I want to help students of math understand difficult topics better, and at the same time, I want YT to help me advance my career as a mathematics professor.
Here's the mission statement from my channel: "The Rational Workforce is a place dedicated to looking at the news, people, policies, and programs that are shaping today’s world of work in a way that strips away the jargon and pushes back on political correctness." If I can monetize at some point down the road, great. If I can help people to think differently, see an issue from a different angle, or just know they're not alone out there... that's what it's all about. Thank you so much for your guidance and support. You rock.
I want to be able to make videos for people who enjoy watching gaming content and with that, hopefully be able to make enough money for myself to live off. But also enough so I can also help people around the world who are less fortunate than me (such as homeless people ) to be able to live happy lives. (I know it seems far fetched but Iam willing to do what it takes to reach my goals and dreams).
Here you go: 1. We feel like somehow as the content on the internet is increasing, hate and misinformation is also increasing. Of course we can't solve all of that, but we certainly would like to spread more awareness about cultures and how beautiful and funny it can be when cultures interact with each other. We hope to bring a smile on people's faces and at the same time provide them 2 cents worth of information about cultures. So that's why we do inter-cultural comedy on TH-cam. 2. Our ultimate goal is to help the under-priviledged in the world and we would like to use TH-cam to get an audience to listen to what we have to say. At the beginning yeah sure we are here to make people laugh, but we are also here to make people think. Once TH-cam helps us get an audience, we are certain that that particular audience will definitely have some sensitivity towards important topics in this world too. We want to make an impactful change in the world, but there's no change possible without the support of people. Although we are struggling pretty bad on TH-cam at the moment, but we are in it for the long game, just that we don't really know where we are going wrong (if we are). Lastly, thanks a lot for your guidance Nate, in India we say - it's always in the eyes and your eyes say that you are a true and genuine human being trying to make a change. God bless you for that! Cheers ❤
This is my mission statement on my About page, "Learn how to fix/improve stuff in & around your home w/ easy-to-follow videos for mere mortals like most of us. Save money, know the job is getting done properly, and feel great after you Do It Yourself (D.I.Y.)! I do my best to also explain the WHY of things instead of just showing you HOW."
As a teacher and a self-proclaimed content creator, I'm genuinely thrilled that I decided to click on this video. It's incredibly inspiring, and I want to extend my heartfelt thanks for that.
Over the last 6 months to a year I’ve struggled with exactly this… on the one hand wanting to get the views, the subs, the recognition. But on the other hand not enjoying the path where I could find these things, I’ve now figured out that what I actually want from TH-cam isn’t all that, it’s to build a community that can chat with eachother and share their genuine passion for the art, not the numbers… and this video feels like a sign that I’ve made the right call. Thanks Nate❤️
Nate, I’ve been binge watching your videos over the last week or so. They have been paramount in helping me navigate this new journey. I operate on the opposite side of the brain so kudos for you in getting through to a creative like me. But I must say, beyond that, in each video I watch, I see more of your character, heart, and passion. You are a gem and I’m so glad I was drawn to click on that first video.
You really hit me with the Roosevelt quote; not just the words but the way you read it with such emotion and feeling. I felt the meaning behind every sentence and could see that this meant something to you, personally, as your eyes welled up. Thank you for being one of the few who dare to stand in the ring. (Timestamp 08:09)
As I complete your BRAND & WHY answers form, watching this video in hindsight is even more inspiring. Now, with all of us witnessing the aftermath of what happened four months ago, I believe we can truly understand the reasons behind your actions, why you left CM, and why you're generously giving so much to us. A thousand times thank you!
Discovered your channel maybe 3 weeks ago and you're teachings have been invaluable for me as a newbie creator on TH-cam. Bless you, Nate. I love your passion, genuine kindness, and sense of humor. So glad to see this older video after watching many of your new ones. It sheds light into a more rounded background story for you. Take care
I first started to share my experiences after losing my daughter. It was a survival mechanism. Then, once I started getting comments about how much I was helping other people, that became my motivation. What I hope to get from TH-cam eventually is a source of income so that a few years from now I can leave my full-time job yet still make a living helping other people navigate through loss. ❤
Thank you, Nate. I’ve wanted to do this for a few years now, but I just finally started, and my channel is just in it’s infancy. There is so much ahead of me to learn. These are the essential questions I need to be asking myself, and the way you have articulated them is beyond helpful. Time is our most precious resource. (My first any only short was just about this!) I’m glad you have your own channel now where you have the artistic freedom and license to impact us in this way.
Ugh Nate you hit me in my feels! Just when I’m ready to give up you remind me a warrior keeps fighting or changes tactics but they never quit. My granddaughter actually was the one that told me to start a TH-cam channel (old lady that never even watched TH-cam before that). I started ours not knowing what to share eventually we landed on homesteading because wellll that’s what we do on a daily basis. I want TH-cam to show our journey, to teach our granddaughters how/why we do what we do. Our hopes is that one day (if they choose) that we will have left them a legacy of a simple but hardworking lifestyle and that TH-cam will allow them to learn from our wins and fails and we can build a glass ceiling that they can stand on that they will be able achieve even more. What I want from TH-cam, the financial freedom to be able to put all our time into building that legacy for them.
Hi there, I just looked at your channel and I can't believe you don't have 1000's of followers! 🧐You put out great, consistent content! My daughter talked me into starting a channel last year and what a journey it has been! I too love the fact that my grandkids will have this to look back on and say "Gramma was pretty cool & silly!" 🙃So much to learn yet to be successful on this platform!! Just keep on keepin on! You have one more subbie today! Blessings on your YT journey!
This is a quiet and powerful video, perhaps one of your most important ones. Thank you so much Nate. Cheers to daring greatly! To our victories and failures, to our work for the world! Cheers!
I hadn't seen you before. This is the first time that I watch your vlog (here in your own personal yt channel). From what I can read in the comments, you were part of another yt channel. I am glad to discover you as it is so rare nowadays to see a youtuber having a genuine concern towards other people. You are like a precious gem. Keep it up! ❤
Right out the gate on a Monday morning! Nate that was a very powerful message. Thank you as always for the thought provoking and honest dialogue. One of the primary reasons I routinely turn to you, is the way you engage. Even though you recorded this message for the TH-cam universe it feels like your have a 1:1 conversation. What I want from TH-cam is an outlet for sharing my passion and encouraging others to live a little freer and bolder. I don’t need to get rich but it would be nice if it could start to cover a little of the creative expenses
Dude! I am a newer subscriber, have been enjoying your videos and find so much value in your presentation that sometimes….I don’t even skip the ads, 😂. I’ve been doing lots of research, (and taking “proud of me” actions), but this was the first time I’ve ever wanted to comment on a video. Idk if you’ve thought of it this way, but your courage to allow yourself to be this vulnerable with your viewers is impactful and inspiring and beautiful man. Thank you for sharing this! ❤
Before I started my channel, I actually created a mood board of what "vibes" I want to give with my content and then also wrote a little text what I want to do with the channel and why. My idea is to use my knowledge in order to educate people who would have usually been locked out from that knowledge. Ending the gatekeeping and misinformation in my niche. I always said "I have reached my goal when you no longer need me." Which is probably bad from a business standpoint but from what I want to do by heart - it's the exact goal I have.
Oh that's awesome! Thank you for sharing. (and thank you for sharing and being supportive here and elsewhere online Tiia. I've seen your comments and posts. Thank you 🙏)
You know what I absolutely love about this video as I continue to binge through your channel? I love seeing that this was just a little over a year ago and how much your content has improved in such a short amount of time. While these videos are so helpful and these exercises are practical and useful, it's watching your growth that has been the most inspiring.
I'm at this crossroad and what you said just touched me deep within. Make so much sense to me now. I'm moving past my fears and starting my channel. Thanks Nate. Happy New Year 2024!!!
Wow! This was deep and real. Your videos have been some of my favorites, but since you've started your own channel they are my favorites. You have gotten even better. I didn't know that was possible. Lol But thank you for what you do! You are such a huge help in this journey of mine on here. I look forward to every video of yours, because I know it is going to be so beneficial. I also love that you didn't cut out the real life. Lol As a mom, I totally understand filming and interruptions and little ones waking up in the middle of the night. Great job, Nate!!!!
Nate, I just want to say you're one of the main reasons why I took the leap to start a TH-cam channel. It's seem scary at first but that has started to dissipate. I know that I will have failures along the way but, thats how I learn. I just want to help people out there.
Tears, inspired tears. Notes, many notes. Thoughts, many thoughts. Thank you! My goals with TH-cam is to share my passion and love of dogs by sharing my journey with my dogs and family, to educate and revolutionize how people go about dogs: so that dogs no longer end up in shelters. To bring joy, hope, and grace as I face my busy life knowing that others are facing their busy lives. Maybe this makes no sense, but here we are.
TH-cam is like the Alexandria Library of today, but it is so much more than that. From content creators, we can find information on how to fix things, how to make things, and how to understand concepts. We can see places we would not otherwise know existed, and we can find videos on any subject we can think of. From a tiny place on our planet, someone posts a video about what we want to know. I am so grateful for this aspect of TH-cam, and I would like to be a part of this huge library. I am not creating my videos to make money, but I love imagining that maybe someone somewhere will smile watching it, or be inspired, or entertained, or maybe even learn something. I watch you, Nate, because you make me laugh and because your research is very thoughtful. Thank you.
I was crying during that quote! I get hurt a lot every time I am told that I had to do more (I am a disabled person, and they don't understand I can't actually do more, but the worst thing is that neither I want to understand and accept my new limits, and it's always insufficient, it's always less than normal. obviously it's not like before, and being in that arena every day, fiercely and unstoppable has no value for them, they want the great performance. And I listen to them, even if it's illogical and I know than they are biased and they can't understand the new obstacles I have to face. More or less, is like you in this moment of vulnerability. It will go well soon, I am sure. And I am a little disappointed (not a critique, I only want more! I was a superfan in all the other adventure!) that there are few videos available, now at the beginning of this channel. Not a youtuber, so my answer isn't valuable for the community, I am in a small niche on other social media. But your advice is always valuable and useful in other contexts, so I am always where Nate is..
I love that you’re posting on Mondays, because it’s an invigorating start to the week! I feel ready to get things done after watching. You’re a spark plug.
when i started my brand new channel, you came right up and i never walk away uninspired drom your vids. It gives me hope and motivation to keep going! I want to help people too! I'm my first video ever i talk about having the gall to do something and i see that in you too. I hope to meet like minded people here too:)
This video right here! I have been thinking a lot about this since I started about 5 years ago to be honest but I wasn't consistent and took a couple years off. I started to be more consistent last year and unfortunately was diagnosed with cancer. So it hit home when you talked about time, what we do with that time and how precious time really is. As a Christian and somewhat of a shy person, youtube is a way for me to connect with others and it is helping me to step out of my comfort zone. I want to do something meaningful and I think youtube can help me do that. While I am a microscopic youtuber right now, my aim is to have a community where we can support and share with one another while leaving negativity at the door (too much negativity in the world as it is). A positive and healthy space where even if people disagree it is done with respect. I enjoy watching your videos, Nate. I watched you on Channel Makers. Seeing more of your personality here on your own channel and it's great!
I love that you’re diving more into the emotional side of content creation. Strategy is important but so is mental health. If either one is missing you can’t grow. What am I trying to get out off TH-cam? It’s two fold. On a selfish level I want to earn a comfortable living working for myself. I have chronic illness and cannot work for someone else due to the unpredictable symptoms I have. On a less selfish side I want to help others, to make their experience better than my own and build a community of like minded people that will ultimately help each other.
What a powerful message. My ultimate goal that I want out of TH-cam is early access to the latest games, for my voice to be heard from game developers when it comes to a review score.
I started my channel 10 years ago, based on the fact that throughout one particular video game, I kept finding weird glitches and such. It seemed like it was never going to end with how much was being found. Video game glitches had always fascinated me; I thought it was cool when I saw what they could do to a favorite game of mine, whether I grew up with it from childhood or just genuinely liked it. So, I started my journey at 13 years old and kept it running for about a couple years. I didn't quite have a solid structure when making videos, I would just kind of make them and upload them immediately after they were done, rather than scheduling them, advertising, etc. I did eventually develop burnout, and decided to slowly stop making videos altogether. I had over time learned more about video editing. I had some opportunities to do stuff that I had no clue what it was I was doing, but TH-cam tutorials helped me in the long run. I liked doing stuff that was a little more advanced, and I was wondering how I could apply that knowledge to what I did with my channel in the past. Not so much to, you know, make AAA movies or whatever, but rather to provide some more entertainment value out of just showing people various glitches you can do in a game. Something where if comic relief is necessary, I want it to be done right. (Or just something that looks pretty cool.) Now after a long time, in late 2021 I wanted to start up my channel once again, this time applying what I learned previously into the videos I wanted to make. I've since had 2 types of videos I publish, one where I show glitches in a game and how to do them step by step, and the other about a topic that is interesting and generally revolves around gaming. For instance, there's one where I talked to a developer of a game from the mid 2000's to ask him if one of the character's voice lines (the voice 'lines' being gibberish) were sampled from a Monty Python movie. It's stuff like that as well that interests me, and I hoped that others could find the same amount of intrigue. I've also learned a lot from you and other TH-camrs who want to help other aspiring TH-camrs out, showing what can be done to provide quality content, and how to keep people coming back. The knowledge you provide has genuinely been helpful, as I feel now there's a lot more structure in what I do as opposed to 10 years ago. Granted that comes at the expense of a slower upload schedule, but it's mostly been consistent nonetheless. I want to sincerely thank you for your guidance through this. I'm still learning, but I feel like I have a little more of an understanding how to take every step with the upload process.
I thought this was the best expression of who you are that I have seen. Your true humanity really shows and I wish you the best in all your current work and future endeavors. You can only have happiness as long as you follow your true calling. Your the best Nate! Keep it real.
This is one of my favorite quotes, but hearing your read it gave me goosebumps. Thanks for being raw and relatable. I am really excited for your new channel and everything you have to teach. I can relate to you a lot :)
When you said "stand your ground and face the darkness", that really resonated deep with me. It is more than just about TH-cam and numbers, it is about doing that which my own mind doubts that I can. Thanks for this video.
Wow! Nate, this video was perfect timing as I've come down to making a final decision about my own channel, I've been asking myself these questions in the last few weeks, and I've been pushed to get real and honest with myself about what I'm endeavoring to create. Your words and sharing are heart-shaking and profound, you are that seed you spoke about! Thank you
The universe is such a strange place. I am here editing a video with yours playing in the background, and in my video I found a Theodore Roosevelt campaign medal.... next thing I hear is you quoting the man. Maybe you see this message, maybe you don't, but should you. Know that you're improving many peoples lives with your efforts, mine included. I wish you the best Nate, and hope you find the success you seek. Cheers mate.
YT recommended your videos to me in the last few days, and I'm very happy I found you. The way you talk about those subjects is so different and enlightening from every other TH-camr out there. You are reaching your goals, it's happening. As for my answers, I am creating short movies in a different way, as a way to express myself. I am using TH-cam to express my feelings through my movies, and I know that those movies can touch other people as well and evoke something inside, to connect more with their feelings, and find their way in life. I want to reach more people, but right now I didn't find the way.
I think this video made it clear what mine lack… It’s just showing myself as a human being. It’s just hard for me to be totally myself while not yet having a reactive audience, i guess i’m just scared of being rejected! Which is paradoxical because what i want from youtube is to make people feel better with their uniqueness, to find peace and wellbeing. Thank you for opening my eyes !
When I started my channel it was about documenting and showcasing different models and kit and showing how they are built, sort of like if you didn't have the instructions for the kit, you could look up the kit and see how it is built. I wanted to add my own artistic flair to these builds and so far I have done this with over 70 builds on my channel to date! I have see TH-cam as an outlet for creativity and as a resource for others to learn, study and showcase talents.
I am so glad your videos are growing because I found your channel and have been binging your videos. So much knowledge and presented so simple. I have implemented a lot of what you share, so really thank you! For my channel, I want to create a community. A space to share my journey as a ceramic artist and create a space to encourage other artists/beginners/whoever.
“I don’t have time to not be doing.” This video resonated with me deeply, but no line more than this. What’s TH-cam to me? I’ve always thought of it as a springboard to reach an audience who would be interested in buying my mystery novels. I make videos about how to write mysteries because, well, I knew I could do those well, and I figured the audience of mystery writers would have a large overlap with the audience of mystery readers. There’s always been a tension there, though. Spend time on my books? Or spend time making more videos? I don’t want to grow the channel, just to grow the audience, then fail to provide books for the audience to actually buy. And it gets more complicated. Because over time, as I’ve tried harder and harder to provide quality content for writers, I’ve fallen kind of in love with breaking down, and teaching, mystery know-how. I LIKE being able to say, “here are the 5 types of clues,” or “here’s how you investigate a cold case.” It’s fun! It’s made me a better writer. It’s been kind of awesome. All of this is an extremely long-winded way of saying I don’t know exactly what I hope to get from TH-cam. Is it still a tool toward a career, or IS it the career, or is it a small segment of a sprawling megalith of revenue streams that I’m now calling my career? Really appreciate the sincerity in this video. It’s one of my faves.
Wow!! That apple analogy is so powerful. My motives are exactly the same. My niche is Gardening and I started my channel in memory of my Mom. I am so happy every time someone says 'thank you'. Making the money cones second. Bless you and your family my brother. 😊
That Teddy Roosevelt quote is an amazing bit of advice. I’ve recently been sharing some projects on Reddit (soon to be here in my channel) about 3D printed Legos. The first draft wasn’t perfect and people picked at some things. My first thought was “Could you replicate?” I’m on TH-cam to share knowledge and cool projects but it’s difficult when people’s first instinct is to pick you apart.
I get that. The thing is to not take it personally. Some people are just sour at that moment. I try to respond with humor. If someone gets nasty, I just block them. A good inspiration is the comment guidelines on the New thinking Allowed channel. Some creators get caught up in battling trolls publicly and it drags others in who like to argue. It ruins a channel and its livestreams. If it’s just an idle nitpick, think of it as “engagement”. None of us have time to deal with strangers being nasty.
@@LilyGazou I’m usually pretty good at responding cordially. I’ll be open to people’s input and have a conversation about it. I’ve only been doing the TH-cam for about 11 months but it’s amazing at the negativity.
This. Any time I start to feel a little burnt out I ask similar questions to myself and find the core of what I really want and need from YT. It’s all about the journey right? Love your content Nate! Thanks for all you do brotha.
Great stuff Nate. Good to find you here. I live by Roosevelt’s La Sorbonne speech so i totally second you on that one. Having a vision and a purpose are key and the purpose of my channel is to give people the inspiration and courage to dare greatly. Thanks for all your advice!
This is brilliant, Nate. I started my channel after a couple of years incapacitated with a back injury. I wanted to see the roads and scenery of places I'd been around Europe thinking I'd not ever see them again. I watched @lasefrankie driving the autobahn routes in Germany and it brought back fond memories, along with train cab rides showing beautiful European scenery. I live in Ireland, so this is my palette for videos for those who want to evoke memories or those incapacitated that may never get out into the world again. I'm slowly making ground. All the best to you and my fellow subscribers. Stay safe out there.
I love this Nate, I've been watching your channel (you also on channelMakers) for a while and usually don't comment that quickly, but this resonated strongly with me right now, because I have been facing this questions for a few weeks now. I started my channel in February this year after 4+ years of procrastination and I was over the moon that I just got started. But since the procrastination was about what content I want to shoot, what do I like etc. That comes up again now I started to get some experience with TH-cam. The question of why do I want to make TH-cam videos? I catch myself sometimes even lying to myself about my reasons to just keep going, but I find with a full time job and the schedule I've set for myself uploading to TH-cam, it has become difficult to justify the time spend on my videos and I feel it's sometimes negleticing my excitement for making videos and thus my creative input. In short, I struggle with this question and would love to hear from you if you have any advice or tips that could help clarify the why behind your videos and what you love to do. This has been a question that's unanswered for me for many many years. That being said, still loving the TH-cam journey, some answers to the questions currently, is to: - Create a legacy library of all my recipes I love to make on TH-cam and share that with others. - Help home cooks become better and more confident in the kitchen. - Make people smile when they watch me or eat their food through my recipes. - Start conversation around food and culture. - Provide for my future endevours and my family via TH-cam and other streams of income instead of 1 salary via my employer right now. - Making videos that inspire, awe, entertain people ( not so much cooking channel related, but it's an idea I have for the future). Thank you for being you and creating your own channel, I love watching your videos, they are all valueable in some way or form to me and I believe many others. Regards, Tim
Nate, you sound like another great teacher - Patrick Lencioni; great minds think alike. Very heartfelt video, an authentic and honest, solid reflection of you. No effort without error or shortcoming....
I recently had someone comment on one of videos saying they had just come across my channel and they had never tried sewing but my videos had inspired her to start. That comment hit me. I was like this is why I do this. Not for just views and extra income but to inspire and help others to start their sewing journey. Thank you Nate for all your advice in helping me achieve this goal.
Another GREAT one Nate!! I started my TH-cam channel about 2 months ago when I started my Sustainable Travel Advisor business. My niche is sustainable travel and believe there are not many on YT that do the same thing I want to do, teach and get clients through seeing me and building trust. I will be reaching out to you in about 3 weeks for your assistance through your offer I saw in a video a couple weeks ago. We are traveling to the Mediterranean for two weeks and I am very much looking forward to getting media to use in videos when we return, as well as doing some shorts while we are there. I know from watching my "competition", that I am much more likely to get new subscribers with actual travel videos. Every day I learn something new by watching my "travel" competitors' videos. Thanks again for your insight and teaching. Have a great day!
*And to answer your questions What do I want TH-cam to do for me? - I eventually want it to make some money but not necessarily money that I would quit my job for but enough to fund my gaming hobby itself. So for example buying the games I play, buying cool tech that I love to use on my workspace. What do I want to do with TH-cam? - Share my passion and make interesting laid back videos that hopefully people will enjoy. I've noticed there's always so much polarizing talk in gaming and I want to be one of the voices that can maybe discuss the bright side of gaming and some of the amazing storytelling we have seen in video games
You're one of my favorite strangers on YT, because I like who you are as a person and appreciate how much all of this matters to you. That's the reason I watch, and I'll continue to watch as long as you continue being Nate! re: your questions, my answers aren't as profound as others, I'm sure. But they're genuine. I have three channels. Gaming (this one), food review, and film/tv review, so what they bring me is very different. The common thread is that I just want to share my thoughts and my joy, and YT is a great outlet for that. I want to share my love of gaming as an adult, especially indie games, since brilliant, artistic work is often overshadowed by the latest flashy thing. I play all the usual suspects too in my own time like Call of Duty, Final Fantasy, etc. But on the indie front, I've played so many games that stayed with me and had really powerful messages or just imaginative expression that no one covered. I want to share the love, talent and creativity put into those games and hopefully, others will take something from it like I did, or at least discover something refreshing and cool. For the food reviews, it's about sharing my honesty. Sponsorships make it hard to tell if a review is genuine, but it's not a huge deal if it's a hair dryer etc. When it's something we need to survive, it's extra important to be able to trust what you're seeing. The pandemic changed a lot, including how we feed ourselves, and a lot of folks are too broke to play games with their meals lol So I wanted to post sincere food reviews, focusing mostly on delivery services, to help people make the best choice without worrying that I'm just saying stuff for clicks or money. I genuinely want my reviews to be helpful BECAUSE they're honest and informative, and so far, people appreciate that. For my tv/film reviews, it's just sharing a passion. It's my creative industry as a storyteller, so I'm always excited to talk about media whether anyone listens or not. What I hope to get out of YT is just for it to pay for itself. I'm not trying to make a career out of it, but my channels all revolve around things that cost money. It's not sustainable to put as much time into it as I want because I literally can't afford to. Nevermind finding time to begin with as someone who works full time. So if any of my channels brought in enough money to pay for what I put into them, I'd be happy!
Looking back through some of your earlier videos to glean more gems. Two great questions but the reason that prompted commenting is the Teddy Roosevelt quote. An all time favourite. On more than one occasion I have shared it in its entirety in speeches - those are words to live by, content creators and otherwise. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
Hi Nate. Thanks for asking these and providing the open opportunity for us to practice answering them in a public forum. My short version: I want to help readers unearth the treasure troves of books from small publishers, and help small publishers find much-needed support from readers. Long version: I've known from the start it that my channel would be an uphill battle (for personal reasons and for wider cultural reasons). It is my deepest held belief that one of the main (only?) things that sets us humans apart from other creatures is our ability to tell stories. I like to believe that imaginative storytelling is perhaps our species's greatest contribution to the universe. My favorite form of storytelling is the written word, specifically fiction. But the way our society is structured, there is some serious gatekeeping to whose stories get published and marketed widely. In the US, huge corporate publishers dominate the publishing landscape. These behemoths flood social media with their not-very-innovative books, and so a curious reader would have no idea of the treasure troves to be found by just digging a bit under the surface to find the small, independent publishers. These smaller publishers are the ones taking the biggest literary risks. They are often non-profits, which removes the need for them to worry about turning a big profit on a best-selling but mediocre book. But many of these small presses are struggling! There is a huge movement to "shop local" and that often extends to readers shopping from their local bookstore. But that "shop local" movement has somehow missed small publishers...people go to their local bookstore, but then pick up the biggest bestseller from a big name celebrity author. I want to be the channel who digs under the surface. I want to help readers who are sick of seeing the same (rather boring) books all over the place. I want to be a place where readers come to find something new and exciting. I want to help authors who are writing incredible, ground-breaking work that is ignored by large publishers. And most importantly, I want to give back to these small publishers who have given me so, SO much joy. The trick is...how can I make money doing that? LOL! Not exactly MAKE money, but at least get a little something back for my time to help support my young family. Thanks, Nate, for your candor and creativity. All the best, Sarah
Love this!!! New sub (using my other personal account, and maybe even my business account which I hardly ever use for youtube - just bc you deserve the extra subs!)
Took me far longer than id like to admit to get the apple analogy, but I absolutely love it! I want TH-cam to help me help others, I get so frustrated when I see people struggling, and I just want to show them there is an easier, simpler way. In only a few steps they can create the thing they wanted to create! TH-cam helps me share my teachings, helps me reach more people, have a bigger impact, it also helps me lead the life I could never have dreamed of living. I am eternally grateful that this technology exists!
Nate. Thank you very much for this video. This is really thought -provoking and powerful on many different levels. It's important for us as content creators to take deep dives like this every so often. Thank you for poking us in the right direction.
Nate, I'm from Brazil. I don't speak English, but I can understand it well. My little channel had been abandoned for almost a year and I didn't have much intention of returning. But after finding your channel and watching several of your videos I'm motivated again. Thanks
I am re-watching your videos and taking notes and I must have missed this the first time around, I know this quote and it has impacted the way I think about things immensely! Dare greatly!!
Following along with your guide currently to start my channel up. This is my first time and I'm nervous as hell. I have a 5 year old son and I don't want to waste time either. I could die today. Thank you for you channel. For your advice. Your time. And your kindness.
Spookily Nate I had a conversation with a fellow YT'er. And one of the phrases I used was the 'Seeds in an Apple ...' quote. My goals mirror yours entirly. I've taught and shared my love of art for many years in a tradional class room. Now I enjoy teaching in an online arena. Even more spookily is your quote 8:23 One of my favourire mantras and the reason why I'll always be trying to grow as a teacher and creator. Keep on making inspirational and informative videos Nate. The world need to hear more of you. 😎😎
To share my stories, and to be a positive influence through those stories, those are my primary reasons. Secondary would be to make a little money to support continuing with my first two answers. Time is very precious, perhaps the most important message in this video. Thanks so much for sharing your time with me.
Nate this was inspiring. I’m actually rethinking g that right now. The last two weeks I have been grieving my mom who died on the 22 of July. This has lead me to think as you have and realize life is too short. My thoughts are still a bit scattered now but I know that I need to put the work to get to the answers.
Thanks for your videos. I've recently started doing content on TH-cam and had to face so many problems that made my first videos tank. It really helped to listen to your videos about wanting to do good. It reminds me that this is precisely why I'm doing videos. Keeping that purpose in mind helps me tremendously to roll up my sleeves and try to do better/more watchable videos even as I'm putting in many hours and getting little views/subscribers in return so far. So, thanks for teaching us about analytics, tactics, etc., and for reminding us that those things are tools/information to help us get better at creating content, but they're not the end goal.
Thanks Nate, for always keeping it real and grounded. This is why I continue to follow you. Striving for the purest motives and aspirations, in my mind, is the greatest form of nobility of the human existence. Keep it up!
It was about having fun and sharing my life experiences. And then I got monetized. Cha Ching. Making money and filming my motorcycle rides. Good stuff.
Thanks for this Nate. I want to help people feel better and have better control over their emotions and themselves. I love making videos, but I want TH-cam to help me grow my coaching business so I can help more people 1on1. There is a lot of suffering this world, but when people are taught how to, they can mitigate a lot of it.
It’s taken me a very long time with lot experience in different arenas and coming full circle, I know I am here to help people find there way. There are so many lost and suffering souls on this planet who are awakening spiritually or looking for something to believe in, and I have been there too. I would like to be able to monetize at some point to put $ back into my work here to make better videos and to have a little left over to spare and share. What I teach and share here has been life changing for me and I am here to give back. Thanks, Nate, for asking! 🙏🏻💫✨
The reason I started my first channel was the ability to reach way more people than through my day job. That first channel educates individuals and family members about addiction and provides resources to help relieve suffering and learn compassion (rather than judgement). All of which is based on a combination of my own personal experience, professional experience, and education. My 2nd channel began as more of a documentary of sorts. My husband retired and we decided to move to France. So, I began creating videos to document our experience moving from the US to France and then it organically evolved into educating and then entertaining. We didn't realize there were so many people interested in doing the same thing we did/are doing. Clearly, 2 totally different niches. Yet, I enjoy creating content for both. One educates, the other entertains. I think, at this point, what I want from both of them is to continue creating content while also maintaining a healthy work/life balance. This, as you know, can be very challenging! Thanks for the video, Nate. Love your channel (s). Especially like the quote at the end, which I first heard from Brene Brown as a part of one of her presentations on shame. Love it ❤
Wonderfully done! We started in this TH-cam journey to grow in our personal relationship (husband and wife team) a career we can grow together. And lean on one another when another when things get tough. As for the future we want to share our experiences, meet new and wonderful people, and obviously make some money along the way to support all of it. Not on a mission to be become wealthy but a journey of joy and experiences
Hi Nate, I really like how you can make raw content that looks and sounds so good! To me TH-cam is a way to grow, learn and have fun sharing this growth and learning while at the same time improving my audience’s and my own personal finances. And it warms the heart knowings that even small changes that my viewers implement in their choices can have extra ordinary impacts on their lives!
I really enjoy and appreciate these more vulnerable and personal videos…views, subs, technical how-to’s, etc don’t capture the heart and soul of this kind of thing the same as these do These are two questions I am working on answering
The time thing really hits home with me. I’m sick of wasting my time with my day job. I want my efforts to mean something to others, but also myself. I want a life of positivity, adventure, and to focus on the good things to world has to offer. Thanks for this video!
2) I want to be able to use TH-cam as one tool among many while i think, play, experiment in public, with a service-oriented mindset. I find “the work” satisfying, and just want to keep doing it.
Nice twist! Very introspective and the 14 takes are appreciated. For me, as I approach retirement, I have more free time. I thought I could casually build up a following and eventually monetize to supplement my retirement. Not specifically worried about money, I'm all set, but a bit extra while having fun seems worthwhile to me. I enjoy the craft of my niche most but I also enjoy learning the art of crafting a watchable video, which of course takes practice. I'm not stressing about anything, just want to have fun and share that. Furthermore, my niche involves some travel to fun places and events and meeting people which is always a blast in my hobby, so ultimately my reasoning about TH-cam is "well why the heck not? It might even eventually pay!"
Yeah bro! Do it! Go for it, man. You're better prepared than anyone. I swear, that quote made me cry at the end. I've never heard it before, but I came to that very same conclusion as a result of some spiritual journeys. Nature tells the story of time.
I'd love to say I hope this will become my career... I honestly, just want to know that one day, someone will need to be cheered up, not feel alone in the world... I hope that on that day... I can put a smile on their face. Neighbors helping Neighbors!!
I’m inherently a teacher, and as a teacher, I’ve always thought it was crucial to be a constant learner. Your passion to help people resonates with me. I taught elementary school before going to law school, and finally found a passion working for Disney. Now, I hope to combine a love for both travel and teaching to help people learn from my mistakes and experiences. I’m driven to provide people with accurate information so they find Magic and wonder in travel, as I do. Also, the role of Mr. Beast was taken, so I’m going with the teaching role.
Nate -- thank you SO much for this video!! I need to think about these myself...but I've definitely stuck with THIS channel (failed/gave up on previous ones lol) because of the things you mentioned in the video. Understanding how valuable time is and how I wanted to spend it was and is my motivation. Especially when it seems like having patience is the only thing TO do sometimes. Again, thank you!!
My why has always been to help others with their music by leveraging an audience and my relationship to it. As well as the financial freedom to take care of those around me. Combined with my passion for music and learning how to do TH-cam the right way, these the reasons I keep going every day. And I'm thankful for people like you're who are bringing me closer Nate.
Thanks Nate, The Why is definitely proving really helpful. I know from being a freelance illustrator those times when working away you ask yourself "why am I doing X?" & sometimes coming up blank. There will be difficult times in any endeavour when you lack discipline but having a purpose is huge. Anyway here's my answers: What You Want TH-cam to Do For You/Your Business? To get more eyes on my artwork To show the person behind the art Create additional income What Do You Want to Do With TH-cam? Make people laugh while creating fun, quirky illustrations & imparting my knowledge - not just in illustration but in all aspects of being an illustrator (business side). Show people the real me while being entertaining as well as inspirational.
I'd like to know: what are YOUR answers?
(also you're doing a great job everyone!)
Here you go:
THIS PART struck me so hard too! thanks for the time stamp!
I’m truly sorry for your loss. It’s beautiful that you’re turning your loss into something that helps others.
I’m truly sorry for your loss. It’s beautiful that you’re turning your loss into something that helps others.
CANT EVEN IMAGINE💔💔THX U 4 SHARING UR STORY && TRYING UR BEST 2 HELP OTHER PPL💯🖤🖤
How you have turned your loss into help for others is so commendable
I’m so sorry… my sister lost two kids to cancer and it’s probably the hardest thing anyone could go through. Good luck to achieving your goals.
Hey Angie! ❤
Same here. I soon as my focus shifted towards helping other (in a healthy and honest way for myself) everything changed for the better.
This is a quiet and powerful video, perhaps one of your most important ones. Thank you so much Nate. Cheers to daring greatly! To our victories and failures, to our work for the world! Cheers!
I am always inspired when I began to watch you 😊 Thank you.
Keep it up! ❤
thank you for sharing this vulnerable video. i can feel how genuine you are without even trying
Thank you 🙏)
Yes I m doing a mood board too...best idea ever
Like a chick fil a French fry and ketchup, TH-cam is the perfect vehicle to share with others the things I need to hear myself.
I’m planning to stay my channel in the next week or 2. Thanks for your authenticity
Well dang, thank you! Means a lot to hear that from you
I couldn't agree more. I already loved Nate's videos. Now I love them even more. I love seeing real Nate moments.
You have given me inspiration and direction and corrected my path as a hopeful person. I feel like I can succeed with this template and the planning.
Nate, I just came across your channel and want to thank you for your passion. It's inspiring.
Keep going. Your journey is inspiring and I wish you health, happiness, and strength as you recover from cancer.
🙏🏻❤️
@@mrsdesireerose Thank you!😊
I love that you’re diving more into the emotional side of content creation.
(Or just something that looks pretty cool.)
Now after a long time, in late 2021 I wanted to start up my channel once again, this time applying what I learned previously into the videos I wanted to make.
I really like the passion you have, so clear in everything you said, it's refreshing :)
Nate you're a champ. Got nothing but gems from all your videos. God Bless and all the best for the new year.
"Dare Greatly" is in a frame above my computer, as a reminder to ignore the critics and stay in the arena. Thanks for being an inspiration, Nate!
I've been following you my entire youtube journey. Thank you for putting out great content!
That being said, still loving the TH-cam journey, some answers to the questions currently, is to:
- Create a legacy library of all my recipes I love to make on TH-cam and share that with others.
That’s so great! Keep it up Tim
Nate, you sound like another great teacher - Patrick Lencioni; great minds think alike. Very heartfelt video, an authentic and honest, solid reflection of you. No effort without error or shortcoming....
Very powerful... I felt the genuine message!! I loved the simple From the Heart energy and it validated my motivation to push forward. Thank u 💓
If I were asked to choose a gladiator to put in, you would stand at the top my friend, great video Nate!
Exactly. Thank you, Nate! 😊
*And to answer your questions
What do I want TH-cam to do for me?
All the best,
Sarah
You won me over. 👍
Love this!!! New sub (using my other personal account, and maybe even my business account which I hardly ever use for youtube - just bc you deserve the extra subs!)
@@bbreak that is so kind of you!! thank you!
@@LilyGazou thank you!! that's very kind of you to say!
I LOVE where you are taking this Channel and your life Nate! Very intentional and what the world needs! Bravo 🎉
Your videos are really helping me get perspective of what I'm trying to do. Thank you.
Perfect Monday-morning video. Thank you. 😊 Watching you develop anew is exciting.
I want TH-cam to provide me with the financial means to continue to share the beautiful things I discover in this world.
This vids never let me down, keep it up Nate!
Condolences and very best wishes to you.
I love that you understand the heart of the creator! Working to translate what’s in my heart into purposeful videos . 🎉
I want to inspire people, and be able to support half of our household needs as far as money goes. We are well on our way, thank you Nate!!!
Thank you so much for making this video Nate
Love it ❤
You're one of the few youtube tips channels I will always click when I get the notification 😊
Yay! Thank you!
I really enjoy and appreciate these more vulnerable and personal videos…views, subs, technical how-to’s, etc don’t capture the heart and soul of this kind of thing the same as these do
These are two questions I am working on answering
Wow, can you deliver a line. That poem delivery was chef's kiss.
Hope everything's great man. Looking forward to what comes up in the future
Thankyou so much for the video Nate! So inspirational and i loved the Roosevelt quote! 😊
