  • In this free video tutorial Paul Drew tracks a vocal session through the UAD Apollo interface. Paul demonstrates how to use the Unison slots and inserts the amazing Manley Vox Box plug-in to achieve a smooth vocal tone. After trying the Vox Box Paul decides that some extra top end is needed to get that modern vocal sound, so he inserts the Maag eq4 plug-in and uses the Airband.

    This is the first tutorial EVER that made my eyes water up, just from the beauty of the singing. Nice production work too - nothing overdone, everything nicely placed. Absolutely brilliant tutorials, btw!! Thank you!!

      Green Ethan that sucks, then you obviously haven’t heard good artists because she wasn’t really singing, this is a mainstream style everyone is copying and there’s no originality, it’s not that hard to hit those ranges, check out Ghost Atlas, Jon Bellion, Erra, Bad Omens, Amity Affliction, those guys get it right.

      Gabriel Gonzalez wow... it must really suck to be you. I’ve been listening to Abi and this track sooo much. It’s beautiful and speaks to me, which is all that matters. For sore fucks like you of course, the only way to feel good about yourself is feigned superiority through a misplaced sense self importance. Your opinion is dogshit, so is everyone else’s. Only difference is that you are trying to shove yours down a dude’s throat just because you can’t stand the idea of shutting up for five minutes and letting people enjoy their music. Try thinking for just a second before vomiting up crap like that again. Good day to you..

      I am the lead/guitar of my Band and my experience is mid tier at best for my age. But lets make something clear. All performance has value, no opinion should be ignored (even if we disagree) and for us, the Artists, its all magic. Life is too short for hate. As for the performance; have you considered that opinions and experience are subjective? Do what you like in your own space and let its success (or lack of) speak.
      Because I have been inspired by people who can't even afford a 200$ Laptop. Played with musicians who have nothing to their name but a mud hut and a ageing drum. Get some perspective and voice your opinions with compassion for everyone and everything. No need to play 'battle of the bad'. Be respectful of each other please.

    Quick question - I see that in the video the backing tracks are all routed to Virtual 1-2, but when you started recording the ld vox, her track was being routed to Stereo Monitor. Do you change that to Virtual 1-2 so that the timing is consistent? I see that it is changed at the end, but just want to make sure...

  • @tommyradband

    Hey Paul, I use this exact recording system, Apollo 8p, Pro Tools, iMac... my question is...I learned awhile back that when you are tracking a second, or third, instrument, either the apollo console 2.0 or the Pro Tools DAW must be muted while overdubbing any track to the previous instrument tracks recorded. If one or the other is not muted, there is a substantial doubling of the new instrument you are tracking. It's very much out of sync with all the tracks you've previously recorded. I have tried muting both the apollo console, alone, leaving the Pro Tools DAW unmuted, and the reverse, muting the PT DAW muted, and the Console unmuted. There doesn't seem to be much of a difference either way unless of course you are using a UA guitar amp plug in, or bass etc... you can't mute the console in these cases, as the plug in's sound woun't transfer through to the DAW. But in most cases one or the other must be isoloated by muting to alleviate the terrible double tracking/out of sync sound you get. Of course this is not necessary when tracking the very first track alone, i.e. Drum sequencer, or bass guitar to a click track. But in all other cases of overdubbing I have found this an absolute necessary procedure. Is there any other way that you can overdub the next instrument without having to mute the new track being laid down on the Console, or the DAW, while listening to the previously recorded tracks so as to play in sync, obviously, with the rest of the song. I have found no way to leave both console and DAW unmuted on the track being laid down via overdub?
    Thank you,
    TommyRad

    You have to wonder if this vocalist sang with their real voice what it would sound like? Singers need to stop copping the current popular stylings and just use their real voice. She sings very well it just sounds contrived and indistinguishable from all the imposters. I think the blame lies squarely on the producer as they have become the starz and the artists are just fulfilling their artistic whims---why all songs sound the same in POP!

    • @GabrielXDrums
      @GabrielXDrums 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeremy Serwer look up Jon Bellion, completely changed what you just said, one of the only remaining true pop artists but yea I agree, everyone is losing their individuality and I don’t hear any uniqueness in it.
