I always did love that "rewrite for 'modern' sensibilities" just means to remove perceived male pandering and replace it with blatant lesbian/bi/gay sexualization and man-hating instead. You'd think they understand that this was a trade down.

These weirdos don’t understand that men have been sexualized in entertainment far longer than women. There was a time when all actors(during the time of theater long before movies came around) were men, so men also played female roles. The men playing male roles were often sexualized to lure in women. Yet, unlike feminists, men don’t complain about this.

More to the point, if He-man was that inspiration he'd be that dangerous one that we talk about all the time in fitness that has teenagers thinking unrealistically about getting big and using juice when they don't get the results they expect. So Teela too would be an even WORSE idea to inspire young women because it is biologically impossible for women to get that big without TRT. Even men with low T cannot get that big and women naturally produce lower levels.

Look around you at all the “realistic” body shapes moving around and then ask yourself if you want to see THAT on any screen, be it large or small?
The reason we had “matinee idols” back in the day was because we WANTED to look at beautiful and handsome people who are eye candy rather than eye sores!
That’s built into our DNA like finding puppies cute.
So why do we keep pretending to prefer seeing the “normal” people around us pushed onto our screens when we are all dreaming of looking like a star or an athlete rather than our fugly selves?
Girls still want a handsome prince and guys still want a beautiful princess and no one wants the fat Frog.
That’s our reality; deal with it people! 😜

It is, sad but true, that eye candy is what people enjoy to see on their screens to self eject themselves on a more successful looking characters. However it’s more healthy for some main characters to be normal to sometimes better improve the narrative to the story that the authors trying to tell. For example, I’m training to be an author myself and in the stories I write, while I do have main characters that are “eye candy” I also have main characters who just look normal, and in no way are any of my characters perfect. That way I can tell a story that has more impact and room for character growth for best or for worst...
That being said, in no way am I defending Kevin Farts show, this writer over glorified this “normal” character despite her really having no reason to be glorified other then to pander a demographic to the point that she became a sad Deus Ex Machena Bullshit character... it’s fucking sad that story telling has turned into way that authors now have to pander to political views instead of being creative and writing whatever the hell they want to write in order to tell a good story. I miss the good old days where classics art pieces like lord of the rings, Narnia, Star Wars (the classics, not that Disney filth with the exception to the Mandalorian) and Harry Potter where made to tell an amazing story about a different world. But now instead we have shit like this garbage of a show...
Well at least I have the owl house and amphibia to look forward to watching. Plus about to start watching my first Anime called full metal alchemist Brotherhood, I heard that show was also really good...

      Here's the thing....
As an adult I am able to recognize how shit the whole show was. Not more shit than any other cartoon at the time, but shit none the less.

The thing people seem to be overlooking isn't that it had to be targeted to a 40-60 year old demographic: it had to be targeted to the same demographic it was when it originally aired. The people that loved it when they were kids would have watched it regardless. That Field of Dreams "If you build it they will come" thing.
That's a demographic that didn't even have to be considered. As long as the show had been true to it's roots, give the same message and was modernized (properly!) it would have essentially pulled in:
      40-60 year old nostalgia/fans
people from 25-40 with kids who were watching it
18-25 year olds to see what all the fuss was about
      and obviously kids.
The number of people that have come forward to tell the original He-Man creators/talent how much the show meant to them when they were kids and/or how much it kept them out of a dark place is mind boggling.
The closest comparison would be if in 2040 they redid Harry Potter to include the newest woke shit completely disrespecting everything the story did to make the people of the original generation angry. It's ridiculous how easy this should have been, and even more so how badly the fucked it up.

Their definition of 'strong' seems (ironically enough) to be entirely straight-masculine: built like a truck and attracted to women. Which implies that they don't think a woman is capable of being strong unless she's a man. (which we've seen over and over lately). Which, hilariously ironically, means they are exactly what the woke claim they *aren't*: sexist. Except they're not sexist against men, but against women.

Here's the difficulty with drawing women, something 85% of artists can really struggle with: You need to be subtle. In all of her features. The more you chisel things out, the more it becomes a man. And every extra line that should not be there also adds 10 years to her face. This is simply fact!
So yeah, they tried to give her a realistic body. But not hard enough. Yeah sure, realistic female body. If you were dating a gym-goer that benches 200lbs each day maybe.

I am the He-Man generation. I had the action figures, and I remember two things about him that 'woke' simply do not understand. Firstly Adam's dress usually consisted of pinks and lilacs, incredibly progressive at the time, showing his ultimate comfort in his sexuality, and also that despite his size and strength, the character would always look for non-violent ends to conflict, with violence being the last resort. An ode to intelligence. To me (born in the early 1970's) 'woke' is nothing more than a conscious/subconscious revenge from those who were bullied at school, against everyone and anyone who they deem to be the kind of person that bullied them, now they are in a position of power in many industries. However, they have chosen an atomic sized weapon to use, indiscriminate for the most part, because they don't separate out men that were already respectful of their female counterparts, of other races and religions, simply because they were brought up by their parents correctly. By destroying franchise after franchise, which taught my generation many good and valuable lessons through entertainment, they have cluster bombed those who were most valuable to their cause, back when they were the bullied. It was men like me who would not tolerate such behaviour against weaker kids, or that displayed inherent differences for whatever reason, even back then. Yet I have had my entire childhood of icons destroyed one by one from Doctor Who, through Star Trek and Star Wars, comic book heroes and now He-Man. My prize for the boy I was, is to be treated like a piece of shit in my later years. I say to the woke, a most sarcastic thank you. I did not deserve the society you claim to be right and just, to the point of clearly saying you are wrong about it all. Very, very wrong and you will face those demons one day, just like those bullies you needed to eviscerate so badly, had already had to deal with. Two wrongs will never make a right.

I mean, the answers Kevin Smith and company gave were formulaic. We all saw it coming. They strawman the fuck out of any legitimate criticism and go about living in that fantasy bubble of reality they call Hollywood. I am an AVID movie watcher, and I have noticed the decline in new movies that I'm willing to pay for. I know there's a social justice theme in them, I'll go watch some. But the SJW message is often so agregious and against the original plot of the franchise, that it ruins the movie. Why is Sarah Conner acting like she's "just a vagina?" The woman who taught the savior of the resistance everything, and would have been the savior if she didn't give her life to save him? How does that woman feel like "just a vagina?" I've never been so put-off by a retconning. Fuck this new-age Hollywood. I don't care if it's men or women starring in a movie. The moment you take a beloved character and make them something they aren't, you're a piece of shit to me. It really does have that playground bully feel to me. I'm just going to take the things you like and destroy them; because I'm mad that you have things you like. Again, Hollywood needs to find the biggest bag of dicks on the market, and then eat the whole bag without a drink. Dry dicks. Choke on em.

A true fan understands the complications of the character they love and in some cases their ferocity. All of that commands respect. So what if they are the center of somebody’s fantasies? After all Women and men alike do the same thing with real world Celebrities. The difference is we know that are fantasies are just that, they will never come true.
On a secondary note, where are all the fat female heroes? Why does Teela Hit the gym after she runs out of the kingdom? Why does it she overeat? Become Out of shape? Become Lethargic and sluggish? If Thor can do it then I failed to see why she can’t. Ever notice that?
When all the guys abandon their duty and run off to the middle of nowhere They become old, fat slobs. But when a woman does it She comes back built like a bodybuilder. It’s almost as it it is appealing to a certain fantasy.

I grew up in the 80's. Appreciate what you have. I wished we had the internet and access to computers like people now a days. If you wanted to learn something, you literally had to pay for that knowledge, outside a public library or having a family member that new what you wanted to know. Even then, there's always a price. Which makes me wonder with such free access to knowledge now a days, how come there are so many stupid people out there. You would think that everyone would be walking dictionaries. But know, these kids do shit like eat tide pods and similar activities. Maybe the human race is doomed. There's no way to fight the stupid.

Agreed. Even the character designs are pretty good imo. I have no clue how they're comparing Teela to Korra since Korra ACTUALLY looks feminine and pretty. Yes she does have a muscular build since she fights and trains all the time but she doesn't look like she-hulk at all or heck Teela for that matter. Any girl who takes her workouts seriously can achieve the sort of athletic build that Korra has. Can't say the same for Teela though lol.

I watched the show to see if it was as awful as people swear, and I didn’t think so. It’s definitely got some story issues (partly coming from Nick refusing to give the team multiple seasons to start with like they did for the original show), but it wasn’t awful

So, I just looked up Teela on google because I’m not too well versed in Hee Man.
She looks nothing like any previous design I’ve seen of Teela, and looking at how she looks in the show, he body type isn’t as realistic as Kevin Smith makes it out to be. Woman have curves, it could be a slight curve, or maybe something more depending on what shape they are in. Teela in this show, has no curve. And while they aren’t as defined as Hee-Man, her arms looks much more masculine than feminine, and her body armor takes away any sign of her having a chest, im not saying she needs huge tits for her to look like a girl, but the armor is just so flat looking it looks like so took a piece from a male armor set and put it on, which is strange cause when she’s wearing her iconic design, they are very visible and the curve is definitely there, like the average woman. So it’s kinda silly to me how they are saying she’s more realistic now despite the fact when she’s wearing anything but her iconic look, that’s not the case, really makes you wonder why that’s the case. But even then, we have to realize this a show, an animated one at that, something like her body shouldn’t even be a major concern right? Well the producers and Kevin Smith seem to differ. Really a bummer that we got people like this in the industry.
