I studied the Thargoids for the longest time, with a view to trying to learn more about them, only shooting in defence. However, about a year ago they became really REALLY aggressive.
All my research has yielded is how to hijack a thargoid wormhole (but not how to use one.)

My first encounter with a thargoid was a moment I will never forget. And interdiction would be putting it lightly. I just dropped out of super cruise and at first nothing. My ship started shutting down and I was sitting there like. Oh man! I broke my ship. Maybe it needed some sort of maintenance. Then there was something to my right? It came into view and now I say frozen in my seat thinking… Do I have the funds to replace my ship. It scanned me and then… It left. I thought Elite Dangerous was getting into more story driven content. While there were some great initial speculation. To even get to deal with the Thargoids means grinding for new weapons and defenses. Mainly from guardian sites. After grinding out at guardian sites. I’m burnt out! But soon! Soon Thargoids!

You know what I find sad is that the developers actively said that war with the thargoids or peace is going to depend on the average of players who actively attack them meaning they will be friendly or hostile but so many people decided to attack they are now objectively hostile good work people 👏 now man kind in the game is going to eventually head to war with them and it will take all the three major factions and all independent human systems to have to unite to defeat them cause less face it they are superior when it comes to tech for fuck sake there ships can move in hyperspace like we can in just supercruise they have the ability to even indication our ships in hyperspace while jumping between systems

That's why the thargoids are aggressive.
The hostility of thargoids is based on how much players attack them, if no players attack them at all, thargoids will be at peace and maybe dev's will consider having people fined and bounties placed on them for attacking thargoids.
Maybe we can band together and bring peace, after all I've wanted to study them up close

I'm currently in Guardian space around Regor to search for any clues that could hint at what the Thargoid intentions are, and I'm planning to stop next by the Coalsack nebula to search for further clues.
I speculate that, as a sentient species, the Thargoids aren't all unified, and must have diverging groups with differing goals. At the time when it all happened, Guardians were far less superiour than you might expect them to be. They were torn appart by civilian wars, lots of casualties, no time to care for anything but survival, resources were scarce. And then one of the Constructs become self aware, become sentient, even sapient in some sense. He was aware that guardians are about to destroy each other, but before that, they will destroy everything else - and Constructs not likely to survive in this mess. So this Construct decided to act in advance to destroy Guardians, before they will destroy each other and Constructs with them. Being a Civilian Construct, he didn't have necessary means to act. Which is why he manipulated his "brother" military Construct into making him believe that not only Guardians will destroy each other, but they will also destroy them both and legacy of this civilization will be lost forever. Guardians were already in colapse state of their civilization, and Civilian Construct simply didn't find any reason for them to exist anymore. He was sure, that it's the end for this civilization, and that he will simply speed up the process to survive in this mess. So he did.
Obviously they both survived and most likely they created an entire AI civilization of their own. But as of now, their wereabouts are unknown. My best guess is - we did triggered them when activated beacons and this story will continue somewhere in a future.

So I wonder whether others noticed, but purely lorewise (and not gamewise) the supercruise capability of human ships and the incapability of supercuise and supercruise interdiction of thargoid ships ought to be a vast tactical advantage for mankind, because it can render human ships intouchable by thargoid means. Just imagine what could some agile missile boat that zips around in supercruise, evading all projectile / directed energy beam that's travel rate is constrained by the speed of light, meanwhile dumping out detaching heavy smart ordenance that home in the target.
Even if such ship does only sublight supercruise (but close to the speed of light) it is more then enough to keep a safe vast distance from a thargoid ship where every attack can be dodged or outrun, considering the acceleration / deceleration that the supercruise is capable of.
Thargoid ships against such supercruise missile boats would be as helpess as tanks against 5th gen. multi-role fighter jets.
Of course ordenance detachment might pose an issue during supercruise, however, it should not be a problem for sublight supercruise.

Hey Drew, where can I buy copies of these books you've written? I may be a relative newcomer to the lore in games of Elite, but... Well, to say I want to put my own mark on this universe because I love it, and therefore want to be a part of its growth, wouldn't quite do justice to my wanting. There are secrets here I so desperately want to find.

So these things actually happened in the game or how do lore events work in the game?
I started doing some digging for Elite lore that i never knew, and it made me really curious about the technical/implementation aspect of it. I want to understand better how this game "presents" its content updates, how did the devs plan them out.
It's just based around GalNet and the Community Goals which are scripted events paired with content updates or were those things there all along?
How does one differentiate between game specific events and just Roleplaying?

    • @jigsawalwayswins8636

There are in game events full of lore and tied to lore. Typically they are found in the form of puzzles. So exploration is a must to do these events

@@jigsawalwayswins8636 Well yeah, i watched all the story videos by Drew but then i watched TheYamiks video on the lore. It seems they didnt really succed in making something concrete, they could have done way more and the way they implemented what they did is kinda questionable from a game design perspective.... it does feel like they missed out on capitalizing on these "events", they put a lot of detail in other areas but for these main plots, they felt shallow.

The best aliens in fiction are the ones we know very little about, like the thargoids. Because what is an alien? An alien is something from beyond our understanding, something inhuman. We don't know what the Thargoids truly are, where they come from or what they want. And that mystery is what makes them so interesting.

@@drewwagar Please stay true to original of Elite Dangerous. Since most of thargoid story from Elite and other games is officially retconned now. These are not exactly the same thargoids we knew before. The thargoids we are facing today, are far more intellegent than a simple bugs they were back then. They now have strategy and some yet uknown reasons which forced them to attack only AEGIS stations (the first 20+ stations with AEGIS labs), and then incursions only in systems with terraformable ammonia worlds in it. FD changed a lot of things in narrative around them. They are back now, only because Sirius decided to mock them with terraforming one of their "marked" ammonia planets. So now we are waiting for Sirius to be humilated and forced to go "underground" as it was done with AEGIS before. As you can see, there a lot of things going on.. Thanks for video. Keep it up CMDR!

  • @ducoschollmeijer4841

So here is a little theory i have come up with that could explain the behaviour of the Thargoids. 1. They are naturally curious and want to interact with the human race, but seem unable to. This would explain the very first interdictions and scans. 2. They attack the human race because on first contact, the humans did not think about communicating, because unlike them, we are afraid of the unknown, this caused a sort of "honour war". Its just that they want vengeance for their fallen brethren. 3. The thargoids could possibly be a Fermi Paradox. They are The Great Filter, sent to prevent any species from achieving godlike amounts of technology. 4. If they are a part of the Fermi Paradox, this could also be a Dark Forest situation. You have to survive, at all costs, and other species also have to survive at all costs, meaning its better to attack, rather than trust and risk being backstabbed. These are only theories, but they do explain some of the behaviour of the Thargoids.

I have a sneaking suspicion that if SpaceX continues to exponentially grow the rate at which we explore space, we will be encountering other lifeforms looong before the 29th century. I would almost bet money that once we set foot on Mars, we find remnants of life there. I nominate Mars as the most likely candidate for a lost civilization, as when the earth was in it's primordial state, Mars sat nicely in the "green zone", and therefore had liquid water on its surface. Weird to think about how futile everything is, as in a billion years the earth will be too far from the sun to support any life.

    • @amateurprogrammer25
