. I am just thinking about that now.
I had not bought travel insurance from 2012-2019 and in 2020 I bought I travel insurance. I guess I got lucky!
What is name of hotel or motel which 6 million VN đông/ month ? Please I need to know that hotel name and address?

Do you cook at home? How often if you do a week?
That is all in the video.

Thanks again for the great question,
Dan
So many hidden costs that are seldom mentioned. I appreciate your honesty as well a reality check. One must recognize the truth about a situation, especially about the difficulties involved in something they want to achieve.
Thanks 🙏
Mha trang is my fav spot on the planet
Thank you
How easy/difficult is it for a foreigner to open a business in Nha Trang, or anywhere in Vietnam, for that matter?
You need to apply for business visa
There are expats all over the palce that open restaurants, bars, and stores. You need to get a business visa unless you are married to a local.
u could make an episode about how u met your vietnamese girlf friend and the relationship?

It's all great for the cost but retiring just to eat, lay on a beach and live in a tiny hotel room sounds really boring to me.
Why would you limit yourself to only those two activities?
Did you edit the? I remember a few months ago it was $853!
I think that was Da Nang.
Currently, in the USA, the cost of renting a master bedroom for sharing purposes typically ranges from $1200 to $1500 per month.
How did you meet your girl friend ? Real slim pickings on info with this tantalizing story bro!
He has told his tantalizing personal story many times bro.

Why would anyone need a video for that?
@@formica. are there only people who live on a budget? I would like to live in winter for 3months in Thailand on a budget of 10.000$ a month and I do not find nice video’s about it., if I speak with others, they tells me the same,
Maybe I wil make it myself 😀
@@Kenneth-g7u Ok there is a guy Jeff Gunther who makes mid to high end Bangkok real estate videos. He seems well connected, maybe he can refer you or provide a guide. www.youtube.com/@JettGunther
Just fly there and do whatever you want and never ask the price for anything. You still may not be able to spend that much per month. lol.
Are you doing the Visa run all the time?

$953 a month for 2 people or 1 ? Thanks
@andang6193, There is no set cost of living for everyone. That number is for the two of us if we were living on a tight budget. The fact that one person can live on a certain amount does not mean that another person can live on that amount.
