I've been waiting for this conversation for a WHILE. I was lucky enough to meet Lawrence Sher a few weeks ago at an event at my school and man I can't believe how outstanding the cinematography was for this movie.
I really like the film and I can see Joaquin getting in. But I just don’t feel the movie will be nominated because certain Academy members are sissies.

I love how they’re not avid comic readers for the storytelling but are rather telling the story from a movie makers point of view. Although they did do research and got some influence from the killing joke and other jokers they’re initial reason for making the movie is for great storytelling, character study, and movie making. Amazing !! Plus Joaquin as expected was phenomenal

The negative press is really disappointing. I would bet some of the negative critics have downplayed mental illness in their own experiences and it gives them some feeling of self conscious and guilt. I think Todd’s directing is kinda underrated in this film. His vision is clear as day and he directs this story beautifully

@@LG1204 Hey I want there to be a shakeup at the Oscar's next year. I don't want a safe movie winning. The masses want a superhero movie to Win Best Picture. The negative press is really disappointing. I would bet some of the negative critics have downplayed mental illness in their own experiences and it gives them some feeling of self conscious and guilt. If black panther can be nominated for best picture and not the joker... all I can think of "is it just me, or is it getting crazier out there?"

The joke's on you if you didn't give Joker at least a nomination but Joker deserves the Best Actor, Picture, Cinematography, Score, Screenplay, Director, just all the rest, I know some critiques would be negative about Joker but despite a little positive towards it, but this really deserved it.

Common Academy, you have a chance to compensate for the abomination that you did by snubbing The Dark Knight in practically every major category...Joker may have not been as revolutionary as TDK but it is a phenomenal film and Joaquin deserves that Oscar, not only because he was terrific in Joker but also because he is long overdue an Oscar after so many extraordinary performances- Her, The Master, Gladiator, You Were Never Really Here, Walk The Line, Inherent Vice and the list goes on...
massive props to phillips taking the risk and pushing an artistic movie into mainstream cinema.

It's time for a Comic book movie to Win Best Picture. It's a worthy winner. It's just below The Dark Knight. In terms of quality and the overall package
You can't really compare the two, dark knight was an all out batman action movie and this movie in particular is a character study.
Also the movie is divisive. It's not everybodys taste. Divisive rarely wins. It needs to be loved by most voters. Plus it also depends on competition. Are there really no better pictures out there?

@@Denis-89 I'm aware how the nominations are finalised and how the winners are decided, I was giving my personal preference. Most probably joker won't win due to the controversies surrounding it and the SJWs and the woke members in the academy. They nominated something like Black Panther but snubbed Logan and The Dark Knight.
