I think the plan is to keep the people ignorant and poor. That way the "Unitet Oligarcs of America" can get soldiers to fight wars for them. When people dont know anything, they can be told everything. Like... That rest of the world dont have electricity, cars, phones, internet etc . In Italy we call the continent Oceania not Australia, Australia is a country, i know in English you use Australia to define the continent too but it's very confusing.😅
I’m from the UK. When I was at school it was called Australasia, but I haven’t heard that term used for a while. I have heard Oceania as well. I think the people of New Zealand would have something to say about calling the continent Australia.
@@susanpearson-creativefibro Actually, scientists, only a year or two ago identified the continent of Zealand, where the tectonic plate, New Zealand sits on is separate, from the one Australia is on. It has not been pushed out widely yet but we may see a change in education books in a few years.
Interesting, yet moronic thesis. In Europe, as in most countries of the world, teachers are worried about race, gender, and Palestine AND they can and do still teach children how many continents there are and the mere basics of things one does need to know…
@@Attirbful even if that’s true, it’s not the job of teachers to bring politics into the classroom even if they were giving both sides of the argument, which they don’t.
@@Bertie22222 It is not the jobs of teachers to be mindless, opinionless, or colorless either. They must have opinions and ethics and passions in order to teach students to form their own opinions. About the continents, when I was in school, I learned that there were only 5 continents: Europe, Asia, America, Africa and Australia. We learned that South America and North America were not individual continents but that they were part of 1 single continent: America. Antarctica wasn't considered as a continent. Anyone else?
We learned 7, including the Arcticas, but it is debated, how many continents there are. I hear a lot of people mentioning Oceania, where we learned it was called Australia 😅
Same thing😉i'm french 56 years old and i learned 7 continents. But there IS two version, even 3 on thé continent numbers...i stay on 7 more logical : America, eurasia, arctique, antarctique,Africa and Australia

In one of his debunking videos, a US american guy (read until the end and you'll see why I'm so certain of his nationality) felt butthurt because he was shown he'd been wrong all his life and wrote this comment: "I bet he (the youtuber) voted for Biden". My geography of the USA is not great never having travelled much outside of the UK but I do know that the Capital of Washington State is Olympia, Huston is the Capital of Texas and the areas that comprise New York simply from information picked up by living. I left school 44 years ago! Not to even know the difference between a continent, Europe, and a country! The mind boggles.
European people do think that AMERICANS are a bit uninformed,,,,,,, not their fault,,,,I blame it entirely on the AMERICAN EDUCATION SYSTEM, the one thing that angers me is that awful phrase used by some people in America and it’s their constant use of the phrase AFRICAN AMERICAN,,,,,,, AFRICA is an entire continent,,,with many Countries and as many cultures, it’s time this lazy description of AFRICA STOPPED.
Okay, if we speak about a person that's younger than 25, it might be the school. But you can learn a lot of stuff later in life. 🤷🏽♀️ And yeah, why don't they equally say European -Americans??
It’s not really about laziness on their part. they were brought there as slaves 100s of years ago. As slaves they were cut off from culture and most don’t know exactly where in Africa they taken from. Maybe your anger would be better placed with the slave masters? The term “African American” is used to describe an American of African descent, nothing to do with laziness.
@@DW-py4up Almost a third of all slaves that ended up in America came from the West Indies, not just from Africa, and not all of them were black. tbf the continents depend on where you're taught and when, basically 5-7 could be correct. when i went to school in germany in the 80s we were counting america as one continent, not as two. during my time in school we switched from counting eurasia as one to two. There is even a wikipedia article that shows the differences in counting depending on where you learn it.
Not really but kind of, if a HK person were to fill in a form pre 1997, they would put Hong Kong under country and they also had their own currency, immigration and border controls, education and welfare systems, etc.
Honk kong used to be a British protectorate for 100 yrs. We gave it back to China but they are supposed to run it differently to the rest of China ...however they are eroding some of the rights of the people.
This isn't about geography, it's about general knowledge. American teachers are poorly paid and their schools are badly funded if not in wealthy neighbourhoods so I think it's not just the fault of the kids. Very interesting way of asking questions which is fairer than street interviews.
As a Brit, if someone refers to "America", I assume that they're talking about the US. Otherwise they'd specify "North America", "South America" or "the Americas".
I actually can't laugh at this. It is so sad that the youth of one of the most powerful and influential countries in the world are so ignorant. What on earth are they teaching in USA schools and colleges? Are they teaching anything at all?
The "problem" of Americans is that they live in a coutry that has everything to offer. So, why check out other coutries. On the other hand, it is nice to meet other cultures. Their knoledge is sad, but education has become very bad in The Netherlands. We have your system now.

By the way, the "7 continents" fact is also relative to your definition of "continent". Some countries teach "Eurasia" as one continent, some do/don't consider arctica and antarctica, some even debate if Greenland is one... In my school time (51 years old German) we considered and learned that there are 6 continents (Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, South America and Australia) and some "pseudo-continents", but that just depends on the definition. Europe and Asia are actually one land mass, N and S America were connected until they built the Panama canal...
Hello & much thanks for the shout-out to New York... love your content...!!! To be honest... the interviewer got some of the answers wrong himself. Cuba & Puerto Rico are not in South America. They are islands that are also part of the North American continent. Also, to be fair, he should have more properly worded his question as "name 3 countries" outside of the North American AND the South American continents because most people use the words "America" & the "USA" to mean the exact same thing. 👍🏽
So basically dumb it down for them because they think America is the same thing as USA? Cause they don't know the difference between a country and a continent? That's what got these kids into trouble in the first place.
it would have been even better with the question "name 5 countries" and it would be full of california and new york and then maybe something correct but after that just asia and africa and europe
Hongkong used to belong to the Brits until we gave it back in 1997. And while it is technically part of the republic of china it is classed as a separate region known as a "special administrative region of China" which allows it to have separate economic and governing system to the rest of china.
What is sad but not surprising is how American's struggle so much to name ONE country in Africa, there are 54, Egypt is an easy one, to the South, South Africa (can't get more simple), ask me how many States in the US I will not only say 50, I will mention quite a few, countries in Europe, no problem, Asia no problem, cities in Australia no problem, NZ no problem. Arrogance is one thing, but ignorance another, heck many Americans don't know there are other countries, there are 7 (six if you consider those that are populated),
It's deeper than you think... Even the guy asking the geography question doesn't know the name of the continents. We can still argue if there is 6 or 7 (So is America 1 or 2) but he said several time Australia for one of the continents... However the continent is OCEANIA.
German here. To be fair, if you search long enough, you will find examples like these in every single country. My son is not stupid or ignorant at all, but once I asked him if he knew the capital of Switzerland and his answer was: Sweden. I don’t know what went on in his head at that moment. He has been to Sweden and Switzerland already and knows that both are countries, so one can’t be the capital of the other. But in that particular moment something in his brain was wired a bit differently. Well, it can happen. My point is: If someone had recorded it, people all over the world would now laugh about this stupid German and take my son’s answer as proof that Germany’s school system sucks or that all Germans are dumb or whatever. Where’s the point in that? Where’s the benefit? Maybe we should stop making fun of those who don’t know some basic answers… and instead learn from those who do have answers to important questions?! And maybe we should focus on things that go wrong in our own country instead of pointing fingers to other countries. I think it’s true that the average American knows too little about the rest of the world. As an American you don’t need to know the capital of Denmark or to locate Denmark on a map, but I think you should know that Denmark exists and is a European country. I think you should also know the difference between the EU and Europe, just as you should know the difference between the USA and America. However, we have our own problems in our own countries. What about focusing on them first?!
The sad part is how aggressive some people seem to get, or starting to argue. What counts as a county, you said 'outside of American' - 'I was giving an example'. This shows more problems than not knowing any geography, this is lack of conversational skill
There are 5 to 7 continents, depending on how you count: Africa, Australia (sometimes +Oceania), Antarctica (Arctica is not a continent), North and South America (some refer to as one continent), and Europe + Asia = Eurasia (historically and culturally are 2 but geographical -1). I still do not know how many continents
From the UK. Actually, the guy asking the questions is incorrect in saying that the UK is a country; it's not! It's a union of four separate nations - England. Wales, Scotland and (what was once a province of Ireland, now known as Northern Ireland, which is not even a part of the British land mass. Instead of asking which countries, the question should be "which nation." Also FR, as far as Hong Kong is concerned, it is not a country; it is a tiny area of China that became a British Colony following after the Second Opium War in the 1860's. After the set 99-year period, Hong Kong was handed back to the Chinese.

While Americans in average are probably less educated in geography, I suspect that this app isn't representative and is a den for failing young people (or just very young people) that love wasting time. I even wonder if some of them weren't on drugs considering some replies. In Europe, he asked questions to students who seemed well-balanced and educated. I suspect the average europeans to know less, and the average american to know a little more than those clowns on the video. Even if, once again, I still believe the stereotype to be somewhat true (I'm european).
What app do you mean, Omegle?? And no, it's not about knowing more or less than others. It's about 1. the fields of knowledge 2. the fact that, there are indeed some people (as well as in the USA and Europe) that lack basic knowledge But there are straight up super dumb people in the USA. If your basic knowledge is that horrible, that you can't say the continents (being on dr*gs or not) it is nothing but frightening. Maybe you haven't met people yet that grew up in the USA, I have. Most of them are fine, but some are unbearable. 🤷🏽♀️ Because their lack of knowledge leads to obnoxious behaviour.
This is exactly what I wanted to comment. Now I see you've been faster than I :) That "Omegle" thingy is a nightmare! @@Herzschreiber Of course the kids on Omegle are not representing the whole country. But Europeans know less?? Look at the PISA score: Estonia, Ireland, Switzerland, Finland, UK, Poland, Czechia, Denmark do all come BEFORE the USA. So, saying that "I suspect that average Europeans know less is quite a dumb thing to say as well and just one more reason, people make fun of the USA. And by the way, no, I don't think that people from the USA know more about history either, they should check out the sources before they claim stuff. 🤷🏽♀️😅😊😊😊
@@Alltagundso well, I guess we have got a misunderstanding here. When Xenotypos wrote "Eurpeans know less" he was referring to another video which the guy who made the one where we are here reacting on , before! And the sense of "Europeans know less and Americans a little bit more" makes only sense when comparing those two videos. Because in the first one (which you might not have seen) the "Quizmastter" asked European students hanging around a campus or so, while in this one here he asked kids on Omegle. So the result from those two videos are in no way comparable. Europeans may know a little less than average university students and Americans may know a little more than those Omegle-kids. That was the point.

Hey, annyoying native speaker here, at 7:15 There's a problem. The host, being non native, doesn't clarify what he means by "outside of America." Most native speakers use "America" as a synonym for the USA (the demonym is American). The continents of the Americas are North America and South America. Some peope do still say Alerica to refer to the Americas, but it sounds ambiguous. When people say "The USA is not America" sorry but in English, it is. The continent it's in reffered to as North America. This happens a lot (I'm British, I live in Europe). Non native speakers will double down on this, claiming it's a fact, I have been "corrected" on this many times by learners of English. If you're going to say "outside America" bear in mind, to a native speaker, that sounds like "outside the US." If someone says I am American/I'm from America, the primary unambiguous regular meaning is they're from the US. If I were talking about the continents I would say outside of North America, or outside of THE Americas. TLDR the host ks in the wrong here because the way he phrases the question is confusing.
But they are all little kids maybe in 7th or 8th grade. And they are super anxious and think they have to answer really quickly pushing up their adrenaline levels which block their brains from thinking. You notice with some that after they take a deep breath and start thinking they improve.
Hong Kong used to be leased to the United Kingdom under a 99 year lease. So it was ‘British’ during that time and treated separate from China. The lease expired in 1997 and China took back control. For a few years it was allowed to keep its Western democratic outlook but then China’s Communist leadership got tough and pulled it back in line to be just a Chinese region.
Best way to describe Hong Kong is like a city state. It's a city that is also a sort of mini state. There used to be lots of them in the old times but nowadays they are getting more rare. Even the Hong Kong status is changing as China is trying to absorb it after the British lease ended. There's a few city states left in Europe as well, like Monaco, San Marino, Liechtenstein. they are quite interesting, since they (usually) operate independently of the country they are situated in. They are also called micro-states jthat's why you could consider them a "country".
"A continent is a group of countries". When the interviewer isn't more clever than the test subjects. And he's also maliciously repeating the ambiguous word "america" multiple times to trap them. It's like the internet is sucking basic knowledge and intelligence out of our kids and put it into AI and devices.
Exactly! The interviewer placed Cuba & Puerto Rico on the wrong continent. Also, as you said, he should've known to specify that he was asking for countries outside of North _AND_ South America. Most people use '"America" and "USA" interchangeably. 👍🏽
@@Donnah1979 ... Donnah, thanks for asking...!!! Cuba & Puerto Rico are islands in the Caribbean Sea, which is part of the Central American region. And that region is part of the North American continent. They are not part of South America as the interviewer said. Furthermore, Puerto Rico is not a country - at least not an independent one. It's a self-governing procession of the USA.
Can you share your opinion on why you have this issue within the USA? I am really interested. I have watched several videos about this topic but no one really talks about the cause. I am from a small Eastern European country and when I was a kid, everyone just told me the same explanation, such as great powers like the States, do not need to know about the rest of the world. However, I truly believe that we should learn basic information about the globe, no matter where we live. Thanks.
The most embarrassing part of this is that he actually does that in some kind of private cam to cam conversation. Most videos like this are people that get asked out on the streets so i usually give them the benefit of a doubt, since they might just be nervous since they are out in public in front of cam and mic, so it could just be a mental blackout out of nervousness. But in private chat?!

I think the differentiation between North America and South America as well as the name of the continent of Oceania/Australia might have tripped me up at a young age (because there is a lot more than just Australia there)
You should react to KeroNgb's videos, where he interviews college students on campus. You'll see the bad side of their general knowledge but at the same time you'll see students that get all the answers right. It's actually interesting to observe the demeaneur of ones and the others and how it relates to their knowledge. 🙂
I'm French. Australia isn't a continent for us it's a country part of the Oceania (Australia, New-Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Fiji). Otherwise how do you make the difference between Australia as continent or country ?
To be fair - the continent question is kinda a trick question depending of definition Some count Europe and Asia as one, some even include Africa as well. Same goes for North and South America. So for the question "how many are there" any number between 4-7 is correct

Sad for a superpower that wants to get involved everywhere in the world.
I think the plan is to keep the people ignorant and poor.
That way the "Unitet Oligarcs of America" can get soldiers to fight wars for them.
When people dont know anything, they can be told everything. Like...
That rest of the world dont have electricity, cars, phones, internet etc .
That we ride oxes, camels and elephants and
we all are cummunist, terrorist, rapists, drugdealers or whatever.
Telling them again and again that they are fighting for
freedom, democracy and human rights.
That US is a free country and the only one.
That they are better than everybody in the world.
And then promise to give them free (socialised) healtcare rest of their lives.
That way they have soldiers that dont know what country they are fighting,
who they are fighting against and what they are fighting for.
Add to that, that there is only two parties in US -
a far right and a extreme right. I could go on, but .....!
The trick is that the US has 330 million people, so from all those people it's impossible to not find a few million that are smart and willing to learn.
I feel a bit worried now that we are members of NATO (Swedish).
I have seen/heard/read several statements/interviews with high American NATO leaders and they seem to be on exactly the same level of education when it comes to the outside world as the young people here.
Haha! They don't just "want" they GET involved! And to them it does not matter if they are beeing asked to get involved! They just do... I mean, probably almost all modern conflicts are (in core) instigated BY US and A... They love to create wa rs, outside of their country lines.. I think it's time they habe one INSIDE of their borders! So that they can finally get HOW it feels to live in ruins. And then their OH SO BELOVED soldiers can FINALLY fight where they should: INSIDE of their country! NOT in Afghanistan, NOT in Iraq, NOT in Vietnam.. IN the US and A!
You said the saddest is that these are basic knowledge, but I find it the saddest that they're at the age when they're in some sort of school ( HS or college) and don't know this stuff, while using technology. Like they're not even trying to know, even if it's for cheating at a game. That's sadder. And the fact that they graduated kindergarten.

When I look at others I reassure myself.
Worse than not knowing the answers, these kids don’t even understand the question.
Yep 100% of them don't know know what the question let alone the answer their brain is not training like wtf did American people learn?
In Italy we call the continent Oceania not Australia, Australia is a country, i know in English you use Australia to define the continent too but it's very confusing.😅
I’m from the UK. When I was at school it was called Australasia, but I haven’t heard that term used for a while. I have heard Oceania as well. I think the people of New Zealand would have something to say about calling the continent Australia.
In Spain we call it Oceanía too. I know Australia is big but Samoa, Fiji, Papúa Nueva Guinea, Nueva Zelanda... exist too

From UK also and I learned it as australasia and also Oceania.
When you see videos of teachers in American schools worried more about gender, race, and Palestine, the result is exactly what we've just seen.
Interesting, yet moronic thesis. In Europe, as in most countries of the world, teachers are worried about race, gender, and Palestine AND they can and do still teach children how many continents there are and the mere basics of things one does need to know…
Exactly 100%.

About the continents, when I was in school, I learned that there were only 5 continents: Europe, Asia, America, Africa and Australia. We learned that South America and North America were not individual continents but that they were part of 1 single continent: America. Antarctica wasn't considered as a continent.
Anyone else?
Eurasia, America, Africa, Australia, Antarctica. Still 5.
We learned 7, including the Arcticas, but it is debated, how many continents there are.
I hear a lot of people mentioning Oceania, where we learned it was called Australia 😅
Me too. But I gathered a few years ago that things had changed.
Same thing😉i'm french 56 years old and i learned 7 continents. But there IS two version, even 3 on thé continent numbers...i stay on 7 more logical : America, eurasia, arctique, antarctique,Africa and Australia
In Spain it has always been studied that there are 6 continents...
America is one, from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego.
The Olympic flag only has 5 rings (there are no countries in Antarctica)
I have to go and ask my grand-daughters these questions.. I surely hope they are not as dumb as these young Americans (USA)...
This is really sad and disturbing, I surely hope none of these young ones become politicians.
We've seen recent US presidents getting geography wrong on a few occasions too, so it's not limited to the young.
Can't believe he went for "Auschwitz" (Most notorious concentration camp), when naming countries.
I just watched a video of a youtuber who has a studio and tests things to debunk some of the conceptions about gear that many musicians still have. In one of his debunking videos, a US american guy (read until the end and you'll see why I'm so certain of his nationality) felt butthurt because he was shown he'd been wrong all his life and wrote this comment: "I bet he (the youtuber) voted for Biden". The youtuber is canadian and lives in Canada.
My geography of the USA is not great never having travelled much outside of the UK but I do know that the Capital of Washington State is Olympia, Huston is the Capital of Texas and the areas that comprise New York simply from information picked up by living.
And yeah, why don't they equally say European -Americans??
Hong Kong used to belong to the UK it has now passed to China as a dependency, so it's never really been a country.
It was special administrative region.
Not really but kind of, if a HK person were to fill in a form pre 1997, they would put Hong Kong under country and they also had their own currency, immigration and border controls, education and welfare systems, etc.
I think Hong Kong sort of were a country, but still "belonging" to the UK?
And the UK gave it back to China according to an old agreement.
UK occupied - is maybe only correct answer.
Common sense.

So painful wondering what the education system is like there!! So embarrassing!
I met college students going Europe during 80's. I laught at their lack of basic knowledge and it seems to have got even worse in 40 years.
A continent is most definitely not a group of countries. "Country" is a political determination. "Continent" is a geological determination.
I always think these people must be actors. No one can be this thick
it would have been even better with the question "name 5 countries" and it would be full of california and new york and then maybe something correct but after that just asia and africa and europe
Cuba IS NOT IN SOUTH AMERICA. Is in the Caribbean!
Hongkong used to belong to the Brits until we gave it back in 1997. And while it is technically part of the republic of china it is classed as a separate region known as a "special administrative region of China" which allows it to have separate economic and governing system to the rest of china.
Hong Kong not Hongkong ! 😁
Just my opinion but yearly general knowledge tests should be introduced, starting in the USA because these people don't even learn basic geography
Well, there is a reason why people vote for the orange guy, and it's not good education 🤣🤣🤣
From the UK. Actually, the guy asking the questions is incorrect in saying that the UK is a country; it's not! It's a union of four separate nations - England. Wales, Scotland and (what was once a province of Ireland, now known as Northern Ireland, which is not even a part of the British land mass.
Instead of asking which countries, the question should be "which nation."
Also FR, as far as Hong Kong is concerned, it is not a country; it is a tiny area of China that became a British Colony following after the Second Opium War in the 1860's.

It's about
1. the fields of knowledge
2. the fact that, there are indeed some people (as well as in the USA and Europe) that lack basic knowledge
But there are straight up super dumb people in the USA.

Because in the first one (which you might not have seen) the "Quizmastter" asked European students hanging around a campus or so, while in this one here he asked kids on Omegle. Hey, annyoying native speaker here, at 7:15 There's a problem. The host, being non native, doesn't clarify what he means by "outside of America."
Most native speakers use "America" as a synonym for the USA (the demonym is American).
I see your point but still: California... New York... Miami... Virginia...

You can find people like this in any country.

Eeesh, this is sad. I'm not going to lie and say that the education system here in the UK is perfect, but I could certainly name at least 5 of the continents and 15+ countries by the time I was 11 years old (the start of high school).
Scotland is like a state in a country, the country is UK or GB and not England
I'm French. Australia isn't a continent for us it's a country part of the Oceania (Australia, New-Zealand, Papua New Guinea and Fiji). Otherwise how do you make the difference between Australia as continent or country ?
To be fair - the continent question is kinda a trick question depending of definition
Some count Europe and Asia as one, some even include Africa as well.
Same goes for North and South America.
So for the question "how many are there" any number between 4-7 is correct
