Judy and Geoffrey truly did have the best onscreen chemistry. Every scene they did was pure magic. R.I.P Geoffrey😔
In fact, they end the series with their letter found in the Imperial War Museum. It made cry.

This was the show that introduced me to Dame Judi Dench and Geoffrey Palmer. As an American I've always loved British TV. This show is one of my favorites of all time. I love the tremendously skilled acting by everyone involved. And Jean and Lionel are so heart-warmingly wonderful.
Rest in Peace Geoffrey. You touched so many lives with your acting. We all miss you.

RIP Geoffrey Palmer. This show was a big part of my childhood. It was my Canadian introduction to British TV and my Mother and I would laugh about recalled scenes year later, right up until she passed. I still watch it now and think of her. Thanks for the memories.
My 86-year-old father is a HUGE fan of this show, our local PBS station has been showing back-to-back episodes every Saturday night for at least 20 years, dad is right there in front of the TV every Saturday night at 7pm, he loves singing along with the opening/closing theme. It isn't Saturday night at our house w/out As Time Goes By. They used to show "Keeping Up Appearances," which he enjoyed as well, but PBS quit showing it years ago, he was so upset, but at least he can still watch ATGB.
I love this show as well. I sing along at the end, lovely song and show.
Was your father my Papa? 😅 He and my Nana loved this show and they watched it on our local PBS station for at least as long as that, too. ❤ I miss them dearly.

Beautiful show. My wife and I have been watching this show for many years since 2000 on PBS. We subscribed to Britbox just to watch this show and we watch even now almost everyday. It is refreshing and calming to see this show at these tough times of pandemic, political turmoil, public demonstrations, unrest, brush fires, hurricanes, flooding, thousands of people dying, unending barrage of news broadcasts from every channel with depressing news,...RIP Geoffrey Palmer. We will miss you forever.
Yes, I loved this show. I had the full boxset and knew almost every word of every episode. It was lovely escapism, and just hearing the theme tune I could feel that my blood pressure was dropping and the world was (temporarily) all right. Brilliantly cast and acted.
I discovered this show during the pandemic and it kept me calm and sane! I still rewatch it all the time especially since I am about their age and met an old neighbor boy who I had lost touch with for 30 years and married him!
No annoying special effects or high powered visuals and background music, only sheer talent and beautifully scripted dialogue from two brilliantly talented actors, Dame Judy Dench and the wonderful Jeffrey Palmer. Production, direction and writing for this show was gold standard, oh how I miss those years watching this series on PBS with my beloved parents, now both passed.
Rest in peace, Geoffrey Palmer. Thank you so much for all the happy moments you have given us.

RIP Geoffrey Palmer. I haven't seen him on TV since I moved to the USA in 1979 but I remember when I lived in the UK he would pop up on TV in almost everything. The Avengers, The Saint, Dr. Who, Fawlty Towers and numerous series. A very versatile actor who could play any part convincingly and seemingly without effort.
Such a wonderful show. So heartwarming and funny.
This takes me back. Shame British TV has changed so much since then.

I LOVE this show. I so looked forwrd to this every sat night on the BBC. I became so involved in it and their lives I wanted to BE a part of it. Lol. So romantic. The one where they are in bed and Jean says "Lionel? I do" an he smiles and says "I do too " just makes me cry happy tears. I have this boxed set and I just love it. So sorry to hear Lionel(he will always be) is gone. I loved his sense of humor in a houseful of women, lol. Will NEVER be another.. 💔 the entire cast was wonderful.
No-one could invest a simple two-letter word -Oh - with such a rich variety of meanings as Judi Dench.
I saw her in London 1968 at the Palace theater doing the show Cabaret .

I have watched this series, every single episode, several times, and it always makes me laugh a bit...but also cry. Ms Dench does a terrific job in any production she appears in, and Mr Palmer sticks right with her whenever they appear together, but here...just perfect.
Part of me wonders why this series was never adapted here in the 'states, perhaps making Vietnam " substitute " for Korea, but we have no American actors and actresses that can touch the folks in this excellent cast. 30 years ago maybe, maybe Carol Burnett and Walter Matheau could have come close.
Producers in Hollywood lack the maturity to do an American version of this show. Don't you remember the episode where a Hollywood film crew "americanizes" Lionel's book?

I saw that episode, but I chalked up the focus of that episode as an example of the British view that American tv " wastes " a lot money to produce junk. In the case of " As Time Goes By " and most other Britcoms, the salaries aren't as inflated as they are here. Most tv programming is paid for by license fees charged to viewers.
If you have never seen him, I recommend you catch The Russell Howard Hour or Russell Howard Good News. He occasionally skeweres (sp?) British tv.
The Americans also fought in Korea....

@@howtubeable oh goodness. I just watched that episode a few weeks ago. They're showing this on PBS, and yesterday's episode was when they got married. I need to watch the earlier episodes from the beginning of the series.
I love this show. It fills me with nostalgia
I would really like to go back and rewatch this in full. I'd catch the odd episode on PBS or BBC America now and then and it made me laugh. I remember one scene in particular where Lionel attempts to swear on the Bible to assert the truth about something, and Jean interrupts and notes "That's Winnie the Pooh."

A time when good manners existed, this is a lovely understated programme with no forced drama.

Every once in a while something pops up in my brain, this morning while cooking breakfast "You didn't bother to write a second bloody letter did you?" This was a great show, I've seen all the episodes several times and I laugh at them every time. My husband couldn't remember the title As Time Goes By, he called it Lavern and Shirley, I'll miss Lionel.

I watched this with my mom and sister every one. And when it came out on dvd I bought 2 sets. My mom , I can still hear her. Where is the VHS 📼 tapes I can’t work the Cd’s I don’t have a CD player. Lol 😂 I ran out and spent my whole check getting her a TiVo player and 💿 CD player. I lost weight that week no money. Would not trade it for the 🌎 world. Love this show.❤️💯

You can tell when the BBC situation is desperate for money! They will sell the kitchen sink! So, where is Top Gear and the multi-million dollars BBC invested in. The BBC invested in popular programs and expect to milk it forever and a day. You cannot have a streak dinner and expect to eat the same meal forever! I remember in the American analog system were only advertisers pay for viewing and the audience just watched and marked the poll survey!
