I am and have been a huge fan of Rik for years. I saw Triumph back in the day. I have seen Rik with Dave Dunlap twice. He is a huge influence on my own guitar playing. His music touches me.

First time I have heard Rik speak directly about his religious upbringing and his thoughts on the afterlife or lack of the afterlife! I feel the same and that is probably why I was attracted to his lyrics from the start. We can either focus on our lives here and now and make them better or we can despair of that and just wait to die for a promised fairy tale life in the next world. Our world would truly be better if we had more people that adopted the first attitude.

3:42 His description of a Hammond B3 with the Leslie is the most accurate I have ever heard.

Great interview, one of the most inspirational songs I feel ever written was "Fight The Good Fight". Rik was talking about leaving a mark that is one of those polished diamonds. The lyrics, music, and the way it was sang with conviction. Thank you for the Diamond!

I’ve seen Triumph 3 times, I think. Maybe four. Anyway, I’m a big fan and have all of their albums except the last one. And I have them on vinyl! I respect very much aril’s beliefs. However, I believe that even if you believe in the holy trinity, we still have to work hard to make this life the best it can be. I don’t think that anyone should live thinking that the next life is better. We all owe it to ourselves and the people who we love and that love us to live well and have as great of a life as we can. Great interview John! I’ve already listened to the whole thing on RHB. You do a wonderful job with everyone you speak with. Thank you!

Mr. Levine took one for the team! There aren't a lot of Triumph songs where the keyboards are significant, but I always felt this was one. From the lonely, opening counter melody, to the pulsing, sequencer bit that follows it, and the B3 they're speaking of here, it's part of what makes this song sound so damn good.

I love Rik but a little bummed he feels death is the end. Lately I've been watching a lot of near death experience videos, and collectively there's a very compelling case that death isn't the end. That doesn't mean you don't work to make life on earth the best it can be, but I'm hopeful we move on. After all, I'd like to continue listening to Triumph and my other favorite bands beyond this world.

I enjoy Triumph’s music and enjoy listening to Mr. Emmett. And I do respect every person‘s opinion especially when it comes to religion. I must say, as a Catholic, I would be remiss if I didn’t, humbly, correct Mr. Emmitt’s viewpoint on Catholics. Yes, Mr. Emmett, we believe the next life is better-we will be with the Lord. However, Catholics strive to make ‘this’ life better and to make ourselves better. Simply we strive to be priest-like to live a better life here and now. “I know there's a time for living I'm aware of that we all must die.”-GM

You can’t “correct” someone’s viewpoint, no matter how Catholic you are.

Great interview, I love Triumph and also Rik's solo stuff, he is one of my favorite guitar players. With that said, is he trying to say an agnostic wrote Magic Power, Fight the good Fight and never surrender, how does that happen?

If one is "given a gift" then it has to come from someone else. I was unaware that Rik is agnostic and it saddens me to find this out. It is perfectly fine to say "I don't know" when one has no evidence. However, Christianity and the existence of a Creator God is literally teeming with evidence.
I pray he changes his mind before he passes on.

There it is. The question I've been wondering about since the 1980s. Because Rik used Bible references in his music I've always wanted to know if he truly believes in God. What a shame to hear his answer. He missed a huge opportunity to reach millions of fans for Christ. Where do you go when we die ? HEAVEN AND HELL.
