      He only paid for the pond, she gets to enjoy it more often. You saw how quickly she named the fish before being taken out of the bag; didn't even consider asking the husband for suggestions?

      to do it right, it's more like 6-9k for a smallish 1000 gallon pond by a genuine expert. The materials and rock alone will run about 2k (NJ prices, we have to import our rock from out of state. If you can get local rock on your own the materials are closer to 1k). Then factor in roughly 25-35 hours for the labor, and that's with experienced & knowledgeable pros using the proper tools.

    I must say, you know what you're doing. I built a pond 2 years ago and used a 125 gal. pond shell and I must say that it's too small and rocks keep falling into it. Thanks for showing me what I need to do--I'm gonna dig a deeper hole and build a shelf around the edge like you do! Great video, dude!

    Love love love the way you do your wateralls. The way it's not a single sheet falling, it's several sheets falling at different angles and sometimes hitting other levels on the way down. I know that's a weird observation, but I've seen some ponds where the waterfall looks soooo fake, and it really jars you out of the moment, even if the rest of the pond looks good. Same with those ugly plastic monstrosities (like the frog in this one) meant to disguise certain features...ugh. Also, I honestly never realized why you leveled all your ponds and put shelves in. I thought it was just a trademark of yours. When I saw how unstable the rocks were in the old pond, I had a eureka moment. Love your videos, thanks so much for the upload and especially the education!

    Wow that really is a nice pond. The kind of pond that makes a garden. Once the plants grow a bit as well it should be even better. Well done.
    If I was going to add my 2 cents it would be to make your pond critter friendly. More nooks and crannies for small invertebrates. That is just my personal choice though since I like wildlife.

    we bought our house two years ago and our koi pond is a mess! it would need a lot of work. we live in arkansas though. pond water is green, there is no filtration system at all, they have a hanging plant with a pump amd tube going to it, which i had bought a yard fountain and rigged it to where it would fall into the pond. no one in our area does koi ponds, and the previous homeowners left us with no information at all on it!

    How do you “ top off” ponds like this? Especially in the summer.
    Obviously collecting rain water... but when it runs out....
    Buckets? Seems like that would be an absolute hassle.
    RODI auto top off so you don’t need conditioner? This would waste a TON of water.
    Do people just use a garden hose and then add the conditioner/dechlorinator Directly to the pond immediately after?

      I am speculating but If it's a new pond it will likely work it self out but it could have been rinsed better if that is the case. If it is an older established pond you might be getting some run off from the landscape around the pond. That should be corrected.

    I have a pond gone wrong. About how much does it cost to demo and rebuild? Just to replace two waterfall pumps the local guy wanted about 1000.00. That does not correct the lack of shelving, resulting in stones falling into the pond, leaking or anything else. I have to oxygenated with a hose with holes in it and a UV filter pump fountain.

    It's allright for people to want to have a waterfall in their pond. The only thing is that neighbours don't get a say in it, and maybe THEY don't like that sound too much if it is that loud.
    I know, because I live next to someone with a very loud waterfall, and it's no fun fo rme to HAVE to listen to it, even in my house when all the windows are closed! :(

    • @ThePondDigger

    • @Keyboardje

      A 'normal' waterfall sound would be no problem, but my neighbour's sounds like living next door to the Niagara ... without having a choice in it
      And... THAT makes me have to pee all day and all night long!
      But seriously, I have tinnitus and that sound makes it a lot worse. Unfortunately she (my neighbour) does not care. I told her when she put it in, and also others have complained to her, but she will not turne the noice down even a litte bit... :(

    I have a question… my pond is almost 20 years old the skimmer is bending in and it has a mesh net for debris. I think I would like to upgrade the skimmer. Can you tell me what that will entail ? Thank you

    Great re do , Pond Digger Dude.
    Why did you decide to bring in the cement or cinder block? to create the edge of the pond as opposed to larger rocks/boulders ?

    • @ThePondDigger
      @ThePondDigger  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Patrick Fitzsimmons We used the cinder block as the back drop because it was fast, easy, affordable and compact for the situation. They won't be seen after the installation so they didn't need to be a hot looking rock wall

    • @ThePondDigger
      @ThePondDigger  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Sarah Perine They have dogs that patrol the backyard, an owl statue and a motion sensor sprinkler device. So far so good. Thank you for the compliment.

    Quick question tho, what happens to the waterfall during winter? Would it freeze?(I live in CO)

    • @ThePondDigger
      @ThePondDigger  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      SephCat74 In CO you may need to shut the pond down in the winter. There are some winterizing procedures you will want to learn when you build in cold climates.

    • @ashlynwanderer
      @ashlynwanderer 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ThePondDigger problem is that they'll most likely be eaten, dead from a chemical imbalance, or permanently stunted by then.. also, it's not easy to pawn big fish off on people, and whats moe that means that the fish you gave her were a failure/not permanent solution, just like the previous pond.
