You got me pike fishing after a lifetime of salmon/seatrout fishing. I spent a few quid(more than I would like to admit) and headed along the road to a well known loch with pike in it. 15 minutes casting an 8 inch rappala and I thought I had hooked the bottom. The bottom started taking drag so I tightened up and a minute later I had a very energetic pike on the grass. It was a big fish,a very big fish over 3 feet and heavy. I didn't weigh it as I never weigh my fish and it was back in under 2 minutes and swam away pissed off but strong. My question is ............what now?. I maybe take up tuna fishing 👍♥️🏴
Great shots mate. How do you film and fish at the same time? How long do you usually have to stand in the water with the camera for before you get a take?
Great video if i can ask what size and type of hooks do you use, i am only asking because at the age of 69 i am taking up fishing just waiting for my licence to come.
Nice to see you using single hooks as I am not a fan of trebles at all. I use the Eagle Mauro Catfish hooks for livebaiting with Drennan red bait flags. Much kinder on the Pike and bigger baits will get you bigger fish. A 39lb Pike was caught at a place called Knipton and the guy used a 3lb jack as livebait. When the females start getting to 20+lb there isn't much they won't tackle. Good filming Chris well done. Tony
Tony Ashton I've switched to single trebles, or a single circle hook or partridge vb doubles recently! I'm not a fan of two trebles as it can be a nightmare with deep hooking! Must admit I do lose more fish on the singles or partridge doubles, tend to always hook up with the single treble tho, and usually always right in the scissors! 😁
DK_99 Knight I am using a John Wilson six shooter 6 foot rod, shimano baitrunner.50lb braid and Drennan 7 strand 28lb wire and size 1 or 2 Eagle Mauro. I lip hook and drennan bait flag my livebait.Once the floats slid away I give just a bit of time and allow the Pike to run and put the bend in the rod then strike high and right or opposite the Pike, s direction. Since changing to braid and singles I am generally in the scissors or side of mouth. Hope this helps.
Tony Ashton yes that helps, cheers mate! I only deadbait and was using Sardines hard on the bottom, I had 6 cracking takes on the singles but they were not connecting and taking the bait! I later caught a 8lb on the float rod(single treble) and the pike coughed up one of my sardines as I bought it in, ha ha ha! I'm going to persist with the singles tho and hope next time they connect, Cheers
Tony Ashton must admit I've been doing well on Smelt, trout and eel sections, but got the sardines as it was a spur of the moment session and I was close to morrisons! 😁
Nice footage man....but are you actually allowed livebaiting in the uk? Some people seem to doing it while others saying its banned....are there actual rules for it,or is it still a bit of a greyzone?
So you can to fishing in UK with live bait? Because I don't understand now one people's saying you can anothers that you are not aloud... I am from Norhampton and would like to fishing in River Nene or a Grand union canal so I would be aloud or not to that?
I find it disgusting and extremely disrespectful to fish with live bait, it is not for nothing that it is prohibited in large parts of the world! Very weak!
Rapsy Many things are legal, doesn’t necessarily make it moral and something which people shouldn’t voice their opinion on, if they have the personal integrity to stand by their principles.
Thanks man. They have to make that split second decision with a moving bait. Hence why in lures fishing sometimes its better to speed the bait up to force them to make the quick decision before the potential meal gets away
The Ginger Fisherman - Would this also mean that fishing a lively struggling baitfish (vs the same baitfish dead) is potentially more effective because the pike doesn't have the time to suss out a dead fish rig?
From my experience Pike take live bait side first, thats why i hook the live bait in their backs under their fin, this way 15-20 seconds after the pike has taken the bait its ready to be struck. the hook is already in its mouth, just need that bit of time to really make sure it grabs it by back not tail or head. I find that hooking live bait in their back is more secure in terms of actually hooking a pike vs empty strike, but with a downside the bait dies faster than it would if i were to hook by mouth
Especially lure fishing. The fish starts thrashing and trebles are flying about in a net next to your hand. I always think I can just see the laughs as I walking in A and E attached to a fish attached to a net.
Das sind halt Vollidioten! Die haben noch nichts von den sehr guten Gummifischen oder guten Wobblern für Hecht und Zander gehört die zurückgebliebenen Engländer. Nur Tierquäler!
Nice video.Strange thing is the pike reaction when out of water.Personaly i only got pike in Danube Delta. But man...you will never ever manage to hold fish like that when you get it out.And hook release with bare hand...No way.Major injure risk as fish fights violently. So only tools help to keep mouth open and pliers are used. One moment you keep it 10 cm from your face. That is dangerous with them here.
Its as though the pike are grabbing it outta boredom or instinct over hunger. Pike: *chomp "now im gonna go show Rodney this nice chub i found in my swim. He'll be jeleous
If only he understood how much of a dieing species the roach is. First the kormorant, then the otter and now you. And people wonder why shops are now 90% carp oriented. Because the coarse species, roach dace, Rudd, etc etc, are not there anymore. I'm glad I fished for these 20 years ago.
Should just give up the livebaiting. Our glorious sport/hobby is under enough fire from animal rights groups as it is, no need to give them any more reasons to get tilted.
Love your stuff ginge, but this one left a bit of a bad taste. Think the chubb suffered a bit too much for the cause there. Injured fish are easy pickings for any predator not much to learn from it. Still love your stuff though
Great bit of filming mate! Just loved it! Can u please let me know what camera set up you use to film under water as I use a GoPro and can’t get great footage of takes
Pike are a weird fish could trow a bait in front of em might not go for it but something gets switched on in it's head and it attacks..kinda like a sleep mode
Pike take their pray head first most of the time. So if you place your hook closer to the head of the baitfish you'll have a greater chanes to hook one
I think it's a good estimate, I've been pike fishing all this winter, and been lucky enough to land loads of doubles. To me it's defo a low double. 11-12lbs is my estimate.
If you don't want to actually hook the pike try using not a hook but like a stick with a barb to poke the bait on, it will hold on decently and pike will have minimal chance of actually hooking themselves.
Honestly if you hook the bait fish in the mouth it has a good change to survive. I refresh the fish every hour or something this way the baitfish survives if it doesn’t get caught.

more down to location and timing than bait size, had 2lbers on whole bluey this year and a 24 on a 4 inch bream.
Absolutely cracking footage - as always, Chris ! Top man ! Thanks for sharing ! :)
Thanks :)
Wish I was that confident in grabbing the pike straight out the water like that, another great video
Love watching your content mate. Really good stuff everytime without fail. 👀

That was a brilliant video mate.so fascinating.
Great footage mate. To say you found that chub floating it still found some life when it saw that first pike lol.
Birds singing in the background, an awesome day fishing, gotta like it! Awesome, Thanks!
Where you from mate? Always lots of fish about. I'm from Hampshire, supposed to be good for fishing but pretty dead these days.
Great shots mate. How do you film and fish at the same time? How long do you usually have to stand in the water with the camera for before you get a take?
As long as it takes.... probably too long this time of year XD
The Ginger Fisherman lol, same feel when you have a new 20£ bait and you can't catch shite 😂
What kind of rod are you using here?
And one question is how can he have 20 strikes at 5min and I need to wait 8 hours for 1 bite 🤕
Great video if i can ask what size and type of hooks do you use, i am only asking because at the age of 69 i am taking up fishing just waiting for my licence to come.
How did you get on with your new hobby then, Mike?

Crazy stuff man! respect. I like your videos
Nice footage man....but are you actually allowed livebaiting in the uk?
Some people seem to doing it while others saying its banned....are there actual rules for it,or is it still a bit of a greyzone?
England and Wales allow lives, Scotland doesnt.
Good videos mate.. you can learn a lot about pike behaviour
Thank you. I learn a lot myself making these videos
So you can to fishing in UK with live bait? Because I don't understand now one people's saying you can anothers that you are not aloud... I am from Norhampton and would like to fishing in River Nene or a Grand union canal so I would be aloud or not to that?
Live baiting just seems a bit of a contradiction of our great sport, kill a fish to catch a fish ! Does that still make it a sport?
u just contradicted yourself
@@paulmartin7805 Waste of a good Chub.
fishing never was a fucking sport!!!! its mostly a hobby and or a job and not more! fucking catch and release bitches!!!!!!!
Finally someone who's thinking.
it's fun....as Boris says.
excellent footage as always mate👍
Do you really use live chub to demonstrate how pike is feeding?? It is not just illegal, but moreover it is absolutely not ethical...
Daniel Kovacs please explain why it's illegal?
Thats animal abuse. Right. For what? On YT IT gives x Videos Like this...
Live baits & CR its very strange thing.
Daniel did you ever eat meat? did you know that animal was killed for your meal?
How? the pike eat them anyways
Fish dont have the capability to feel pain as they have very basic genetics which are programmed only to survive e.g. ear so this is not cruel at all
Cracking video, what size single hook is that?
Thanks mate. Not a 100% sure but i think i was a 1
Cool video,I like catching pickerals they look like baby pikes.cause theirs no near pike lakes in Mass.that place looks awesome n fun to catch.
What are you filming underwater with?
Hi mate, what underwater camera do you use?
Can you do a video on your setup please ?
Can you really use chub as a bait ? There is no size limit of atleast 30cm or so for chub?
Is that bait fish still alive?
Wow, that feels so wrong.
do the fish not attack if the bait is dead?
Yea they do
You can jig the bait, to give it a much more realistic effect, which gets more Pike strikes. They do pick up static baits of they are hungry.
Great vid as always, please keep 'm coming!
thank you
I find it disgusting and extremely disrespectful to fish with live bait, it is not for nothing that it is prohibited in large parts of the world! Very weak!
Gotta be honest, so do many anglers, it’s just not in keeping with the ‘right’ kind of angler.😔😔😔😢
If you dont like it, dont watch it. Its a legal legitimate way to catch pike in this country.
Rapsy Many things are legal, doesn’t necessarily make it moral and something which people shouldn’t voice their opinion on, if they have the personal integrity to stand by their principles.
Piss off ya snowflake
Are you using GoPro? If so, how are you attaching it? Scared to cast mind invade I lose it! Thanks
Wait... You kill a fish to catch another fish for fun? So, you kill fish for fun? Is it just me here who’s confused?
It’s safer for the predator fish
how do you follow the fisk and record the attack?
Brilliant underwater footage , 👍
Appears as though the pike prefer to take a dead bait head first, while if it's live and struggling it's grab it wherever.. awesome footage, subbed.
Thanks man. They have to make that split second decision with a moving bait. Hence why in lures fishing sometimes its better to speed the bait up to force them to make the quick decision before the potential meal gets away

Whenever i think ive a had a rough day il think of that poor little chub and its endless hell of a day
@the ginger fisherman what camera do you use to capture the underwater footage thanks
It amazes me that you never seem to get your hands lacerated or cop for flying hooks from a thrashing pike. I reguarly get cuts and grazes.
Especially lure fishing. The fish starts thrashing and trebles are flying about in a net next to your hand. I always think I can just see the laughs as I walking in A and E attached to a fish attached to a net.

Das ist einfach Tierquälerei
Ich hätte nicht gedacht dass das in einem zivilisierten Land noch erlaubt ist
Vin Dex I’m impressed you understand them I don’t
Mimimimimi und dann esst ihr fische die mit schleppnetzen gefangen werden und auf booten ersticken...
why use an excessivly big livebait for one pike? not good imo.

It's called low pressure
Yesterday I caught a 13 inch pike on a 7 inch roach. That little guy must have been hungry..
Wow! 5:03
Could it get any faster XD
yes the bigger the bait the bigger the pike .the bigger ones like to eath the dead fish and scoop the bait up from the bottom and gentle swim away .
Are you wearing waterproof trousers or just jump in jeans to the river?
those are hungry pike! That is a very healthy stream you're fishing.
