Thanks for the update Skyler, interesting to see what goofy stuff Skylum is doing even though I no longer use Neo. Now that they are putting their efforts into costly gimmicks rather than working on existing tools like their sketchy masking Neo is no longer an app for serious photographers.
Wow! I sure Luminar is working on getting this issue cleared up. I haven't used the sharpening tool yet but now I'll be watching my edits very closely. Thank you.
Thank you Skyler! You have beautiful children and wonderful photos of them. This seems to be a constant problem with Skylum - nothing is ever fully developed before release. And ... Happy New Year to you and your family.
Holy cow!! I never got sharpen AI from them, now I see why. That is hilarious, when parts of the photo will be replaced with other images. Rarely I need to sharpen anyways, but if I still use Topaz Photo AI. And yes your kids are really beautiful
Wow, that's quite a change to the face! Thanks for showing this, Skyler. How does it do without the face enhancer checked? Skylum definitely needs to fix this. I don't have SuperSharp AI because I refuse to do a subscription, and pay the same as Lightroom and Photoshop. Your daughters are adorable, by the way.
WOW! thanks for the info and the demo. I am new using NEO and I haven't sharpened any portraits photos yet. I use Luminar 4 and decided to get Neo for the AI enhancements, some I like and some I don't like. I use Topaz more but having extra options gives me different views to enhance my photos. I love learning from your videos, thank you for sharing!!!
Beautiful children. The AI changes did nothing to enhance their beauty. Love your in depth analysis of the product features, and pointing out both the good and bad things. To me, the old portrait enhancements in Luminar 4 allowed the user to apply certain features without the AI making wrong guesses. The only Luminar extensions that I find useful are HDR merge, focus stacking and background removal. Magic light is a not something that I need a lot. DXO Pure raw and Topaz products are much better denoise and sharpening tools, and Topaz AI provides all of those tools in one stop and does a better job with some of the facial recoveries.
While unwanted face manipulation should not be part of the sharpening and up scaling tools, it can be useful in recovering blurred and faded historical images that cannot be easily saved by other means. My problem is the inordinate time Neo requires to complete each process. I don’t want to spend 20 minutes watching spiderwebs drift across my screen. Photoshop Neural filters do a faster and usually better job than Neo’s method.
I think this is a good example of problems with AI. In this example it's not a mathematical sharpening algorithm being appled, but instead the AI's interpretation of sharpening. If you look at the latest AI advancements, you can see this issue everywhere. AI does not return factual information, it returns what it thinks you require. Many times its provides the correct information, but if it does not know the answer it makes stuff up that appears factual. In an image of a face, where we know the original, it's obvious that it's not real. Problem for society is we are really bad at judging what is or is not real.
I was a neo user in the beginning but they are to busy pushing the addons and subscription services.. they haven't added any real value to the program itself and I am disappointed and still love all the new things photoshop keeps adding making it the best for me
Gr8 catch Skyler! Personally I think Neo is getting too bloated not being able to handle API's correctly within the app. I'm sure Skylum will squish the bug. One of the many reasons why I don't like having all my eggs in one basket. For sharpness, enhancements and denoise, I prefer using the Topaz AI suite apps. They work gr8!
Hi Skyler. I'm curious about Luminar. I've used Photoshop professionally in visual effects for over 20 years. I'm not familiar with Luminar at all, I assume it's similar to Photoshop or lightroom and since is seems like you use both Photoshop and Luminar I'm curious which you prefer and how do you decide which program you're going to use when working on a photo or photos. I use some pretty high end software for doing VFX for feature films so not sure if Lumianr would work in my pipeline, but looking forward to hearing what you think. Thanks!
I think some other commentator has in my opinion also illustrated this quirk. It really is strange. I wonder if it has been reported Skylum because a batch file might make it hard to use goback perhaps.
Hi Joe! Skylum knows about the problem and doesn’t think is a problem. I got an email from them saying that the tool is designed for restoring old photos where parts of image is missing and so is filling in the parts with new images
@@skylerewingphotography Uh-huh, and what do you feel about Skylum's view, Skyler, please? For anyone who recalls the person worked on, especially the changes between the photos before and after, may find it surprising in my opinion. Of course the effect can simply not be used.
This is why I don't buy any product without testing it before. That said, we can use the brush to not "enhance" some parts of the photo. Including the eyes, the mouth, and everything else that you don't want to be "improved" by the AI. Also, I believe they are going to improve their AI over time. That's the problem that we have with developers, we pay for their piece of software before it's fully finished or at least works very well.
This is an issue with the recently added face enhance that they added to a couple of extensions with the last update. It looks like they are using AI to replace features instead of enhancing!!! Ridiculous
It’s just a setting people need to be aware of. Most beginners photographers click buttons without understanding what it does. Is good to know and be aware as one small click in a setting like this will ruin your photo and you might not even know why it happened. Notice I didn’t say this program will ruin your photo. I said this”setting “ :)
I think you have miss used the tool here. First exactly what were you attempting to correct/change in these photos? Why is Super Sharp AI the right tool for you to expect to get the result you originally wanted? Also, you have not destroyed your images! You can reset to original and start/try another approach/tool; perhaps masking in just those areas you want to effect. To me, it’s unreasonable for you to think that because the tool is AI that it with know what you want to achieve and produce that exactly as your minds-eye has in visioned it.
I m from India , I have seen some of your videos,i m also new into TH-cam ,but you should use good music, quick transitions, little transitions in speaking slow & fast, you will get more views because right now you are doing too much professional teaching style like high school teacher ..I wish it will help you
@@skylerewingphotography the tips offered are worth ignoring. Your style is excellent as usual. My other comment is to Skylum -- for this the extension is worth spending money? Disappointed that NEO was not updated with all of the extensions but certainly glad no extra $ were spent on this particular one.
