    That was really cool. The movie is obscure enough, hard to believe anything is left at all, let alone someone knowing and going to film it. Great work!

    Some buffs of the film have been putting together a documentary called, "The Keep - A WW2 Fairy Tale" since 2015. They're in post production now FINALLY! So the film "should" be available in 2022. Anyhoos, some of the films crew actually went down to the bottom in 2001 and at that time, the bridge was still sturdy. Dunno how they made it down, rappelling possibly? Again, the documentary should be out in 2022.. Search the title for more info..

    Nice one. I managed to find the location on google earth around 10 years ago, the bridge still had planks on it and was much easier to see (although lower resolution back then) as there were far fewer trees. I found out about the film before it even WAS a film on Standby... Lights! Camera! Action! with Leonard Nimoy, he was previewing it while it was still in post production, and showed some scenes of it being shot, including one of Scott Glenn being confronted by Ian McKellen at the Inn. Tried to find the episode on the internwebz but no luck.

    My uncle who lives in the area and remembered the production took me here in the 90s...was telling me his mates all tried to get in on the act, as extras etc. Was telling him it had a big cult following and he was somewhat baffled. He just thought it was another naff b movie that went straight to video and was promptly forgotten about.

    Another Welsh slate quarry was used (as you say) for the other scenes, especially those in the 'void' under the Keep.
    This location was apparently used for 'Dragonslayer', and later for a number of Doctor Who episodes the one where they meet Doctor Yana, and the Futurekind, as well as the vast cave where the Doctor drops into a hole to meet the devil.
    There are a set of eight or ten pillars of slate that were built for The Keep, the concrete bases of which are visible in other productions such as an amatuer film of 'Judge Dredd' called I believe 'Judge Minty', where the quarry becomes 'The Cursed Earth'.

    • @LTJones
      @LTJones  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you. No road, they used a crane to lower everything down there for the filming. I had a good look using a drone and abseiling would be the only way down there, it's beyond dangerous ☠️

    I love this movie and have downloaded the entire 30th anniversary soundtrack from the film by Tangerine Dream, so I have an old VHS with bad Tracking. Probably from being shipped back and forth from Canada to the UK to Canada again. I didn't know our videos wouldn't work on the Britisk PAL system!! Anyways, I loved the Gothic look of of this film. All the men & one great Canadian lady Alberta, were so well cast. Thx for the video. A new film would be GREAT. IS THIS THE SAME QUARRY THAT slid into a school in Wales? Or is that closer to Sheffeild? Anyway the big concrete obelisk s shoved in the slag to prevent more slides are what the Who's Next LP Cover has the band pissing on it. So mu h history and trivia. I liked this video you did a good job...

    • @LTJones

      Don't get close to the edge, it's loose slate with a thin layer of dirt and grass on top. Definitely don't try and go down there, the cliffs are leathal. I couldn't fly to low because i was only seeing it via the camera. I might have been able to go lower had i flown it from the roadside.

    The Keep was such a cool film. Thank God it was released in the last golden age of films-the 1980s, and not today. I've heard that there is going to be a remake directed by Greg Nicotero. To be honest, I'm not holding out hope for the new film. To me, the best thing Greg Nicotero could do is complete Michael Mann's vision. I don't trust Hollywood at all now.
