This video is sponsored by my Patreon patrons - THANK YOU!
I am posting on TH-cam selected previously locked Patreon videos that are over two years old. This is one of them.
Some of the topics discussed on the 'blah blah' towards the end of video, because of the upload date, may no longer be relevant. Some videos are classed as graphic in content by TH-cam, (which is quite frankly baffling, but no surprise with today's culture)...and will most certainly be demonetised by TH-cam; nevertheless, thanks to my loyal Patreon patrons, I will eventually post them here too despite TH-cam's policy. Link to my Patreon page and other sites under the description :)
Many, many thanks to my patrons on Patreon for enabling me to keep going - bless you all!

Yes! this was an interesting one 👍
I'm letting all the commercials play through - I'm not sure how it all works, but hopefully you'll at least get paid for the views this video receives before they demonetize it 🤞
It's one thing if they need to age-restrict a video, but to also prevent the creator from earning any revenue is beyond ridiculous 🙄

    • @ObsoleteOddity
      @ObsoleteOddity  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@a2shake That’s so kind of you Amy, thank you so much my friend.
And it is appreciated, because I know how torturous the ads are.
If they demonetise or age restrict, the video is killed dead in the water. Will hardly get any views.

@@ObsoleteOddity Totally crazy! Do they deny revenue to TikToker's who produce child-inappropriate content? Maybe they do, I don't know, but still dumb as hell. These people ever hear of parental controls?
I noticed that your videos are usually monetized for maybe a day after you upload them. That being said, I'm curious to know if you at least receive any payment for the views they receive in that short time?

Dearest Oddie, a magnificent story of rags to riches and doing what one must do to get where and what she wants! While not a respectful and desirable job, it was indeed lucrative for her! The abused lady is one I can relate to, to an extent. I, too, had been abused by my ex-husband. Thankfully, my children and I made it out alive! I believe Miss Natalie's portrait is quite similar to the lovely Elizabeth Taylor!
I hope you recover quickly! I feel your pain with all the respiratory issues! May better health befall you soon! Thank you for your amazing work!!!

Thank you so much for your very kind feedback, my friend, so glad you enjoyed the presentation.
Indeed, she was headstrong and determined, and it certainly paid off - she established herself in society, and was very wealthy, something that other women of her birth status could never have imagined.
I’m so sorry to hear about the abuse she suffered, I’m happy that you managed to get out of there alive, so many women don’t.
I was wondering why that portrait seemed so familiar, I couldn’t quite put my finger on it and yes, you are absolutely correct, it resembles Elizabeth Taylor so much.
Thank you for your very kind wishes, I am fine now - this video is over two years old.

Whether you agree with her lifestyle or not, you have to admire the drive and ambition and intelligence of women who use their wits to escape bad circumstances and break free to get the life they want. I've read a lot of stories about women in the Klondike gold rush days who've done similar things, doing the only thing they could at first to get out of poverty and gain riches.
That's quite the bed!! "A virtual ship of carnal pleasure."
    I do love her style.

Appreciate Oddie Beau's attempts at French pronunciation. I can still remember early French lessons, starting at age 8, with Madame Florescu, a native Parisian who had married a Romanian-American college professor ( Radu Florescu, author of "Vlad the Impaler" ) Madame would make funny faces emphasizing the "eh" sound in words like peu. The way she contorted her lips was really something. The gargled "r" sounds were extremely important to her, as well. We growled out words like "garcon". I can read and comprehend written French fairly well, still, but don't get me started on pronunciations in conversation! Sounds like I'm lampooning the language with over-exaggerations of its unique peculiarities. Thanks to Madame Florescu. Valiant work here, Oddie. Merci.

I just hope my old brain will be able to take it in by that stage 😄

Hi Oddie, Love you. Odette and your channel. Thanks for talking about many people I have never heard about before like Louise Delabigne. Louise Delabigne was a prostitute then rose to the top. Reminds me of Chinese Empress Dowager Cixi . Who was a Chinese concubine in her youth, then turned into Empress of China later.
Cixi story is fascinating too. She ruled at same time as Queen Victoria. Louise Delabigne also reminds me of Marguerite Alibert who was plain looking and rose to the top too-she was the one who killed her Prince husband.-Oddie has talked about Marguerite Alibert also.
louise Delabigne was a smart lady she knew who to talk to to rise to the top. Louise Delabigne was a fascinating lady, thanks for talking about her. One final note was that Louise Delabigne at 0:01 or some other lady? Thanks. 🧡🧡

I have nothing but respect for these strong willed women, who carved out a life more free than those of “proper” Ladies in their time. They lifted themselves up from poverty to enjoy places in the most prominent society. They wore fine garments and jewels, gifts from their admiring court of men of high station. They retained their freedom, to choose who she would favour, and when. They acted, sang, and danced in the finest theatres (which no woman of quality could), building a mystique about themselves, becoming the fantasy creature desired by many.
They knew that if they did not shape their own lives, others would, and they would be trapped in the class structure that denied the finer things to women of low birth. They educated themselves in many subjects, so they would be stimulating company, and were pursues as much for their sophisticated and witty company, as for their sexuality. Unlike the straightlaced Wives of their benefactors, they enjoyed their sensual pleasures, and were active participants in their encounters. They lived life to the fullest, with a joi de vie that was itself magnetic.
These women, also remembered where they came from, and they had hearts large enough to help other, younger girls learn the arts and skills required to lift themselves into finer lives as well. They didn’t create competitors for themselves, but as they aged, they took protégés who would inherit the positions held in their own youths. They kept enough wealth to retire in comfort as their prime of beauty faded, leaving a legend behind them untainted by age. There is a power in knowing who you truly are, and becoming that person by one’s own intelligence and will.
Thank you Oddie, for a peek into the lives of these grand Courtesans, who lived on their own terms with no regrets. Much love to you and Odette, as always dear friends.💖🖤🇨🇦

    • @ObsoleteOddity
      @ObsoleteOddity  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Thank you for your most excellent summary Tamarra, there’s not really much I can add, you have given the most wonderful insight into her life, and the lives of other courtesans of the time.
What you said is so true, that if a woman was born impoverished, and wasn’t able to pull themselves out of it by any means possible, it would mean a drab life of slavery for very little money. The young people today think they are hard done by, but they have no idea what it was like back then.
There were women and men back, then, who looked down upon these women, just as there are today - but these women were not bothered by such scorn, they lived lives of elegance and adventure, of course, this really only applies to be successful courtesans, and not the street girls who couldn’t rise above that level.
So glad you enjoyed the presentation, my dear friend, hope spring has finally made an appearance your end of the pond, here it is raining - we have not given up hope!
      Much love to you ❤️🇨🇭☀️⭐️

@@tamarrajames3590 I totally agree, it is such a lovely time of the year, when everything is blooming afresh, and animal life is making lots of glorious noise. I remember working in a hotel in my 20s, and I was complaining loudly about the ibises, ripping the bin bags out of the containers and spreading the rubbish around. An old Portier gently reminded me that they too must eat. That changed my perspective immediately, all the beings upon the Earth are just trying to survive. Now I can even look kindly at the snails that devour Odette’s lettuce (she hasn’t quite managed it 😄)

Clearly, she had to know at some stage of her "professional " life as she strived to become a top courtesan that she was committing adultery with married Men? Not saying she wasn't saved because Our Lord saved Mary Magdalene too. But clearly the love of $ cashola is the root of all evil. Even the brilliant mind of Emanuel Swedenborg figured out that most marriages among the wealthy were a sham. The marriages themselves were based upon money, social status, political gain and arm decorations. On the Catholic perspective, the Apparition of Our Lady of Fatima warned those 3 Shepherd children in Portugal that "not all marriages are pleasing to God or of Heaven"
