Nate formally with “Chanel Makers” left to do is own channel, which is doing amazing by the way. There will always be a need for updated channel advise due to the fact the algorithm is always changing. I mean look how YT is now begging people to do short form vs long form in order to compete with TT. Social media is always changing, just like everything else in life. Nate was and still is The Best and I find his new channel has a lot to offer.
Yeap.. I find myself watching his video over Channel Makers now (I stopped watching Channel Makers). It goes to show how building the channel correctly is important. The audience, the community, they follow because of the person and not because of what the channel has to offer.
It can definitely be a bit of of burn out watching video after video about how to get more subs, views etc ... and the information is regurgitated quite a lot. I've made over 200 videos, have learnt a lot but get pitiful views at the moment so have decided to up my game in terms of thumbnails, titles, editing (mainly cut shots, slow zooms, more B-Roll etc ...), better topics and improved delivery and spend much more time producing the best possible videos I can with my current skillset. I follow the first 3 groups, yet to hear of the last 2 creators. Passive income to me is the NZ stock market and eventually TH-cam for a side hustle. Thanks for your honest take on the topic :)
1 thing you can focus to upskill is storytelling. Super important when it comes to long form videos. If you think about it, most videos that work tells a great story.
You are talking real bro. Good points right there! I myself been creating contents on youtube for almost a year. Watched dozens of growth channels, And there are a few crucial things I learnt, first phase: 1. Niche down 2. Quantity over quality 3. Consistency Those things you need to do to get more exposure, BUT From my personal experience, If you just solely focus on quantity instead of quality it will hurt you in the long run. Why? Let’s say you posted a video a day for 6 months, that’s 180 videos in total. One of your videos has a chance to get viral, and it will get viral guaranteed. You’ll get tons of watchtime, subscribers etc. Your sbscribers/viewers are mostly likely going to check out your other contents. If they don’t like it because of the quality, it will start hurting your channel. So what’s next then? It’s time to shift to Quality over Quantity. with the current audience you have, you need to produce quality content that they will enjoy, something new, something fresh to keep them entertained. But to create quality content you need more time. I think this is very important for the growth. So second phase: 1. Quality over quantity but after a while, your audience get bored, a lot of other channel also in the same niche like you, your views go down and it’s very discouraging. It’s time for third phase: 1. Personality 2. Community I can’t say much because I’m in this phase right now, and so far so good. Been doing live streams, building community on discord and etc. It’s something fresh for me, my audience. I know it’s not gonna be easy, but I will keep on going. Btw hope you guys have a great day. Cheers 🔥
Great details! 21.5K subs after 1 year of posting is already a success imo. If it was me, I will say quantity, quality and personality falls into 1 category. I would try and improve each video by injecting my personality into it. I wouldn't pump 1 daily, that would burn me out, but my idea of consistency is just once a week and I'll produce the best quality I can with the time I have. The journey is a lot slower but I've been burnt out before in content creation and I wasted a couple of months trying to build back that momentum. Burnout essentially killed quality, quantity and community. How'd you find building community on discord? I've been meaning to try that but not too familiar with that platform.
Life has a funny way of changing our course. Things happen (good/bad), but it doesn't mean it's a negative thing. We all need a change at some point and it can be difficult, but we all need to do what's right for us. I wish all parties the best ❤
I fall into the category of 1 viral and nothing much else for views. It is frustrating. But, I'm now using my channel in a way that works for me. I cover the topics that interest me and tie in to my supplement business. i.e. pursuing and sharing my passions and interests. It's surprising the amount of interesting people you meet behind the scenes even with just a few views. I've been lucky in that my topics bring out discussion from people with more or different expertise than I. So, I learn. And, I'm grateful for the positive response/sales of my products.
Doing what works for you is slow and many would disagree because it is just now ‘fast’ enough. But what I find is doing this your way maintains consistency. As long as your video quality improves, your storytelling improves and your title/thumbnail improves, there’s nothing stopping you from doing the topics you enjoy.
I loved your video, and especially loved the very last part when you say, for us creators to share and open ourselves a little to our viewers, that was a piece of very special advice, that it is in accord with my next video I will publish, that was such a nice coincidence to share. thank you for your great work.
Great video! I really enjoy your analysis of TH-cam Guru channels and how they shift their strategies, why they do it, and the results. It really gives me an incredible amount of context. Instead of just “the made a different video and grew a bigger audience.” I love your opinions as well because they connect with the emotional aspect of content creation!
Thanks! I think TH-cam is more than just learning a niche. 1 of the best things about TH-cam is seeing the life of others and learning from their experience. It doesn’t have to be narrowed down to a niche!
Wow, cool video, good that someone made a video about all youtube gurus :) In fact to make better videos you need to learn things like after effects and storyteling but those gurus only are saying that you need to make better videos and not really teach you to do so.
I am so happy to have found your channel! Maybe I shouldn't say this, but I am soooo glad you are Asian (I am too). Not many asian content creators in this space, if any, not really that recognized sadly... I will keep supporting your channel. Keep it up!

Your conclusion is spot on! If I’m honest I subscribed to you in another video because of your personality. I don’t really need another channel on how to build TH-cam on my list, but I enjoyed your persona and subscribed. Now if only I can get over myself and apply the same knowledge to me 😅 Thank you for your work :)

Nice video Kevin, I follow most of the gurus you mention. I do think the personality piece is a secret sauce and a reason why not only people subscribe but a reason why they are repeat viewers of content 😊
Yes! And I find myself drawn in to the person rather than the channel. When that person has established themselves on social media, I became interested in knowing their point of view even if they go out of topic. I want to build my channel in that direction. I think that's what we all should learn most!
Hey Kevin, Great channel. Channel Makers just put out a blog post on the channel makers website detailing EVERYTHING regarding Nate's split and some terrible things Nate did. I would love to hear your updated thoughts after you read the document. Maybe a good video?
I’m following Nate. I can see he is gathering data from his viewers and considering it. I’ve watched hours of the other gurus but it feels like I’m at a tent revival. “You too can make 7 figures if you follow my program. “
well, you won't believe how many people fall for it! The easiest way to get people to sign up is by triggering their emotional being and making them feel left out. Personally, I can't do that, I only promise what I can deliver but that is also why I can't sell my course lol..
This video allowed me to give you a sub. I had a look at some other very nice videos (e.g. the AI sucks at mid-roll ads). Your personality idea works. Why didn‘t you mentioned Think Media in this video. Would be interesting how you think about their development over the last years. Btw: I‘m part of the VRMfam for years, not active though.
Thanks for the sub. Think Media is in a different ball game. They work together as a team rather than focusing on an individual as the face of the channel so bringing them in seems disconnected. Besides, talking about them would make the video way too long, I have a lot to say about them! I'm not sure what VRMfam is.. sorry
Think Media, Roberto Blake, and several others that you didn’t mention. I find them very useful resources. But of course you have one part education and the other part is your own work
Great video Kevin. Been following you for two years now. Always appreciate your creativity and out of the box style of thinking for video ideas. Glad to see you still growing
Great ideas and great analysis. By the way, another guy who's killing it is Grow Your Gaming Channel. And yes Nick and Nate are real deal gurus. I noticed that about Annie Dube also. She gave good tips a year ago but it's clear to me after watching all these gurus that Annie never actually understood how she got successful, so she can't replicate it and now she is just repeating what the real gurus are saying because she doesn't have the understanding of TH-cam growth to do original insights beyond the modest number of original tips she shared a year ago. Very sad.
Yeah that’s right. There’s an element of good timing mixed with luck for her success. Not that I am taking away from her her hard work but she needs to acknowledge that she doesn’t actually know it all. I don’t really enjoy that sort of creator. Another channel you might be interested in is Joshua Mayo. He has a few ‘how to run a TH-cam channel’ videos that are extremely good.
@@KevinChee thanks. Joshua Mayo is amazingly successful. >750K subscribers in 2 years! He's killing it. Too bad I'm not interested in running a personal finance channel lol. He's come a long way. His intro video says he's not interested in selling a course and he doesn't like that -- but in his banner he has a link to....a course. People grow in their goals so it's ok, just interesting.
Its been 5 months since this video was made and if my algorithm is anything to go by the youtube growth gurus are still going strong, Nate especially is doing excellent on his own channel.
I'm seeing a decline in generic YT growth gurus. Just look like Channel Makers and Movavi. Nate has established himself as the go-to person instead of what the channel represents so most of his subscribers jumped from Channel Makers to his channel. Personally, I find it a little unethical on Nate's end and it felt like it was planned out. my 2 cents.
Super video! You've done a great job of bringing TH-cam stardom into prospective. It saddens me that channels make promises to the masses that everyone can build a money earning famous TH-cam channel. That just isn't the case for the huge majority. At the same time, anyone who enjoys the process can be motivated by watching your video and contemplating their next ideas. tHank you for a great video.
All the YT channels that made it are probably the top 1-5%. It just seems easy because YT keeps pushing those videos into our feed and skew our thinking. Unfortunately, the hardest part for most channels is to realise the journey isn't easy.
Katie Stecklie is one to follow plus Trena Little and Marley Jaxx. My own channel is beginning to take off because I'm focusing on a wider content scope recently.
Whenever I talk about the economy (after all I'm a small business channel) my views and subscribers jump dramatically. But I've also done well sharing a vlog about my own life of living in two capital cities such as Sydney and Melbourne at the same time.
@@KevinChee well I'm in a wide area topic. My videos cover a wide range of personal and business topics. But when you talk about money making you're not limited either.
@@KevinChee Well, I'm not sure if I would call it "building a persona", because everybody already is one 😃. But I know of course, what you mean 👍 and I agree. It's marketing of the own persona. I write this, because I think, people are very good in detecting if somebody wants to be a persona, or if she/he really is. For instance Matti and Teppo... No offence, I like them both, but one of them is clearly more successful... It was nice, chatting with you.
You are really good at what you do.. first time im visiting your channel.. you definitely deserve my sub, and I wish you the best ,and I will stay connected because I love the way you analyze things.. also, I'm a fan of Nate black for the same reason. He is great at analyzing information for the audience !!!
@@KevinChee Hi Kevin, yes I do follow CM and Nate Black - I subscribe to both channels and I'm a member of CM's Project 24 course (I'm "Birdy" over there). How about you? When Nate decided to leave CM (and before he released @Nateblack, there was another creator who analyzed the loss of Nate on CM and she wasn't very complimentary to CM (which I thought was unfair). What I like about your video is that you don't criticize anyone or jump on a bandwagon but blend your analysis with good advice and give a really fresh approach. I also learned about some gurus who I had not followed, yet. If you are over at Project 24, please say hi over there. I like what you are doing!
@@shearfunsewing I am not part of Project 24 and tbh, I have not heard nor know anything about Project 24 until Nate's last CM video, which is why it was a shock to me that CM is part of Project 24. How is it doing for you so far?
Interesting video. While all channels might involve personality, not all channel involve a personality. It will be interesting to see what becomes of Channel Makers without Nate.
Views from their new videos seems to have stopped. I’m following to see the change but I gotta admit, it made me feel less interested now that Nate isn’t the face of the channel
@@KevinCheeI feel the same way. Why would I want to randomly watch a dude I don’t know in new videos? I’m used to hearing Nate’s perspective based off off his experience.
@@timsmythfilmsandanimations Nate's channel is getting lots of momentum from the YT algorithm, probably triggered from viewers from CM. I think the mistake CM made is to not have Nate promote Project 24 that much in the last 2-3 years (which has been CM's main goal). It made it look like Nate is the sole person of CM and now that he's left, he brings along his viewers with him.
It’s funny how all these creators you watch I watched too for channel growth and nothing worked 😂 And I agree with going viral. Too many people have died out after going viral which sucks 😩
Wow your analysis is so well done and eye opening 👍 I started following Cathrin after finding her channel from search as that time she was covering obscure topics in blogging...with the high quality and energy style that many have grown to love. She kept churning videos after videos even though that time she was having few hundred views per video. Then when her channel blew up when she started making TH-cam growth topics ...that was when she decided to pivot. Initially I was not interested to make videos as I was a blogger but when one keep watching her videos, her vibe and energy would rub in. After she pivoted again (from TH-cam growth to vlogging), I watched less of her content but each time if she ever talk about TH-cam, her views would skyrocket. I admire her for her courage to stand up for what she believes in. Income School- which owns Channel Makers...I also started watching videos by Ricky and Jim in the early days when they were just 2 chilldhood friends sharing on blogging with proof of success as they practiced what they preached. Eventually after making tonnes of high effort videos for long time their channel finally took off. But what works in blogging would not work in TH-cam. In TH-cam, it is often hard to explain the outcome and as you mentioned in your other video, 2 creators creating similar videos would have different results. For Annie Dube, initially she had like a cult like following. I kinda stop watching her videos after she discouraged people to make Shorts and when Nate pointed out (he always had stats to back up what he said), the lashback he got made me felt uneasy. It is interesting to see how different creators have changed.. Really enjoyed your analysis, you are really good at this 🙏
Yeah. I think she filed a complained and got Nate to take down his video. It wasn’t very mature of her and I think she’s wrong about shorts too. But anyways, everything on TH-cam is just an opinion so I didn’t mind too much but it did made me watch less of her videos. I’ve only learned about income school when Nate left. Shows how much Nate represents channel maker and not the other way around.
The thing you said about ppl being lazy and want easy money is so true lol most politicians keep using this too hook most of ppl too vote for them too the thing is ppl believe that is true and dont know that they leave important information behind 😂
You earned a sub simply because you mentioned Nate. Got turned off by that Dube person when she filed a copyright strike against Nate when he did a review of one of her videos which was just too extreme in my opinion. Nate did a review, he didn't steal her content. In my opinion she's just full of herself.
Yeah, that was a few years ago when Nate shut Dube down for hating on Shorts. At that time, Nate sub count was around 20k or so and Dube was over 100k. She stopped growing a long time ago while Nate is doing well. I think Dube is just young and took it too seriously. A little immature at that time I would say.
Yeap.. I mentioned that in this video too. He started his own channel and I can’t wait to see what he has in store. It doesn’t have to be TH-cam growth related! That’s the power of personality and relatability
Yeah he is, although, he did built up years of audience then a part of them transferred across to his channel. I believe the momentum he gained from that pushed up his average view and put him on the spot in the YT algorithm
@@KevinCheeHi, Nathan Black is doing well with over 15K views per video on his new 40K subs channel, while the Channel Makers channel with 2 hosts is averaging less than 2K views per video despite 233K subs. Ironic! Nathan was the heart of that channel before they switched hosts as he preferred to leave. He did heavy analysis on a lot of his topics to give great info.
Yeah, he was the heart of channel makers. I've heard some stories about his time with CM and how things went and I wasn't too impress. Still, all the best to both channels.

So refreshing to see this perspective. Slow growth with positive, loyal followers really isn’t highlighted enough.

You are talking real bro. Good points right there!
I myself been creating contents on youtube for almost a year. Watched dozens of growth channels,
And there are a few crucial things I learnt,
first phase:
1. Niche down
2. Quantity over quality
3. Consistency
Those things you need to do to get more exposure, BUT
From my personal experience, If you just solely focus on quantity instead of quality it will hurt you in the long run.

So what’s next then?
It’s time to shift to Quality over Quantity.
with the current audience you have, you need to produce quality content that they will enjoy, something new, something fresh to keep them entertained. But to create quality content you need more time.
I think this is very important for the growth.
So second phase:
1. Quality over quantity
but after a while, your audience get bored, a lot of other channel also in the same niche like you, your views go down and it’s very discouraging.
It’s time for third phase:
1. Personality
2. Community
I can’t say much because I’m in this phase right now, and so far so good. Been doing live streams, building community on discord and etc.
It’s something fresh for me, my audience.
I know it’s not gonna be easy, but I will keep on going.

That’s what I see in most big channels. Viewers are back again and again for the TH-camr. That’s true success to me
Mr. Chee love the content and what you talk about in your video is well spot on.
Thanks. How’s your channel going?
Think Media, Roberto Blake, and several others that you didn’t mention. I find them very useful resources. But of course you have one part education and the other part is your own work
I follow them as well but they are at a different level. Besides, covering them as well will make the video way too long.
Great video Kevin. Been following you for two years now. Always appreciate your creativity and out of the box style of thinking for video ideas. Glad to see you still growing
Thanks for all your support in the last 2 years!
@@KevinChee Well said....very well said.
Katie Stecklie is one to follow plus Trena Little and Marley Jaxx. My own channel is beginning to take off because I'm focusing on a wider content scope recently.
Never heard of them before. Will check it out
Whenever I talk about the economy (after all I'm a small business channel) my views and subscribers jump dramatically. But I've also done well sharing a vlog about my own life of living in two capital cities such as Sydney and Melbourne at the same time.
A mix of topics gives a channel a lot more flexibility. I prefer a channel that gives me that freedom over a niches down channel.
@@KevinChee well I'm in a wide area topic. My videos cover a wide range of personal and business topics. But when you talk about money making you're not limited either.
Congrats on 4k subs! Been following your channel for a while, and always relating so well with every one of them. Keep it up!
Thank you so much for your support
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I think you nailed it 👍. You inspired me!
That's really good to hear. I think building your persona is super important in the game of YT
He's not leaving TH-cam though. None of them leave TH-cam. It's always just clickbait. He started a new channel.
He left CM, not YT
You are really good at what you do.. first time im visiting your channel.. you definitely deserve my sub, and I wish you the best ,and I will stay connected because I love the way you analyze things.. also, I'm a fan of Nate black for the same reason. He is great at analyzing information for the audience !!!
Thank you. I don't always analyse stuff but when I do, I'll try my best.
Kevin, this was an excellent analysis! Well done! Nice style with the music, your presence, advice and a sense of authentic openess.
Thank you. Do you follow Channel Makers too? Or are you following Nate Black?
@@KevinChee Wow, Nate's videos are crushing Channel Makers. Maybe they misunderstood Nate's appeal with the audience?
@@timsmythfilmsandanimations Nate's channel is getting lots of momentum from the YT algorithm, probably triggered from viewers from CM. I think the mistake CM made is to not have Nate promote Project 24 that much in the last 2-3 years (which has been CM's main goal). It made it look like Nate is the sole person of CM and now that he's left, he brings along his viewers with him.
It’s funny how all these creators you watch I watched too for channel growth and nothing worked 😂 And I agree with going viral. Too many people have died out after going viral which sucks 😩
I guess these creators are the ones who ‘made’ it and so they appear often on our feeds. The algorithm can be terribly skewed sometimes.
You've probably never watched channel makers or practiced what they've thought to say this
Great video but I think it’s a stretch to say that nobody wants to start a channel in 2023.
Its the Baader-Meinhof phenomenon!
Nate as is own TH-cam channel now, channel makers did not belong to him.
It was a surprise to me. To me, he is Channel Makers and not the other way around. That's how it got implanted in us.
Good video man, I agree with your points!
Appreciate it!
Men like your videos, do you script them?
Yes I do, word-for-word. I learn that from MKBHD :)
He started his own channel :
www.youtube.com/@ThatNateBlack
already following him!
Great video!
Thanks!
But Nate is back on his own channel a few days ago. Trust me he's not left the world.
Yeap. I mentioned that in this video. I’m more interested in his new channel than channel makers now
Nate Black would be out of the game, if he didn’t have his own channel we’re he continues his great work.
yeap
He made a new channel
already following him!
nothing lasts forever on TH-cam
Just like everything else
Wow your analysis is so well done and eye opening 👍
I started following Cathrin after finding her channel from search as that time she was covering obscure topics in blogging...with the high quality and energy style that many have grown to love.
When something sounds too good to be true, it usually is!
I don't think so he quits, he's moving on going solo
Yeap.. I mentioned that in this video too. He started his own channel and I can’t wait to see what he has in store. It doesn’t have to be TH-cam growth related! That’s the power of personality and relatability
Nice video
Thanks
You are type 3 I guess
Sorry, this video is quite a while now and I don't remember what type 3 is.. care to elaborate?
@@KevinChee one viral video guy
great video, thats the reason Im subscribe to your channel 8:14
Thank you very much
Nathan is doing extremely well in a half year with 40K subs and averaging 15K views per video on his own new channel.
He has a new channel on his own. It is @ThatNateBlack
already following him!
