- Thread your sewing machine the right way. Learn to sew by properly threading your sewing machine. This demo uses my Singer Brilliance 6180 Sewing Machine. We all want to sew happy and that starts with threading your sewing machine. In this video, I am showing you how to thread the top part of your machine as though you are someone who has never threaded a sewing machine or sewn a stitch.

Patty, I'm a 36 year old Dad and have only ever hand stitched things (buttons, rips, patches every once in a while). My step-daughter got a Singer Brilliance for Christmas a few years ago and unfortunately no one taught her how to use it. I told her to bring it home and I'd figure it out. The manual wasn't too much of a help. But YOU were. Thanks for your videos. We're up and running and if I dare to say it, I think I like sewing more than my daughter! We'll be doing custom masks for the rest of our kids soon.

Thank you so much Myriam!! I do try my best to be thorough and I teach this exactly the same way as I would in an in person class. I can also add that if you are having trouble with your machine sewing, just pull out the upper thread and rethread. Sometimes the upper thread gets way off and your tension goes out the window. It's a small thing to thread correctly, but getting it right means the difference between an enjoyable session or a huge frustration.

Thank you soooo much!! I'm really happy I had something that answered your question! I'm on a little hiatus of filming while I get my summer harvest put away and the fall produce started. I struggle to sew and work through my garden this time of year, and this summer I decided to just do my best. But videos will restart in a month or so. I do film shorts to keep in touch with everyone, so you can always check the short tab to see something recent.

I'm so happy to hear it Irene! I have really enjoyed using this machine, and use it for most everything. My spare is having a mechanical problem, so now this little Singer is my only machine. Experimenting with the tension dial, using quality thread, and making sure you use the correct thread for the horizontal thread spool is critical. Changing machine needles and keeping the machine cleaned will help you to have many pleasant sewing experiences.

I've watched other TH-camrs and didn't have an interest to finally start sewing small things. Since I was in the third grade I would draw Barbie Dolls and love creating fashion design but never learn how to sew. Watching your video this morning encouraged me to start teaching myself so eventually, I will feel comfortable cutting very nice fabric. I will continue following you and again thank you. Paula
Oh my gosh, Paula!! You're so welcome!! Sewing and quilting is very much like learning to play an instrument, so practice builds the skills and learning from mistakes or challenges is key to growing and developing the creative muscle. The biggest thing I can offer is to say, don't be afraid to make mistakes, because it is a learning opportunity. And don't let a set back stop you. To get better, we have to keep working on our skills and trying new things. Definitely start out with less expensive materials, and get your technique down pat before venturing into $20 and $30 a yard fabrics. Joann on sale is your best friend, and even then it get's pricey! But it's a wonderful hobby and so much satisfaction to be had in having a fun and rewarding hobby. Welcome aboard! I generally only do quilting and home decor projects and small bags, so I hope you will try some of that, too!
I haven't used the auto needle threader for 2 years because I could not get it to work. You showed me how with this fantastic video! Thank you so much!!!
Oh my gosh!! I do hope you have success with it! The needle has to be in it's highest position for it to work, so if you are having trouble. turn the hand wheel a little back and forth to get it in the correct spot. Good luck!
That is a nice tutorial video on how to thread the machine and I have to practice on the new machine I just purchased and learn how to do it correctly and then quickly also. Thanks for sharing with us this video and I hope it helps others like it has helped me.

I found when I was learning, people went so fast, I had trouble understanding what they were doing. So I keep that in mind when I make tutorials for people. I'm really glad it helped you.

I'm so happy to hear this!! It can be tricky. I have discovered that some needles are disagreeable with the auto threader, so if you run up against some difficulty getting it to work, it's probably the eye of the needle not being big enough. Interestingly enough, I had this issue crop up while using Singer needles on my Singer machine. The Schmetz have never given be that issue, but the store was out of the Schmetz.
Pattymac Makes oh never thought of that with the needle eye being small. Thinking about it I guess it it’s I think I will order Schmetz. Thank you for the tip
@@patriciaalexander4333 I had not run across that issue, but I had such a hard time using the threader on the new machine when I changed the needle, I can only figure that it's due to the size of the eye.

Thank you so much, this video was very useful. I didn't know about the last guide above the needle, and the warning about keeping the foot up while threading I broke 2 needles when I started using the Singer 6180 .
I'm so glad it help you Stella! If you broke a couple of needles, you might want to consider replacing your bobbin case. The needles likely hit the bobbin case and that caused them to break. It can cause a scratch or dent in the bobbin case which impacts how the machine sews. I did something wacky and bent a needle. I replaced the bobbin case and the needle again at the same time. It worked much better after that. I never knew about the tension discs and presser foot until I read that book I shared. I love that book and if you can get a copy, I do recommend it!

My threader works when it feels like it or I luck out on occasion. I've asked others on youtube who have my machine & most have given up & do it manually. That hole is so tiny I struggle & it turns me off to sewing sometimes. Confession I haven't done a whole lot & it makes me sad. But online there is a whole tut series for my machine as I don't understand the manual much & those vids have been so helpful. When I'm not sewing I put the presser foot down on the thread so there's no chance of it coming out of the needle when dusting or moving things around. I figured that out one day when I had just threaded it & hubs moved it for me to another place & had to struggle all over again....ack. As usual great vid, Patty. Tfs :)
It might be that the needle is not in the perfect position to accept the threader. And holding the thread with light tension to the right and rear of the throat plate really helps. Don't give up Kathy! Machines require tinkering to figure them out and to get them to run just right. Maybe you haven't tinkered quite enough with yours yet to figure it out. I'm going to film my first real sewing project videos this week, so maybe that will get you inspired to try working with it a little more. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! Is there a reason why NOBODY shows how to mount the bobbin in these machines? That’s what’s making mine jam, and nobody shows to how properly set that up.
I have a video on how to load bobbins. th-cam.com/video/3BWyE1pwjlQ/w-d-xo.html and also this one th-cam.com/video/3Ke62SdFe6A/w-d-xo.html The reason the two are separated is because it's a separate task. Threading the upper housing is a separate action from loading the bobbin. And bobbins are generally front or top loading which is completely different from one another....while newer machines are mostly threaded the same way. It sounds like you have tension problems which could be from a number of issues, one of which is using cheap thread. Even old thread is a problem. And if your work is doing what we call bird nesting on the underside of your sewing, that's actually a tension issue with your upper housing. I don't know if you can alter that unless you buy a new foot pedal and try using that instead. I'm switched to a Patchwork machine since I made this video and it has the ability to slow down the stitching so the foot pedal is easier to control. I hope that helps.

Hello Patty! I am a VERY beginner and I was given this machine for my birthday. I have never used a sewing machine before and this video helped me get the thread through the needle but my experience stops there and every time I try to test stitch, the thread ends up in a big knot under the presser foot and no stitch goes in the fabric. Is there possibly another video of yours that you can suggest that goes like from threading the machine to making the first stitch. I'm not sure if I am missing something that I need to do with the thread after I get the needle threaded but my machine did not come with a user's manual just a quick set up sheet which has me completely lost. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Hi Jennifer! Did you load up the bobbin? You have to have both the upper housing and bobbin threaded for the machine to sew. If you're still have trouble, you might need a fresh needle or new bobbin. Or you might want to buy better quality of thread and make sure your thread tension is in the recommended range to start. Is the presser foot in the down position? See if any of those help and let me know!
I was wondering, what do we do after we get it through the eye of the needle? Because I see you putting the string like under the thing that is under the needle, but I can’t figure out what to do.
That is the bobbin. You have to thread the machine upper housing and you need the bobbin thread. The machine interlocks the threads above and below to make the stitches. If you don't have both of them threaded, the machine will not sew. You won't have any stitches.

I hope it shows you what you're interested in seeing. I'll be doing Easter and spring projects for a bit after this, but I'll work the Kenmore in at some point, Frank. I don't want to be a super technical channel, so I have to space out this kind of thing with projects and tutorials. Otherwise, it's not as fun.
I been putting off for three years new machine now I'm ready to make mask don't have thread,it's hard for me to thread that eye so thank you so much for pointing that out..I'm still waiting on thread I order n April now it's coming in July ,by that time I'm not gone want to see,Lol I guess I'll make grandsons a fit they both 1in a half
Oh my gosh that's a long time to wait for thread. The needle threader takes a little practice, but once you get the hang of it you will love using it.
Hey I am a beginner! And I just wanted to ask if the "bobbin" does anything or can I leave it without thread?
Mauricio, you can't sew without thread on your bobbin! LOL It absolutely will not work. The thread from the top and from the bobbin down below interlock and that's what makes your stitch. So if you don't set up your bobbin you're just poking holes in the fabric with the machine needle.

My needle threader won’t go around the needle..I pull it all the way down and try to turn it to hug the needle and it won’t and I’m scared I’ll break it if I push to hard.
You don't want to force it. Definitely not. Gently turn your hand wheel forward and back until it lines up. Take it slow and when you get the needle in the right position, it will work. If you are struggling it's not in the right position. Take your time with it. It take a little practice to get used to using it.
Hi Pattymac, thanks for taking the time to make such an informative video, it's way more helpful than the official Singer one! Just to clarify, after threading the needle, you can leave the end of the thread trailing? I am a complete amateur, but i just assumed that there would be some sort of take-up mechanism at the other end in order to maintain tension in the thread?
Yes, you leave it long. That and the bobbin thead. You trim the threads down when you are done sewing and then clean up the tails. Machines are different, but that's how these little singers run. You can hold the tails and gently give them a little tension, pulling from the back and away from the machine to get the seam going and that will provide a little tension to start. I mostly quilt and sew on and off tabs which both catch the first part of the seam to even out the tension and actually use less thread in the long run. I hope that answers the question!! Make sure you seat the thread on the correct spool and run some scraps through to test the function .

hello patty not sure if you’ll respond but i have the same singer brilliance 6180 , not sure if they tweaked it recently but my automatic needle threader is just not budging !! it’s not letting me pull it back what should i do 🤔 it didn’t come with a book just a manuel with pictures and a qr code that sends u to a video link which just tells you to look at the guide but i don’t understand the guide 😭🙄 would i just take the needle out itself and do it ?
Sometimes that little hook gets bent and it's impossible to get it lined up again. If you have a sew vac store, you could probably take it in for an adjustment, but otherwise, you'll have to thread by hand.

You're welcome Annie! This machine is not really suited to do applique work. You would want a programmable machine to create monograms and they are significantly more expensive than a small Singer machine. I don't sew either one of those things so I can't really offer any suggestions, but you can search for best sewing machines to make monograms. I hope that helps!
Hi is it working for industry
This is designed for hobby or home sewing.
I have it threaded and set up the bobbin but when start sewing my fabric is getting caught up with the bobbin then gets stuck please help 😭( I am a beginner this is my 3 day trying to figure it out 😂)
I"m not sure that enough information for me to trouble shoot it. lol Is your threading bunching up or only the fabric? What kind of fabric and thread are you using? You do need a particular needle/thread/fabric combination for things to work. Also the presser foot makes a difference.
Couldn't see what you're doing when using the auto threading. Much better demo if you used BLACK COLOR TREAD!

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, but the Brilliance and Patchwork both have decorative stitches that are scallop shapes. I hope that helps.
I keep getting birds nest, tension correct I think, it's on 5, button tension good and bobbin threaded correct,. This usually starts at the beginning when I reverse. Any tips appreciated its a singer brilliance.... p.s. need needs to be in utmost position for automatic thread:)
I understand that cheap thread can cause a lot of tension issues, so review your thread. Also old thread is supposed to be really bad news. If you get the bird's nest it's definitely the upper housing thread. I use the tabs before and after when piecing which helps with that issue as well as saves thread, but that doesn't work for every project. 5 is the general tension setting, so I would suggest changing the thread you're using. And maybe dial to 4 and see if it makes any difference. Good luck! I know it can be aggravating.
Hello! I need to get an extra upright feed stick...do you know if they sell them? Like at any craft store or online? Thanks for your amazing videos. I love my sewing machine.
I'm guessing you're talking about a spool stand? To hold the thread off the machine? Thread Nanny has them. I haven't used them, personally, but I have a colleague who swears by loading thread off the machine. It's a more specialized product, so I don't think you'll find it in a basic craft store. If you have a local fabric store or quilt shop, they would probably have them. Or maybe a sewing machine store if you have one available. The machine store or quilt shop would have the best advice on that kind of product. Thanks your watching! I appreciate it!
Can I use twin needle on singer brilliance?
Will it be only for the straight stitch?

I don't know because I've never used that on my machines. I would say the double needle is definitely only for straight stitches and you want to make sure you have the correct presser foot. I would guess if you can thread it correctly, the double needle should work, but I can't honestly answer the question.

You're welcome! I'm glad it's helpful. I am not sure about a twin needle. You can search for the the machine manual on google if you don't have a printed version and see what it says about twin needles. It's a very light weight machine so I would not recommend sewing jeans or denim on it if that's what you're interested. You would need to move up to a heavy duty machine to sew materials like that.

Hi Patty! I bought this machine few days ago and when I was trying all differents stitches I realized that some of them dind´t look like in sample drawings. I observed that the needle doesn ´t move to the left from the central position so the machine do correctly the stitches throught the right side but no throught the left side. I don ´t know if I am doing something wrong because I am a starter seamstress or maybe my new machine is deficient and isn ´t working right. Thank you so much and sorry for my english, I ´m from Spain 🙂
Hi Carmen! I sounds like there may be something wrong with the machine. Can you move the needle manually to the left and right? Do you know how to do that? Try that first and let me know if it works.
I think your English is great! I'm sorry I don't know Spanish.
You should be able to type in the stitch number and have it sew just like the picture. Try to move the needle first. Select a straight stitch with is 00 using the left arrows and will show up in the left side of the window. Press the left and right arrow on the right key panel to see if your needle moves left and right of center. I hope I explained that well enough. Let me know!

Hi can I ask how to put the presser foot back on I did it before but now I don't know I can get it to fit I don't know if any parts are missing ty
Sheila, you line up the bottom of the shank with the bars on the presser foot. Lower it gently into place and the presser foot should snap back in.
I am stuck on the thread guide on the bottom you said ? I can't see in your video what it looks like or how to wrap the thread
I don't exactly understand which area is the issue. Try to follow the illustrations on your machine as it will show you where and how to thread your machine. I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you.
Patty my thread seems to keep popping i change the tension but it continues to pop please help
When this happens..and it is pretty common, so don't worry...we need to try a few different things. First, I would put in a fresh needle and make sure you're using a needle appropriate to the project you're sewing. Then rethread the machine top and bottom. Make sure the pressure foot is in the up position so the thread sits correctly in the tension discs. You might need to replace the bobbin completely. I would toss the bobbin you have in there, get a new one and start fresh there as well. If you have a bobbin case like in this Singer, go ahead and get a new bobbin case. Make sure you have the right bobbin for your machine. Do all of these things first.Then, just sew two pieces of basic quilting cotton together. Use an 80/11 needle and see what your stitching looks like. When you have a fresh needle and bobbin pieces, then you can tell if you need a tension adjustment. What are you trying to sew? You want to make sure you have the right needle for the job. I hope that helps! I know it seems like a lot of fiddling around, but that is part of sewing. It's like tinkering on a car. Let me know what happens!
Hello. Having a problem with the fabric wanting to bunch up in the beginning. Raise the presser foot, place fabric close to needle , drop presser foot. Start to sew and fabric gets chewed up and bunched. Can you help? Thanks
Rachel, I use small tabs of fabric to start my sewing and that helps when I get to the project fabric. I use heavy cotton called quilting cotton. Depending on your fabric, it could be more challenging to feed through the machine. Also, I sew small house wares and quilts so that is a little different than garment sewing. Can you provide a little more information? Like what is the fabric you're using and what project you're sewing? I'll try to help.
@@PattymacMakes we are using cotton ( jelly roll). I did try to use the fabric for the start( runner) and sometimes it works and other times it don't. Could the needle be the problem?It's just very frustrating to start a project and have so many starts from the beginning. It's a process I know. Thank you for any insight.

It could be a few things. Are you using good quality thread? That's a BIG issue. If you are using cheap thread, that generally causes a lot of issues. Do you have the correctly wound thread for the horizontal thread spool? You need the taller cone style thread for it to feed correctly. Did you change your needle? Is it the right needle for the fabric you are trying sew? Did you adjust thread tension? I would start with the thread issue. If you are using that cheap polyester thread, I would toss it out and invest in good quality thread. The correct thread depends on the fabric and type of projects you want to sew. I sew almost exclusively with woven cotton, so I sew with cotton thread. I hope this gives you a starting point.
Pattymac Makes Good afternoon Patty. So I watched a few of your videos. I noticed I didn’t put thread on the front load compartment for the metal bobbin so I opened it out and I moved the black levers that keep the bobbin in place and the whole thing came out and now I don’t know how to put it back in. I thought I put it in correctly and when I put my foot in the petal for the thread the need broke. Can you please do a video on how to put all the bobbin metal pieces back together. All the metal came off in the bobbin compartment. I don’t know what to do. Please help. I have the same Singer brilliance 6180
Pattymac Makes I figured it out. I even went to the singer repair shop to figure out as to why the thread kept bunching up.

Patty, I have a question. I just purchased my first Singer 1680 machine and noticed that when I turn it on, it makes a weird noise and the needle shifts around. Is this normal?
That's just the machine turning itself on. My brilliance did the same thing! My Patchwork does too, but not as loudly as the Brilliance. You should be fine!

@@krrimy They all make that racket when they start up! My Brilliance is SUPER loud but the Patchwork isn't. The Patchwork is basically an upgraded version of the Brilliance.

How to use this machine with a twin needle? I always break them
I've never used a twin needle so I'm not able to answer that question.I would make sure you're using the correct presser foot and make sure the needle is installed high enough in the housing to not strike the bobbin. I'm sorry I don't have more information.
Can you thread this machine with a twin needle?
I don't sew with those, so I don't know for sure. But I would think that if you can get the machine threaded correctly it should work. But keep in mind this is a rather light weight machine so if you are sewing jeans or heavy bags, this particular machine will struggle.
Ive had this sewing machine for over a year and I can't get the self threader to work There is no hook going through the eye of the needle. I even checked at JoAnn Fabrics at their display and they have no hook going thought the eye of the needle either. Wow so disappointing. I have been researching on TH-cam this whole time. Am I the only one that can't figure this out?
Sometimes the hook gets moved out of place and the "self threader" feature doesn't work. This has happened on my Heavy Duty Singer. You will have to thread it yourself which is what I do when I use my heavy duty. I haven't seen the Brilliance in Joann but I have seen Patchwork which is basically an upgraded model of the Brilliance. Are you able to self thread?
I tried the portable self threaders they are too big to go thru the eye of the needle. I tried a lighted magnifier glass and still couldn’t get the thread to go through the eye of the needle.
@@sherryestabrook2255 It's so tricky!! I do find that snipping the end with a fresh cut just prior to threading really helps. Also putting the presser foot down AFTER you have threaded the upper housing will hold the thread in place making it slightly easier. But it is difficult if you're having trouble seeing what you're doing. You might try a pair of higher powered readers from the drug store to make it easier to see. Even if you don't really need something like that, you might find it super helpful with your sewing. I hope this helps!!!
I tried turning the wheel toward myself to lift the needle more and after some trial and error, the self threader moved in place!

the auto threading isn’t working it keeps either breaking or just not going through is there anything that I’m missing cause honestly I’ve been watching for two days now trying to do it and it’s not working 😢
I'd have to see it to know for sure. You might have to thread it manually. I have a machine like that.

@@PattymacMakes I say that because the needle pierced through and got stuck in my thumb while I was unscrewing the presser foot holder to switch to a walking foot. The presser foot was down, the machine was on and I accidentally touched the button on my machine to start sewing. I'm still surprised the needle came out in one piece.

HI Teresa!! Well, they are buying machines here as fast as they put them out. So it's a challenge. I got my machine last May in Lidl, so you may want to be monitoring Lidl where you are. I would assume we have similar stock around the same time of year. I think it's more money in Spain, but then again, I saw Michael's here is carrying them, and for more than twice what I paid last year in Lidl. People in the states have been absolute maniacs when it comes to sewing supplies...machines, elastic, bias tape etc. I have not bought any craft supplies since February when I was last in the Joann Fabric here. So I don't know what it looks like in there these days. I would be watching the weekly flyers from Lidl closest to you and if the machine comes up again, be there before the store opens to get one. It's a light weight machine, but I have been overall very happy with it.

@@teresalauigan4722 Hi Teresa! Yes try Lidl. I know you have them in Spain. It really is a nice little machine. It's not for heavy sewing, but I love the decorative stitches. If you can find a Patchwork, also from Singer, that is a great machine. I used that one as the demonstration machine when I taught sewing. It's a little more expensive than this one, but it's better made and with more stitches and features. Patchwork has a drop in bobbin which I think is easier to use. But now that I'm used to the bobbin case I don't mind it. I was freaked out when I first saw it. I have videos every week! I like to post twice a week, but I'm a little run down from the virus news and the quarantine etc, so I only have one this week. I'm only human and sometimes I just can't keep up the heavy uploads. I love making and sharing videos and information here, but I do all of this and a website by myself. So sometimes I need a little break. But I definitely have more machine information coming and I have project tutorials planned.
@@PattymacMakes yeah, my mom got 1 of this brillance and i ve tried it when my mom was still here in Spain,, than she went back to the philippines yr 2018,, forgood you know,, she s so old now and she really missed our farm house ,, than she left this machine with me here in spain,, but when all her old client always asking her to start her sewing career again and there she is,,she called me through messenger asking me a favor if i can send her the machine to the philippines 🙄🙄 so i did ,,and here i am ,,so bored ,, lockdown , staying home with my daughter and granddaughter ,, so here,, i ve something to do like sewing ,,though am lil kind of practicing how to make a pattern hahaha ,, my mom is a profecional of dressmaking and tailoring ,, while me? @@teresalauigan4722 OH WOW!!! Dressmaking is such a talent. I sew simple stuff! VERY easy projects. I like to enjoy my hobbies and have something on the easier side to make. Have you considered embroidery? I also do some of that and I LOVE IT. I want to add a little of that, too, but right now I'm getting a lot of traffic over the sewing machine, so I want to keep posting about that. But embroidery is a really nice hobby. And it's portable. You can get stuff in the charity shops and stitch on them if you want to make cool clothes.

You should check the user manual for the machine, but from what I see it has to do with the buttonhole lever. I found this "A: The C2 error message will appear if the Buttonhole Lever is not full engaged. When pulling it down into position, make sure it is all the way down. When finished sewing buttonholes, make sure it is raised all the way up before doing regular sewing." You can always search your machine and the error code to find some answers. The error code appears on page 29. manuals.singer.com/Manuals/RetrievePDF/642 I've never had that problem so I don't know how to advise you to fix it, but you should be able to search for it using this information. I hope that helps!

That's awfully nonspecific. I can't help you if you don't elaborate on the question. And to be honest, you have to really look at your own machine and instructions to know exactly what to do. And physically do it. You can learn to sew by watching videos. You have to do it.

No my eye sight is bad. I’ve used a lighted magnifying glass with no luck. Plus I tried using a hand held threader and it wouldn’t fit into the eye of the needle.
That makes it really difficult! Have you tried the high powered readers from the drug store? I have found them to be quite helpful, and having extra light really helps. @@PattymacMakes I have a question for you. I just started sewing with the machine you have here. I dont know alot so I didnt know what to buy. I just noticed I grabbed a 100%heavy duty polyester thread and using with the universal needle that come with the machine.. Im sewing masks with 100 cotton and it keeps jamming. Is it because of the thread do u think? Or can I just change the needle and keep using the thread?
@@najasstaslays3094 I will tell you that this little machine struggles to sew masks. They are so many thicknesses of fabric, and this is a light weight machine. I stopped sewing them, because it was too much and I did not want to tear up the machine. That said, I prefer a high quality cotton thread. The thread can make a big, BIG difference in the way a machine operates. I switched to the PIMA thread from Bluprint, and it's expensive to start, but it lasts a very long time and is cheaper in the end. But if you want to see the difference a good thread will make, Gutterman is widely available. Get the cotton thread rated for sewing quilting cotton which is about a 50 weight. Also, it matters how the thread is spooled. If you are using a standard type thread spool it's going to give you endless difficulty. You need the thread wound on a tall skinny spool because this machine is a horizontal load. You will never get proper tension if the upper housing is not threaded with the presser foot up. I would experiment sewing just two thicknesses of cotton and get your stitches right on that first. Then try working with the masks. As it is right now, we don't know why you are having the problem, so start with something simple. Sew some scraps until you can get those to sew neatly and easily. Try the good thread, rewind the bobbin, rethread the machine and see what happens. It can be frustrating when you start, but have faith!! Once you get the hang of this part, you can start putting things together and enjoy the process. Personally, I did not find masks an enjoyable project. That is not an easy first sewing project. So..don't be too hard on yourself if you find it difficult. They ARE hard to sew. I don't care what anybody says.
@@PattymacMakes Thank you so very much for your response. I actually think its quiet easy sewing the masks ONLY when the machine doesn't get jammed. I enjoy sewing so much! I will definitely go look for the thread you mentioned. When I thread the machine the presser foot is always up until the second I thread the needle. I didnt know there was different weights of 100%cotton. I have so much to learn and Im super excited. I bought another machine about three days before this one its the Brother SM1400 but I was having problems after a while going over the seams even with fabric in the back lifting it so it didnt have to make a huge jump. I paid 100 for the brother and 150 for the Singer. I wish I could find better machines but everything is sold out everywhere I just got lucky. If I could find one id pay a bit more but again this is all I could find. Any recommendations for when they are back in stalk?
@@najasstaslays3094 You're so welcome!! I know how upsetting it can be to have something not working and you feel all alone with it. And YES!!! There is so much to sewing. So many layers and levels. Which is why I think it's such a great hobby. You can always be learning more and more and you have so many possibilities about what you can make. If I were you, I would sew on these machines for a while and figure out what kind of sewist you want to be. You might want to sew your own clothes, you might want to sew home decor items, you might want to take up quilting. You might want to sew bags or dolls. There is SO MUCH!! So I would suggest you take the next year and use these machines and try all kind of things. I will be uploading small projects and tutorials coming up. Right now, I'm trying to get all or most all of the technical stuff filmed and uploaded. Once I have all that in place, I want to start sharing small projects. It is so important to find YOUR sewing personality. If you do want to take up clothes or jeans or heavy bags, the heavy duty singer machine gets great reviews. My friend who do a lot of Cosplay just got one in a special Cosplay edition, so that is also something to consider. I sincerely hope this helps you get things working smoother. I think you will notice a huge improvement when you switch thread! My coworker in the class department at Joann (I taught sewing and knitting there) used to sell sewing machines, and she told me that if you use crappy thread it doesn't matter how nice the machine is. You will still have trouble. So Keep me posted!!!!
There’s a part at the beginning of the video where I can’t see what you’re doing from the camera angle, the shot of the needle and thread is cut off and you can’t see what you’re talking about. I saw a couple other people mention this but I’m just letting you know they meant no hate :) you genuinely can’t see a portion of what you’re doing due to the camera angle.
