    I owned one, in the same colors, for one Summer. It was a Sport, and had a 390 cu in. with a single Holley carb. Someone had put the 4 speed in it (cool), and my mechanic got into an accident while test driving a new clutch install. A VW Bug ran a stop sign and took it out in the front, and side. I was so pissed! I sold it to a collector/restorer, who owned several others. Sad, story, but it was scary fast, and I had an epic experience with it.

    Love your videos Campster, but the term "Muscle Car" has been so abused these past 10-20 years. And I'm sure you know what I'm talkin about. The term came out in the 80s, cause B4 then, no-one ever used it. But to the un-informed, "Muscle Car" was given to an intermediate (A body) car with a big eng, period. A Mustang, or Corvette, Camaro, or Firebird, also doesn't fit. Surely this full size is "not" an intermediate, and would not fit the category either, altho it does possess tons of muscle. Was the GTO "the" 1st muscle car? Maybe you could say the earlier valiants with a 413 were the 1st, but there's no doubt the GTO got everyone's attention. Just had-ta thro that out there. But your videos are still the bomb. Thanks. :)
    P.S. Ooops, I didn't listen to your entire video, B4 posting. Guess it's called.."open mouth, insert foot." Sorry. :(

    • @musclecarcampy9922
      @musclecarcampy9922  ปีที่แล้ว

      I read an article from 1965 or so that called these vehicles muscle cars, so the idea that the term came out in the ‘80s is not quite true, though super cars was what most people called them back in the day. Now, anything with a V8 from 1955 to 1981 is a muscle car (even if it had a 2-bbl carb!

      @@musclecarcampy9922 Maybe I lead a sheltered life Campy, but I was weaned on these cars in the Boston area, when the gas crunch of 73, ins, and government was putting the squash to us. Kinda rode the last wave of these cars, when they were still considered, "daily transportation". My mags of choice were 1st off Cars, Popular Hot Rodding, Car Review, Super Stock, Car Craft, and Hot Rod. I've also purchased mags from the 60s such as Car Life, and Motor Trend, (when they had performance Detroit cars), and still have these mags from the 60s, 70s, and beyond. And to my recollection, the term "Muscle car" wasn't ever mentioned in any abundance, if at all.
      Not trying to take anything away from your comments in the video, it's just I hear the term thrown around so much, pretty soon a Super-poo WRX, or Grand Nationals will be coined with the term "Muscle Car", and that's just flat out wrong. (IMHO)

    According to my sensibilities, you've got Musclecars proper, which follow the formula of a Big Block, or near 400 cube engine, factory installed in a less than full size car.
    But then you've got the Full Size Muscle, which predated Musclecars by maybe nine years. Full Size Muscle might be the first Musclecars, but I'd want to see an example of someone referring to them as Musclecars, back in the early '60s. I am not sure when that term was coined. After 1970 and the final Galaxie/XL Sports Roof, full size cars never again had any kind of racy details like they had in the '60s. Those were relegated to Musclecars, which increasingly needed them to compensate for their decreasing levels of power/performance.
    Are those MOPAR center caps on them sweet chrome Magnum 500? I'd go for the red cloisonné centers which I believe they used on early-mid '70s Torinos. My crappy sound system makes the car sound like a lawn mower engine! I guess I'm hearing those solid lifters and directly coupled radiator fan, in concert with quiet-ish mufflers.
    My Dad's younger brother got drafted had to sell a new '68 Camaro SS396 4 speed. It was white with the black hockey stick-ish stripes, and loaded, with an Alarm, factory 8 track, AC, Rally Wheels, etc. He ended up getting sent to Germany, and my Grandparents eventually sold it - he'd brought it from California back home to West Virginia, where there's less of a market for a car like that. My Dad took me for a spin in it, but I was too young to remember it. He doesn't remember if it was an L78. I'm guessing L34. They drafted my Dad out of the same house, seventeen years earlier.
