    It is a very good book for beginners as well as for those that are already into th-cam.com/users/postUgkxTNB_zFBSnTo_O1PqfVUwgi7ityw0JlKt A very good basic ebook to keep as a reference too. I like it and the way the subject matter is presented. It has humor and that helps with the reading.

    Hi Scott, I use almost all pallet wood for my projects; I also get long pallets and many old decking boards. Wood of any size is practically none existent here in the UK and the amount of “friends” that have been coming over to see if I have any wood that they could use has multiplied. Some of them I have not seen for many months suddenly need wood and are popping over. Wood that was useless according to them is suddenly okay and the old nail holes don’t matter anymore, I have more fair weather friends now and even my son has been round and I haven’t seen him since Christmas, my birthday in February he forgot but as soon as he needs some wood he remembers where I live (a long way, all of ten miles) and I have had three visits form him in the last week.

    7:27 Yep, and same around the nose piece too, where firing pin is. Every so often open that up and take mag off and clean everything nice and shiny and lube (if called for) everything and it’s good to go for another few years👍🏻
    Not a hard thing to do, just takes some time to clear out all the gunk and “plastic” pieces if shoot plastic collated fasteners (which we do as well).
    Nice way to cover the kitchen and like this new house. Gonna be looking spiffy when thru😁
    Cheers✌🏻

    Hey Scott, lumber issues are global. Here in Canada compared to 14 months ago, stick framing is 4x what it was 14 months ago & sheet materials are 5x the cost. Interestingly, gypsum board is roughly the same price... Last year at the height of round 1 of the pandemic, all we could get was the reject lumber, twisted, split & bent. We had buyers coming from other towns more than 100km away to grab what the merchant received as soon as it arrived. In some instances they were following the lumber trucks along the highway to the yard & the packs were being loaded from the delivery truck direct to the contractor's truck. It is insane here, so difficult to make a profitable quote with materials included. I have taken to quoting for time only with materials at cost separate...
    Keep up the "Chippies porn" videos!

    • @beetrootboy9301
      @beetrootboy9301 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Like all languages Maori has its own peculiarities. An 'r' is rolled with the tongue off the top of the mouth. An 'au' at the end is pronounced more like 'oh' in the English language. Ever wondered why thought isn't spelt thort?

    • @Muritaipet
      @Muritaipet 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      As a general rule with Māori words, say every vowel. So to say "Maori" say Ma - oh - ri. (Correctly it's Māori with a long ā sound, Maa - oh - ri). Paerau should be something like Pa - eh - rra - ow. But it gets screwed up, because we New Zealanders clip our vowels a lot.
      I've put a link below on Maori, if you want. It's 2 minutes of history, 5 minutes of pronunciation etc, then gets technical.

    Why don’t you just use plaster battern hooks? Use the ceiling joists and screw straight to them, and set them with a laser. Hundred times easier and quicker.

    A lot of work for a few mm. The lengths you go to levelling everything to the smallest degree baffles me. Structurally sound screw your battens sheet it. You must work on huge budgets. I'd be hard pressed to find a client willing to pay me to do all that. I work on a lot of house moved Queenslanders. Some have been cut into sections and moved several times. Good luck levelling them you would be there for months. I did my time working on buildings from the 12th Century on. We were always taught work with what you have. We went by eye and the old platitude if it looks right it is right. Moved to Australia and for a time worked for a so called Heritage Restoration company working on for Australia old buildings. Same as you out came the lasers and all kinds of modern steel bits and brackets etc. Totally not in keeping with the original structures. Nothing was sympathetic to the buildings I couldn't cope and left. This is only a 1940s house ceiling. In what situation does it become critical that the ceiling is laser level. Cost for the sake of cost.

    The ceiling panel is cane-ite - well that is what I would call it uses as sound proofing material or pin up boards in schools - if you ever run out of laminated lumber you could always make up your own composite using readily available sections ??

    Never check out a beam.....surely you would just redo the valley support and not compromise a perfectly good LVL.

    • @DiscoFang

      Yeah, that was the kind of thing a plumber does! Would've been better to check out that support strut and add a fixing to the new beam They effectively wasted 50mm of beam dimension.. and price.

      In NZ some shortages are caused by a building boom. People are unable to travel so are spending their money on renovations and cars. I haven't noticed prices rising that much at the builder suppliers, although they may have in the home stores.

    curiously, if you're reinforcing a settled single story structure, is the laser level necessary? isn't a slight slope in joists typical/desireable sometimes? also, if it's for longevity's sake, wouldn't highlighting an initail bad design an important topic, or do you need to whip a laser out every time you redrywall?

  • @boselecta

    Cant believe there's a shortage of timber in NZ as there's also a shortage here in AUS.
