I really dont understand, why they don't build cars like this anymore. I mean I get it, EV is the future, but why do they all have to have so many assistants, touchscreens and entertainment electronics. just look at this car, its simple, yet elegant and functional, and overall, it works even after 18 years.
There are millions of people(including me),who prefer modern,futuristic interior design,which makes the driving experience more pleasurable.And the extra systems were a part of safe driving.And the voices,were an option in case you dont want to scroll around the satnav,and the new engines are not as loud as the old ones.

Many people and also companies dont want to buy these unreliable modern cars and dont need all the fancy entertainment and safety systems. By offering a car without all that stuff, a car manufacturer would have a unique selling point and (since there is no competition) pretty much a monopoly for this kind of car. There's a lot of money to be made. Just imagine an VW ID3 without the really bad software problems, the horrible controls and the underdevelopped assitant systems. It would be a great and durable car.

The steering wheel, gear box stick, even like a hole into the floor under the right foot. But still working like a swiss watch at the end. I guess this car is currently alive, a 3000000 km taxi somewhere in Africa.

this engine is a legend! I will always say that HDI from Peugeot is far more better than TDI of Volkswagen 105 hp 1.9 TDI engine code ALH. 406 is one of the greatest cars ever built by Peugeot! Despite am not of fan of Peugeot and Volkswagen, I will choose the 406 instead of B5.5! The germans are way behind when it comes to technology and design of cars in late 90”s and early 2000s
Mate, ALH is 90hp with the old school mechanical pump injection. 105hp was BXE I think. I'm not saying 2.0HDI is better or worse than 1.9TDI, they're definitely better than 1.9TDI PD, but the older 1.9TDIs on that Bosch mechanical pump (like ALH) I'm not sure, both are very reliable. I'm more a of 1.9JTD/JTDm guy myself though.

I have one a 1996 406 1.9 TDI. Reliable. Replaced the clutch with 285.000km. Still have some dings here and there, but has great mileage for the size. It is comfortable and takes me from A to B. That's what I need for a car.
I am driving 406 estate 2.0 Petrol from 1997. I like the simplicity of the car. It is far from perfect, but it does the job done and has good reliability.
i used to drive Citroen Xantia (406's sister but with hydraulic suspension) with 2.0 hdi 110. its more pleasant to drive because it has a better turbo (lower rev response) and more power :)

@@maciekapocaliptic the Speed sensor is on the front wheels as you can see in 2nd gear he spins from 50-80kmh but in third gear the speed doesn’t climb Untill like 3,500rpm where the clutch bites again
