I love the generation ships. Each one is a unique story, from heroic to horrifying, and could serve as a seed for countless tales. The logs of the ships that have been found are worth checking out, either in person or on TH-cam. My one issue with generation ships is the number that supposedly launched. It's comically, impossibly high. Particularly given that humanity was recovering from a nuclear war during that period! Honestly, if it was 1/100th the number the official sources claim then it would barely be plausible, but I could accept it. To me, I justify it as "ancient records are notoriously inaccurate." It wouldn't take much to move a decimal point and accidentally rewrite history.
This video shoukd be watched before or even after the hyperspace video u offer. The two are really well made. And they also make you reflect and contemplate Space and stars and time which is an important philosophy enabling magic power from ED and good games/works of art. I prefer how u made hyperspace and this one compared to the primer 1 and 2 historical eras recap / basic knowledge on ED as they make u grasp more the matter of what u are talking about
Probably for the same reason it is illegal to contact uncontacted tribes today. It generally leads to negative consequences and exploitation of the tribe.
I would think it’d be cruel not to contact them. If people have already colonized their destination world and developed technology that makes their entire mission obsolete, you might as well take them off their tin can and give them each a couple acres somewhere.
Another great story from Drew. Good work! Where does the figure of 70,000 ships come from? That number is just, well huge. I might understand 700 ships, but 70,000?
Its 2021, and Odyssey is out but you using footage from ELITE Dangerous (not even from Horizons but 2014 version). Is this the message you trying to put out there or what.
I think you'll find this video was composed long before EDO was released. ;) The Generation ships weren't in ED during 2014, they were added much later.
@@drewwagar You work is so good your material needs to be in the game. That would make the game successful beyond anyone's imagination. Unfortunately, they probably would not do that.
Thank you for putting so much work into giving this universe context and depth.
I love listening to these every now and then while space truckin. Definitely helps the immersion factor. I really appreciate your work!
Love listening to this. You could almost believe it's a real documentary. Great stuff! And it puts you in the perfect frame of mind to play E.D.
Glad you enjoyed it!
This series is exactly what i needed, it fuels my addiction for discoveries
Good story... good voice acting... good content... - suddenly Elite being 5km long aquired another inch deep ;)
Love this series!
Wonderfully immersive.

This reminds me of “Bodacious Space Pirates” when the cast visits the The Golden Ghost ship aka the Queen Serendipity Generation Ship in Tau Ceti

Deep story, perfectly told. Loved it!
God I love this freakin game and everyone who's helped bring it to life. Thank you
Why does the interstellar law prohibit communication with generation ships?
I would love to know the answer to this as well. It makes no sense why they'd prohibit such an action.
Probably for the same reason it is illegal to contact uncontacted tribes today. It generally leads to negative consequences and exploitation of the tribe.
@@Xymor That's a fair reason I suppose.
Someone's calling dibs over anything interesting that the ships may have found along the way.

It comes from the original Elite manual of 1984.
Again drew love the video and still think frounteer should hire you once a week for a radio show in game or something similar
They couldn't afford me. ;)
Why does the thumbnail look like the dark wheel codex screen shot?
I dont have this much context in my own life!
I wonder if we can actually go find one of these Generation ships...
You can - they are in the game. :)
One is very close to the starter systems, I found it on my FSS Scanner by accident :)
