Fear serves to that make you realize your weakness so you can replace it with confidence and bravery as you age.
It's a an emotion that when we are young keeps us in line and out of harm's way.
Its part of growing up, but once you reach adulthood it serves the opposite purpose and many forget to not let it overshadow their true potential and it's result of waisted energy usually pondering on what future hold while they forget to live in the only moment we have to shine-NOW IN THE PRESENT.

N = Non-identify. What he is saying is, if you can "percieve" your own emotion (point it out and identify it) that means it is not "you" ("You" are the one pointing at it). So there is no need to identify with the emotion because it is not "you."

    • @operationblackbishop4785
      @operationblackbishop4785 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

I would put it another way.
Everything can be perceived in the certain context. No context, no perception.
So as Jung said, if something making you nervous it is something in you that resonates with it. So you have some internal context which makes you perceive.

    • @tresmegetit369
      @tresmegetit369 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@operationblackbishop4785 I agree. Very good here. Then, instead of saying, "I am This Anger" you can instead say, " I FEEL this anger but the anger is NOT WHO I AM it is what I feel about some circumstance going on in my life". And, this monk has said, " you investigate as if you were an investigator and ask where it comes from, why is it there and any other important questions but without judgement. Then simply accept that you are feeling hurt, anger, envy or whatever it is one is currently feeling.
These emotions are the waves on an ocean but not the ocean itself but somehow is resonate with the under currents of the ocean. The rise and they fall and can do so without an injury to one's true self.

Seeing as he comes from a Buddhist background. By non identity he likely means that there is no you. There is no underlying thing that can be considered “you” and that things arise only when certain causes and conditions are met ie: the screen.

There certainly is substance to fear, and the fact that you're alive demonstrates it quite effectively. It isn't fear itself that has no substance. It is disproportionate fear that lacks substance. Hyper-exaggerated fear, irrational fear, or even a lack of fear, which can alter good judgement.

This is a wonderful explanation of how to deal with ‘unwanted’ troublesome emotions. Tara Brach has lots of videos on the ‘RAIN’ practice, and Rupert Spira often uses the analogy of the cinema screen. It’s all easier said than done when emotions are overwhelming, but I guess, like anything worthwhile, practice is key.

Guys, if you are fearful of something, it just means you arent prepared to face it, whatever "it" is. Preparation is the key to overcoming fear. Fear is not an illusion. It's a feeling. Since the human being is the only animal that thinks he is not an animal, he denies fear. Rationally, the human being retreats in fear, instinctively, the animals advance for fear of losing their lives.

If a human jump from a cliff he will die no need for fear if you know the result, if you don’t know the result you fear….dont fear for uncertain things just do what you must without fear. Also some emotions are depend from hormones like testo or cortisol…..more testo and you dont fear anything cause you know you are strong 💪 😅😅

It's crazy how I instinctively knew what he meant by N in the R.A.I.N. because that's what I've learned (not too long) (and bear with me here) during a pretty strong PMS 😂 Usually you can find the "reasons" for feeling so overwhelmed by emotions. But that time I didn't. There was nothing wrong. Nothing to complain about. Yet hormonal emotional storm still came and shook me to the core. And I was just lying there thinking "yes, I feel these emotions. Yes, they're extremely intense. But I don't have any ground for them. They're just hormones acting up. They're real, they're important, I need to feel them and understand they belong to me. But they're not me, they will pass. It's an important emotion, but it's just an emotion".
That day for the first time in my life I've felt grateful for periods.... because to learn that "an emotion is just an emotion" felt so powerful ❤and natural...

Simple advice from an older woman: during perimenopause and menopause, strong emotions can come up due to the hormonal upheaval. Don’t get fobbed off with antidepressants like I did (doctors 🙄🤬) they won’t help. Bio identical HRT is much better, or other ‘natural’ alternatives ❤

Having courage is not about never being afraid. You might be scared to do something but you do it anyway is the definition of courage. Courageous people are not without fear. Overcome a fear only if it is necessary in your job or brings you happiness in life. For example, if public speaking is occasionally part of your job and you are uncomfortable with it, overcome your fear with proper training, practice and preparation. And then do it even if you have fear. The more you do it the less fearful you will be. But if for example you have a fear of heights and bungee cording off a tall bridge brings you neither happiness or is part of you job, there is no need to overcome that fear.

Thought is a train. Nobody, gets on a train not knowing where they started and not knowing where they need to get off. But some of us choose the sensation of moving forward even when our stop has passed us by. Or some of us fall asleep at the most inopportune time, right before our stop. And our train of thought carries us to places we never intended to go.

When I was a kid, I was being bullied at school by a group of other kids. I came home from school one day with bruises and torn clothes. My Dad asked me what had happened, and I told him about the bullying. He told me that I should stand my ground and fight back. I told him that I couldn’t because I was frightened. I wasn’t brave.
My Dad said that there’s no such thing as bravery, it’s just not being afraid to be afraid.
The following day I stood up to the three bullies.
    They never bothered me again.

I Love Master Shi Heng Yi but fear is certainly not an "illusion". Fear is what stops you from running in front of a moving train, it's a survival mechanism. However, some people's fears are illusions. Much Love and Respect.

That does not mean it isn't a construct of the mind. It is definitely helpful, as we would not be here without. Exactly as youre describing, fear is important and integral to our survival. In modern days, however, our mind tends to overcompensate for what it is we are fearing. Like writing a paper, or making your bed, just to give a couple examples. This is when it is no longer labeled as fear, but as anxiety. When researching anxiety and the martial arts, this is what came up. I realized that labeling as anxiety is what gives it so much power. It is fear that I do not need, because there is no material value to it, exactly as Master Shi is describing. It is different when there is material value to it, like when there is a train that could hurt you, in your example. You simply want to know when it is genuine. I hope I am not received in aggression, I simply wish to provide my own context. I am no expert. I also hope you have a wonderful day.

How i approach fear is something that I call a "Fear Tree".
Investigate the trail of fear to the root and attack that with all you got. The rest of the tree will fall. Fear of Financial issues? You need a job/extra job, put all your effort towards it.
Identify the root where you can convert fear to effort, you can't just remove fear but you can trade it off for effort which is in your control and a choice.

    Luke 6:27-36 ESV
    Love Your Enemies
27 “But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. 29To one who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also, and from one who takes away your cloak do not withhold your tunic either. 30Give to everyone who begs from you, and from one who takes away your goods do not demand them back. 31And as you wish that others would do to you, do so to them.
32 “If you love those who love you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. 33And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same. 34And if you lend to those from whom you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount. 35But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil. 36Be merciful, even as your Father is merciful.

Here is a trinity to keep in mind: 1) laughter 2) crying 3) orgasm. They all usually don't have words attached to them. We cry and laugh when people die. We laugh and cry when people are born. It is all made possible by an orgasm. Smile.....this place has a sense of humor.

My roommate was a devil worshiper.
One night a spirit came in my room at 2am. The atmosphere changed in a split second the feeling was 100% pure fear I've never experienced in my entire life.
It was choking me in my sleep & giving me nightmares for 2weeks.
When I figured out what was going on. I just called my Heavenly Father in the name of Jesus. & like a good dad he took care of that battle for me. My roommate up & moved out of nowhere & left to another state.
    *THANK YOU JESUS*

My libgs are getting worse. I am afraid of my impending heart attack. And I want to be peaceful. But when your lungs give out and your heart gives out , who wouldn't be scared of that?
Not knowing what the paramedics or ER will do scares me. A heart attack is no peaceful way to pass. Pass. Pray for me people.

What are libgs? Is there no treatment? Lots can be done for poorly hearts - medicine, operations, pacemakers etc. please investigate rather than resign yourself to dying from a heart attack 🙏
