Rick, was that teacher Mrs Monk? She taught in Orillia. Had her for grade 10 English up there, the one story she would tell, about this student who was a "brilliant writer named little Ricky Emmett, who wasted his writing talent and joined a Rock & Roll band". After class, I went up to her and said you had made it, even had two albums out at the time and were a huge Canadian talent. Then told her Rik was a great lyric writer. She smiled and seemed happy he was writing lyrics. Asked me the name of the Band and albums. She was a very nice lady and Rik obviously made quite the impression.
Rik Emmett : LEGEND !!!!!
Triumph helped me get thru my Army service stationed in Okinawa for 2 years. I had all their albums up to that point in 1982 and thats all I listened to.
"You have a gift...you're not special, but the gift is special, and you have to respect the gift". BAM
What is it with Canadian rockers all being so well spoken, thoughtful and freakishly talented ?
Love hearing Rik tell his stories, he’s so wonderfully articulate and genuine.
Love listening to his interviews
"Not to buff myself too much" classic...I could listen to Rik tell stories all day, intelligent, interesting dude.
I feel like I have been waiting all my life for all these stories. Triumph was my favorite band (in a more or less tie with VH) in high school. Listened to them daily. But I always have craved information about what really went down in writing songs and in touring and in making records. But a fan basically has to wait until an artist is at a place in their life where they can safely tell their stories and not piss off managers and bookers and agents. I think Rik is at this spot in life now and I am all ears! Thanks for the interview John.
Phenomenal song for sure. Awesome!
Great interview! Its great because you let the guest do most of the talking. Ric is so gifted.
Cool dude, love the detail and passion as he describes the guitar notes and chords.
Rik is totally THE TRUTH...I have loved his work since I was in high school in the 70's.
I am really enjoying this interview with Rik Emmett. He tells some great stories and is a very articulate person. Yes, he has contributed some great music for us to enjoy through the year's. A million thanks Rik, you are a class act.
I subbed with a cover band in Phoenix a few years ago and we got to do this song live...and people went NUTS. Fantastic song and band. They don't get enough love, so great interview as always John!
I love these behind the scene (songs) interviews where you get such background! I was in highschool when that song came out & indeed was always a huge standout jam!
Amazing band song album and video!💯
Rik's Guitar Player magazine column taught me power chords. Those columns were priceless beyond measure.
probably my favorite rock star, the music, the man, Rick Emmett, Thanks for a great soundtrack of my life
Tim Jeff and Gil are so so underrated! I stole rock and roll machine from my sister and Iron Maiden’s first album! Absolutely love triumph! We need more bands like them again!!!!!!
Triumph should be in the Rock n Roll HOF. Such a disappointment they aren't in!!! Happy I was able to see them at NJ Meadowlands in my senior year of 85.
Great person and musician.
Love the questions John.
The first song by Triumph I ever heard back in 1980
Thaks rik for the info
My favorite Triumph song
Rik you are a incredible inspiration to me. I'm now 55 and friend's with Johnny Rutledge and it suck we are now getting old. I can book you in Chicago Rivers Casino.
Joey That Guy Film on TH-cam
Rik looks like he’s talking into the mic in the “Rock History Music’s” logo! 🗣 🎙
Saw triumph when I was 13 at the gardens . A lazer show that rivals Pink Floyd . Rick's voice is probably the best in 80's rock standing with halllford and emit !!
Triumph never got the credit they deserved.
He definitely has many stories.
Very good interview John! One of my favorites!
An interesting discussion. Ty
Love
Love Triumph
Great interview . Same old Rik patting himself on the back and staying humble .
That looks Ike the exact guitar Rik played during the US Festival
When this came out, I thought they were pretty boys. Saw them in concert in Madison, WI and was blown away. Wow!!
Stairway was rip off of Dolly partons song from 1975
