I like how the interviewer was looking for a deeper meaning behind their roles and literally every one of them was like “we’re actors it’s what we do, we follow the script” lol
Phoenix literally feeds on these disturbed, twisted characters. I cannot see this film doing anything other than being a success. D.C allowing the director free creative reign can only mean that the studio has modest expectations.
This movie exposed the hypocrisy of Rotten Tomatoes for me. Not the rating system or tomatoometer. But the critics approved by RT. I read all the 18 rotten reviews and only the wrap and indiewire were honest in their critical reviewing. The rest were plain biased and dishonest, fueled by their preference and politics not a single one of them judged the movie on the plot, screenplay or even the cinematography but they gave it rotten because it was against their politics.
Rotten tomatoes works for me tho. If the critic reviews are shit the film is GOOD. If the reviews are good , the film is some leftist political propaganda
@@jinxd511 i don't think that's an entirely logical process to judge rotten tomatoes. It's not consistent. I would say that that if the audience score is low and the critice score is split almost 50/50 it's more than likely a good/interesting movie. Audiences can be retarded at times, but so can critics, so imo you should just watch the movie and make up your own opinion. That, or find a critic that you find yourself agreeing with often rather than looking up a general consensus
“How do you get the mother and son relationship to work? Is there anything to that?”.. yes mate, Joaquin and Francis both live together for six months to a year.. she puts him to bed, feeds him breakfast, lunch and dinner, washes his clothes and gives him hugs and kisses to really solidify that relationship. They are actors and actresses, they are directed and the script gives them what they need, it’s how they convey the emotions is what makes it. No deep meaning or understanding behind it, just good acting.

@Weebajock dugatti Day Lewis is Great Actor but not better than De Niro and Phoenix. Because Day lewis is predictable and more of a Workhorse, where Phoenix and De Niro are naturally Gifted actors
@@Billie0708 There are two types of actors. Emotes, and transformers. Some actors specialize in one over the other. Jared Leto for example is a hard core Transformer, he is completely unrecognizable and disappears into the character. But alot of the time his performances feel empty. Denzel Washington is the opposite. He specializes in delivering powerful emotional performances, but he is basically playing Denzel Washington in every movie he's in. I think that in order to calibrate the best actor of all time, the measure is, that actor would have to be masters at both. Daniel Day Lewis without a doubt checks both boxes. Lets look at the emoting. His baptism scene in There Will Be Blood, his fucking astounding "leave me my name" performance in The Crucible, (Daniel took this generic movie and turned it into a classic with his sheer performance) his more subtle and nuanced emotional performance in Phantom Thread at several points- more notably when he sees Alma having fun in the New Years Party as well as the scene when he describes his feelings to his sister- his masterful emotional performance with the "I love you" scene in My Left Foot. There may be more I'm missing. And his transformation speaks for itself. Not only did he dedicate himself to becoming another person to such a degree in The Boxer that actual boxing experts say his boxing in the film was the best depiction of real boxing put to film, but he completely and utterly disappears within other lives. His dedication pays off, the transformation never feels cheap like in some cases with many transformation actors. It feels as though each character could jump off the screen and have a discussion with eachother in a room, none of them suspecting that they all have the same face. I watched three films with my mother, Daniel Day-Lewis playing the main character in all three. The Fourth film, she asks what actor is playing the main character, for she truly didn't know that Daniel Day-Lewis was in the movie playing the main character. Joaquin is in fact the best RIGHT NOW, but he was second to Daniel Day-Lewis before the latter retired. Joaquin simply does not have the sheer album and body of work that matches Daniel's. Give Joaquin more time, and we'll see if his career stacks up. But for right now I reserve the best for Daniel Day-Lewis.
I think he’s definitely one of the greatest. I was saying to a friend the other day that he makes me forget that he’s acting. Like, I totally believe he is the character and that the character is real. I’m not thinking, oh, this is just Joaquin Phoenix pretending to be XYZ, like I do with, say, Brad Pitt or Leo DiCaprio. Yep, it baffles me that he still didn't win an Oscar yet.
@@themadtitan7603
In 2014? I think, he basically openly mocked the Academy and flipped off the awards season. He hasn't gotten any awards buzz from the Academy most likely because of that. Joaquin doesn't give a fuck about awards, but he does need recognition.
Well i just watched the film, and you are right about his acting ability.
Have been a fan of his acting since Gladiator. I hated him there lmao.
Ive always felt he is a gentle soul
Respect to Todd Phillips , proud of his work , well done sir.
Zazie Beetz tied this movie together. She was only in a few scenes but man she was good. Her reaction to Arthur being in her apartment rattled me so much. I instantly knew something was wrong about the sweet and loving way that their relationship had been portrayed. It was such a crazy jolt. I really believed that she was totally shocked. i think DC should go this way with their movies instead of trying to compete with marvel
And is exactly what they are doing right now, this is probably the First movie from "DC Black"(there's rumors about an upcoming movie about Lex Luthor with Ryan Gosling) and there's also the DCEU (Aquaman,Wonder Woman, Shazam etc) such a amazing work in both ways
@@girlboss3426 Aquaman and wonderwoman were shit, so was justice league ... joker was great. im saying they should do more realism and character studies rather than the whole "super hero" thing...
that's exactly what I think. DC a d marvel are different completely. I think if they do more of a joker tone with their movies it will be successful, (well not for all movies ofc some dont need that darker tone)
@@arohavalentine6349 not all would need the darker tone but if they approach their movies from the angle of realism and going deep into the character it would really give them a different feel to the super hero movies marvel are churning out. i like marvel and DC are definitely not doing it right. they need something that sets them apart from marvel. imo

@@jinxd511 its called free speech bitch
@@jinxd511 Because he said fuck trump? Yeah, fuckem.

Ha
Exactly even Francis seemed confused by the question and replied that it's really just acting.

There are two types of actors.
