    In this video, I document our struggles at photographing the rise and fall of the January 2018 Super Blue Blood moon. Unfortunately, our attempts to capture the super moon rising and setting were thwarted by mother nature with low clouds on the horizon. However, Anne did manage to get some gorgeous images during its blood phase.
    In the video, I also give you a look around our current boondocking location on the Ajo Scenic Loop Drive. For more information and videos on the area check out these links to the Love Your RV! blog.

    We are eclipse-challenged here in Maryland, so, WOW, it was great to watch the process of you both working to get the shots. We were in Mercy Hospital in downtown Baltimore that morning, and I asked my husband to "quick, look out the window!" He humored me, but there was nothing to see. So this video in particular was a special gift to watch, the landscape and big skies another world to us. The photos are stunning, and we thank you both. And love that beagle :o)
    Godspeed.

    Nice shots. We got up early and went up to Lost Dutchman State Park to watch it. Unfortunately we didn't bring the tripod for our 35mm SLR and it couldn't get a decent shot because holding the camera still long enough to get an exposure, just was too difficult. It was beautiful anyway and a once in 150 year opportunity. Thanks for sharing.

      Yes, same here, we saw your little show at the plaza, great playing and a beautiful afternoon. We dumped and refilled the tanks today and came back for another week or so of camping here. Nice video and stills Ray! Too bad you weren't able to get the shots you wanted. We didn't get to see it very well here either because of cloud cover. The same thing happened with the solar eclipse, the clouds rolled in and it rained while the eclipse was going on. So we're pretty much 2 for 2 on missing the eclipses due to clouds!

    That’s cool Ray, yours is the only pictures I’ve seen of the blood moon.
    Anne did get some great shots! My favorite is the one with the organ pipe cactus.
    I have to ask about the tarantulas, no one mentions them.
    Love the cross on the hill, does it light up at night?
    Thanks for the work you and Anne put into filming and still shots. I really appreciate it.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would love to see a tarantula, so far I haven't. But have talked to others that have come across them. Joshua Tree NP is a good place to find them I hear. I don't think the cross lights up. Something does over that way but I think its a cell tower.
      Cheers! Ray

    The morning before this we got to see the full moon setting over downtown New Orleans as we were leaving our son’s house at 5:30 am. I wished we had been able to stop for pictures. The next morning I looked out of the window at our hotel outside of Atlanta at about 2:00 and saw the moon but when I looked again just before dawn it was behind some bright lights and I never saw the blood 🌙.

    I recently watched your 8 rv tips and concerning the Valterra water pressure regulator don't let it freeze when in stoerage. I had that happen recently and the gauge now reads 60 psi when not in use rendering it useless.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for for the tip, we avoid freezing temps like the plague, perk of being full-time nomads, gets cold, head south. :) One year though we did due to a medical thing with Anne need to stay in BC until Dec. 15th, we had a cold snap during that time and saw temps of -7C, but no harm was done, guess I was lucky, must have had the water out of it. Cheers, Ray

  • @wilkiepup1

    I would say it was a success. Your photos were lovely. Do you worry about your pup there? Scorpions? Rattlesnakes etc? Our three would not do well.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Seventh year snowbirding in the southwest and I have yet to encounter a rattlesnake and only seen 2 scorpions. We watch for them but they aren't a huge concern in the cooler months. I know a ton of RVers that come down here and haven't heard of anyone being bitten that I know.
      The worst threat is the cholla cactus needles. It would be painful for a dog to get a snout full of them. Angie stays on a leash anyway being a beagle so not much of a problem except for the occasional on in her paw. Cheers! Ray

    Little off topic but I was curious about your truck. Year, model, etc.. how does it perform pulling your rig? What kind of mpg do you see? I'm looking into getting a larger truck for 5th wheel towing and have been looking at well cared for older trucks as well. Any info much appreciated. Love the channel! Keep up the great work. Thanks for your time.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a 1994 F350 7.3L IDI with around 190 HP and 390 FT LB torque. So not very powerful compared to newer trucks. Our trailer fully loaded up is around 9500 lbs. The truck performs well but does dog out on steep hills, usually crawling up 8% grades at 35 MPH in 2nd gear, but it's pretty reliable and it only cost us $7200 7 years ago. We average 2000- 3000 a year in repairs and maintenance. Sees around 7-10 thousand towing miles each year. MPG is between 8 and 12 towing depending on hills and wind. 16 -18 unloaded. Here is a video I did on it a few years ago - th-cam.com/video/13O6Ff137hI/w-d-xo.html Cheers, Ray

    Seems like all these areas you visit are packed out with campers now. We are just starting out full time in SW and everywhere is crowded and hard to get into..Looks like Anne has A Sony A6000/63000/6500. I use A6000 with 10-18mm and 18-105mm.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      RVing is totally booming, with cheap fuel, tons of retiring boomers, a decent economy there are more people RVing than ever. The manufactures can't make them fast enough. When the economy tanks again things will slow down, its a cycle. When we started in 2011 it was a little after the 2008 market crash and many RV makers had gone belly up, fuel was over $4 a gallon and it was a lot less crowded. ;)
      Also, much of it has to do with the weather. Everyone is squeezed into a smaller geographical region of the southwest low in elevations this time of year. As the weather warms the higher elevations will open up and masses of snowbirds will be able to spread out more. Finally, I have a feeling many avoid FLA this year after seeing the hurricane damage.
      Anne has the Sony NEX6 and Sony A6000 Cheers, Ray

    Love the composition and colors of the 11:20 pic, and the clarity and color of the pic at 11:46, WOW. I think Anne was using a Cannon before. Is that a Sony she is using now?

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      She is using both now. She uses the Canon stuff mostly for her wildlife shots and has switched to Sony mirrorless equipment for her landscapes. Much lighter gear to pack around.

    • @knutblaise9437
      @knutblaise9437 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. The DSLR equipment can be quite heavy to tote around. I've watched some videos on adapters which allow Canon lenses to be mounted on Sony bodies. My understanding is that the adapters can be slower to focus but depending upon your application (flying versus static birds/mammals or even framing for landscapes) and the resolution of the camera bodies Canon glass on a Sony body can lead to some great pics. Here is a video where some Sony/Canon adapters are discussed. th-cam.com/video/b_dVkZasTCI/w-d-xo.html
