My dad and a friend back in the late 60s had gtos. Like I said unless you addressed the valve trian they were dogs past 5000 Rpm..that's why royal Pontiac would upgraded the valve train. If you had a really tuned Pontiac moter they were formidable

Why don't you talk about the goat's performance?? Why not a 0-60 or a 1/4 mile?? The history lesson was nice, but it all falls flat when you don't talk about its performance.
I have a 65 GTO but mine is a 4 speed. I also have a 06 GTO and performance wise, between the two, you might consider the 65 a "granny". That said, I bought my 65 in 1980 and at that time it would blow the doors off any "police interceptor" ....I refuse to tell how I know this for fact and experience.
slam doors much lol. seriously though the worst thing to do is let one sit, so sitting in the barn was never good even with the low miles. If your not use to driving old cars those breaks are a hand full lol.
Door doesn't close right; you have to slam it. I know the worst thing to do is let it sit. It was dragged out of the barn 20 years before we bought it and I drive it quite a bit.

Pontiacs were never the best performance engines.. unless you did something with the valve train they had severe valve float at 5000 rpm
