  • I've reviewed thousands of TH-cam channels, and these are the things that happen before failure (but also how to fix them).
    Here's how I'm helping creators: radicalyt.com/
    I also share more outside TH-cam:

    Twitter/Threads (thoughts, if I have any): / thatnateblack

      What’s the best rhythm for a successful video. I know fast cuts help keep your audiences attention but I don’t think you can have a video that’s 12mins with a cut every 1 to 2 seconds with out people getting annoyed or board and leaving.

    I’ve been on here since 2018. I’m only now seeing better views. I’ve grown very slowly. I’ve absorbed all of the knowledge to an obsessive degree but didn’t know how to interpret it. Also needed to develop self awareness. Becoming friends with a big youtuber in my niche helped a lot too. And never giving up even when i felt like it.

    One huge thing that actually improved me from watching you is collaborating with others. I made a small discord group with me and 5 other creators. @@pianopoly6219 I don’t :). I find it helpful to learn from other niche’s especially as I dip my toes into different categories. Everything feels more objective.

    I'm a small fishing channel and been doing it for awhile now. It doesn't matter to me if I have 2 subs or just over 400. It matters to me that I've entertained or helped someone with what I love to do.

    Every time I stray away from TH-cam, it's because there's some kind of perspective or skill that I need to learn, that I can't learn by grinding away at videos, but when I come back it's always better. Even if I'm doing the same thing it feels different and I think the audience can feel it too. I think it's important to give ourselves grace during the time we get pulled away because maybe there's something we nee to learn that can impact and help us reach our audience.

    I recently chose to make YT part time only because I am a full time writer and I want to focus more on that. As a result, I produce less videos, but found more enjoyment in them, my audience loves the vids I do for them, and I have begun sharing my stories with my audience in the community tab and even created a choose-your-own-adventure story for them with polls for them to shape the story I would write. This has increased engagement, and while my channel remains small, I have found contentment because I am more in alignment with my true goals.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS
    To make it on TH-cam, you gotta keep learning and using what you know, fast.
    Don't let haters or your own doubts mess with your vibe; that can really make or break you as a creator.
    It's not just about learning stuff, but actually doing something with it. If you don't, you'll probably get frustrated and might even quit.
    If you're into what you're making, you're more likely to succeed. Lose interest, and your content's gonna suffer.
    If you're not feeling it anymore, it's cool to focus on other stuff. No need to force it.
    Great video Nate

  • @AloneRacecar
    @AloneRacecar 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +21

    One thing that I have learned since becoming a content creator on TH-cam (or just having an existence online) is that when it comes to building your page, it will take some time. It’s kinda like the old saying “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. Also it doesn’t hurt to try out different ways to put together videos to see what works and what doesn’t.
    Another thing that I wanted to say before I forget, is that as the more popular you get you’ll get your share of haters too. And people who will label you as “cringe”.
    Now don’t get me wrong, you’ll have an audience who will love you and support you every way. But not everyone is going to like you and disagree with what you believe in. Even if it has reason for it, you can’t let it get to you by heart. Otherwise you’re going to have a harsh reality.
    Anyways that’s what I think, it don’t mean that the next creator will say the same. Good video!

      @manhwainfinite 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      agreed! As a smaller content creator myself I found that when I started truly focusing on my videos and quality the subscribers comments and views came in. 1) Learning rate. If you're not picking up the right things and being effective, you'll fail. 2) Mindset. Gotta stick with it. Filter out ugly feedback. Your own narrative can steer you into a ditch. 3) Application rate. If not enough action, you'll lose momentum, and you'll pack it up. 4) Stop caring. What does enough mean? Other priorities can take over.

    The "expectation" of "taking off" that doesn't happen . . . leads to failure. The unrealistic expectation. One just needs to continue to work toward success: however an individual solves the problem and gains knowledge. Putting a time limit on it causes PRESSURE. Pressure = STRESS. Don't do that. Have a positive FUN learning experience and cut out all the stress. This isn't a contest to be won, it's an experience to be had.

    Love the content Nate (Nick :)). Been binging - my takeaway for tonight is showing personality, and focusing on 1 thing only. This 1 thing is getting emotions through on thumbnails.
    Thanks again for the help.

    I'm gonna be 100% honest, I know why I haven't blown up on TH-cam. I just don't upload on a regular consistent bases, nor do I really stick to one subject. I normally bounce around from game to game so things don't get repetitive. But come September 6th when Starfield drops, OH THE IDEAS I HAVE ARE GONNA BE WACK!!! XD So my fingers are crossed I'll be able to stick to that for a solid period of time and see where it goes.

Gained 30 subs in a week (faster than I ever have) Channel will transition soon but I’m not to worried about the “name” etc.. Just wanna make fun and quality stuff that makes me smile 😊

I love how you add in something to help us with the mental stress of creating in most of your videos. I’m curious, do you have many other subs creating content for children?

    Thank you Nate. I definitely feel like I have the patience to continue and push through the pain of slow growth. I realize it takes time, and I'm committed for life. Although I have to admit that sometimes the competition in my niche seems a little daunting. I can only imagine having thousands or hundreds of thousands of subscribers. That being said, my motivation is to truly help those who play ttrpg games to improve their craft and provide them practical resources, not just for the sake of monetization (which of course is a major goal, hoping to quit my job at some point), but I genuinely have a passion for running and playing ttrpg games. I currently have 12 subscribers! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Nate, here's two other ideas that would be useful for us. One, some videos on using TH-cam to link to monetizing yourself in other ways, such as creating info products or other creative ways to earn money. Two, deciding on linking TH-cam to a blog or a webpage, and how to do it. Thanks for asking, Nate, and I'm really looking forward to your new videos to come!

    I have had both, my shorts and long video's suddenly stopped getting views. In surprising fashion from the other video's I have made over the year. Not knowing what is happening or how to fix it really intensifies the burnout for me. I'm still trying, but it's difficult if you can't figure out what to fix. Love your videos, though!! I'll get there one day, haha!! Thanks!!

    I love when you pose questions I can ask myself about my channel (or, even better, questions I can ask myself about BIG channels I’m trying to follow in the footsteps of). Sometimes for example, it’s hard to know what, of all the things in a big channel’s thumbnail, is the key that makes it really work, ya know?
    Got any magic questions to help narrow that down? 😛

    • @ThatNateBlack
      @ThatNateBlack  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      1) what recurring themes do I see (use of images, words, colors, emotions)?
      2) how do I feel when I look at this (or these) thumbnails?
      There are some questions I like 👍 🎉

    HI Nate. Hi guys. So, this is my third TH-cam channel, the 2nd to be monetized and the first ever to make any real money. I've just got into the Partner Program, about a week ago or so and the first time I joined TH-cam was June 2021 and that channel is pretty much non existent at this point. I'm the least patient person I know but I stuck it out, third time's the charm I guess! What I learned was keep going and do something that excites you, people can tell the difference between enthusiasm and faking it. Amazingly enough I also realized I had much better views with one video a week than 2. I even did Vlogmas! hehehe.
    I should also add that I've never had a viral video and I still monetized in 10 months so... totally possible guys, forget about viral, do what you love consistently and keep at it.
    Keep going, you've got this!

    Love the quote: “I may not know everything but I’m good at getting a sound or song out of my mind into the speakers.”
    This is a quote that helps keep me driven: “There is no chance, no destiny, no fate, that can circumvent, or hinder, or control the firm resolve of a determined soul.” -Ella Wheeler Wilcox

      Yes, when I’m not feeling good enough I remind myself of the quote “comparison is the thief of joy”, which brings me back down to earth.
