Thank you not only for the lovely compliment, but also by the equally lovely show of support - thank you so much for your generous donation, very much appreciated, my friend 🙏😊
Oh Oddie, another great one! These ladies deserve all the credit. And nobody does them better than you! Almost reminds me of my own mother, thankfully not the horrible upbringing, and trauma, but she was the black sheep of her family. Left to raise 2 small children when her first husband died. She put herself through beauty school, raised 3 more kids, had one bad marriage and finally a good one. In the 40s and 50s it was still tough in its own way. Storm is rolling in now and I see the lightning 🌩. Should be able to sleep now. Thanks again for a wonderful story!
I’m very happy you enjoyed it Jackie, thank you so much. It’s quite often the black sheep of the family who has the strongest willpower - I’m happy to hear that your mother never faulted in her stride, it was definitely tough back then.
I so appreciate all the fascinating people from days gone by that you've introduced us to. In all honesty, sir, you could tell us a tale about a peanutbutter sandwich, and we'd all be riveted 😄 You are such an amazing story teller! Thank you, Oddie!
Enjoyed this story about such an amazing lady , she was a very intelligent lady she knew many influential people lived a full life in the end devoted to others thanks for a great story , there non like these this day and age
Good morning Oddie, such a pleasure to see a post from you. Her upbringing was terribly sad, without parents. She was taught to be a Lady, but to Marry at 10 years of age??? To be assaulted so young is unimaginable to me. I have great empathy for her awful marriage. So glad she divorced that man. It is not surprising her motto was "Enjoy or Parish". That was her key to survival. Liane de Pougy, with her upbringing, experiences really had no other choice. Women were objects for men's enjoyment and use. She became a celebrity, from beaty, intelligence, and business sense. Good for her. She had no other way, did she not? She used men's desires, and customs of that time, to enrich herself. She did find satisfaction from giving and raising funds for unfortunate women. There is a wonderful feeling when one helps others. She passed away in 1950, the year I was born. Thank you Oddie. Regards to Audette.
One important correction was the age that Liane got married, it was not 10 but 17. It was written so strangely that it confused me- (I wrote a correction during the video at that part) You're most welcome, thanks for your feedback!
I enjoy hearing of the lives of those famous in their own time but lost to posterity. Today we have more than we could possibly count, considering how wide the pool of "celebrity" has become. Back then, without pr firms and world wide media you had to be GOOD at what you did, even if it wasn't something we'd all aspire to becoming 😮 I'm sure Liane had that certain something that put her at the top. Maybe women even prettier and just as ambitious failed at becoming wealthy courtesans because they didn't have that certain something that captivated rich men, even compelling them to plunk a small fortune on their bums! Love your work, Oddie. You make all your subjects so interesting.
Hello,, Thanks for the interesting video. You're so funny how you finally gave up on the pronunciations of the french words, you do fantastic when you do try, it only adds to your charm. I just wanted to take notice that she did get her 6 strands of pearls that she wears in almost every photo. Anyways luv ya' ! Kelly from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
I’m very glad you enjoyed it, Kelly, thank you so much for your positive feedback. I’m happy you enjoyed my tongue trips! 😀 Yes someone else mentioned about the six strands of pearls, I hadn’t noticed that. Hope you have a lovely upcoming weekend!

I wish you blessings always and a great week! ❤️🙏😊
Dear Narrator, by coincidence I just recently finished reading Pougy's autobiography "Mes Cahiers Bleus". There are details in your source which are lacking in her diaries, which is natural coming from another objective, adding an extra dimension to her own records. Your presentation would be an excellent jumping off point should anyone wish to pursue this subject and actually experience her life through her eyes. Her interactions with so many of the well-known members of the artistic and upper echelon circles of French society of the period reads like a "Whose Who" of that most fascinating and creative era of French culture. Your thorough research and presentation are, as always, exemplary and most appreciated, another job well-done! Kudos!

Thank you so much for all your research - expect you know about her Autobiography - ‘My Blue Notebooks’ or ‘Mes Cahiers Blanc’, passages from Liane’s diaries from 1924-1941. Happily for me, I once lived near a Library that thoughtfully sold off books in all my varying interests and this was one of them. Have a lovely restful time away, both of you 😁

Hi Oddie!🙋♀️ I haven't watched in quite a while. I've been taking care of my family members who have had surgeries and haven't caught up watching. 💖💖💖
Hello Oddy, you know that I love all of the stories, but honestly this one so far has been one of my favorite characters. I'm adding her to my bucket list related to going to France where my grandmama came from. Ohh I'm all gitty & a somewhat meh day has become a great day
Oddie, another fantastic story of someone who came from nothing and lived a life of riches, but at what cost to her psyche? I wonder what/how I would have done in her situation? I appreciate your work but some of those pronunciations were insane!! Have a wonderful day as this made mine! I look forward to your next one!!
I’m very happy you enjoyed it, Mary, thank you so much for your lovely feedback. Yes, the pronunciations were certainly a task! But I never give up in the face of adversity 😄 Thank you again and take care.
Having just found your channel, I am really enjoying these videos and all the work that goes into them. There are a couple of interesting characters that you may like that I know of. One is Eliza Jumel, a socialite from 18th century Manhattan, for whom Gorham named a sterling silver pattern and Texas Guinan, who was famous for several things in the early 1900's.
"Ohhhhh noooo. Save me from this" he proclaimed, as he struggles with French pronunciations. 😂 I laughed so much. I am studying French once again and I too would like to be saved.
Thank you for this wonderful and interesting episode. I wonder at the power of legendary beauty such as hers, Helen of Troy, Cleopatra, and others. I imagine it's as much to do with bearing, and confidence in addition to physical attributes and historical timing. By that I mean, what is admired in one era may be considered unappealing in another. She certainly used her gifts to make the best of a bad situation, didn't she? I can't fault her for that. I wonder where all her fortune - jewels, mansions, money, etc. went, or were they mostly liquidated for her care, and for charity, prior to her death? We'll probably never know.
Very glad you enjoyed it, Julia, thank you so much for your positive feedback. Yes, I wonder what happened to her fortune? Did she leave it to the convent? - that I don’t know?
IF i didnt know Mr.Oddity that this story was true,i would have to think of it as a romance novel. She used her brains for survival and her good life at the end. It is sad that people shun such a person like her without knowing why she is doing this. She overcame all blocks in her life.I honor her.
I think the other girl you read about had a much more interesting life than Liane who seemed to stay in the same country rising to power though she did have nice buns which cracked me up when you said how much it cost to touch them.. :D
Many of us fall off the path, but the ones that at the core are pretty good, somehow get back on. She was still a princess and a Third Order not a nun but a lay sister; so, a hotel vs a palace was not that bad. All Saints have a past all sinners have a chance, she took it. Good for her.
Well to be correct, she was a princess by marriage not by birth. But absolutely, she found a worthy cause and showed the real kindness of her soul by helping those less fortunate.
These were girl schools not just damp prisons. Not sure what's worse in people's minds but my great grandma was twelve when she was married off. Also, my grandma, being born in 1904, told me they were never told about all things uterine. She never told my mom, either, who thought she was dying when she came of age. She made darn sure I knew. A third order Dominican is someone who doesn't enter a convent but lives in the world while following a religious rule. There are many people who still do this under various rules.
Convents in early modern Europe (1500-1800) absorbed many unmarried and disabled women as nuns.[1] France deemed convents as an alternative to prisons for unmarried or rebellious women and children.[2] It was also where young girls were educated as they waited to be married. Conditions in many French convents were quite primitive until the middle of the 20th century.
Very glad you enjoyed it, Martha-Ann! Well I always believe one should keep testing ones self, otherwise one would be stuck in a rut! On a serious note though, I’d like to think my French has improved since this presentation two years ago, although I’m not absolutely sure 😄🤣
I must be the only person who thinks this woman is awful 😮 she left her child behind because miney was more important and she comes across as very manipulative since she wpuld take poison when a man was unfaithful but not enough to actually be successful, she sounds like a very dangerous woman imo
Yet again I was lulled to sleep by your soothing voice, Oddie. And then i watched the video the next day to hear the actual story.

Thanks 🙏🏿👍🏿
That was fascinating!
The life she lead was from greed to a philanthropist.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you 😊
Another delicious episode. Oh dear well you will have a wonderful time anyway. What a beautiful woman she was. What has happened to our gene pool....🤔
Very happy you enjoyed it!
Well this video is over two years old, and we did have a lovely time - but thank you anyway!
Hey Oddie 💚
I have a friend who lives in modern day Grenoble so to here it mentioned in this story is nuts. 😮
Definitely 👍 😂👍👍❣️
She was famous with the "Big Casseroles". Interesting turn of phrase there.
Ahhhhhh the French accent I love it ❤❤
🤣
IF i didnt know Mr.Oddity that this story was true,i would have to think of it as a romance novel. She used her brains for survival and her good life at the end. It is sad that people shun such a person like her without knowing why she is doing this. She overcame all blocks in her life.I honor her.
It does indeed read like a romance novel.
She most certainly had willpower and drive!
what a life oddie !!!!!🙂🙂
It's very well read, despite some of those bodacious French names! ❤
I really appreciate that, thank you.
Sir oddie i hope your doing well & love to you & yours 🫶🖖💖
Much appreciated, thank you ☺️
Hello Oddie. I hope you’re doing good. 🥰
You too Amy!
@@ObsoleteOddity I am, thanks. You guys have a safe trip.
Imagine going to Sarah Bernhardt for mentorship and getting "well, at least you're pretty" 😬
She was certainly very beautiful ❤️
Oddie Beau, beautiful and interesting story. For your sake perhaps an English spoken/written presentation. Be kind to yourself 😊 Thank you
Very glad you enjoyed it, Martha-Ann!
Well I always believe one should keep testing ones self, otherwise one would be stuck in a rut!
On a serious note though, I’d like to think my French has improved since this presentation two years ago, although I’m not absolutely sure 😄🤣
What is in texss???
Say whaa?
❤❤❤❤
"I'm doing penance at the Ritz!"
I could do with a bit of penance myself, I’ll join you for coffee and croissants!

We love a bisexual icon.
50,000. USA dollars 😮 I don't even think Megan Markle would dare to charge so much...
I must be the only person who thinks this woman is awful 😮 she left her child behind because miney was more important and she comes across as very manipulative since she wpuld take poison when a man was unfaithful but not enough to actually be successful, she sounds like a very dangerous woman imo
Certainly not beautiful.
Happy Sunday oddity ❤
Same to you!
wish you named the website too, please if you read this give me the address, thanks 🤍🤍
