    In South India there are plenty of senior citizen's resorts and homes. It started first at Coimbatore, TN. It's spreading all over. Demand is there

    The difference in parents n children looking after each other point is right . But we Indians are emotional extremes , seriously we need to speak more about this. Personally the people who are in 50s or 60s are sandwich gen ,the last gen who is still looking after their super senior citizens and 1st gen who listens to children

    I agree with everything you've said and I've been getting some of these thoughts now a days ever since I've reached my mid-30s. I have an idea that for every old age home, an orphanage should be present in same campus or adjacent campus so that the old ones and the young ones interact on a daily basis and revitalize each other.

    I have been thinking over the subject for a long time. Being childless couple, me and my wife wish to settle in Senior Living society few years hence. Senior living is a fairly new concept in India. There quie a number of such societies in various places. My take on the subject is as per following:
    1. Seniors require company of like minded people rather than Shanti.
    2. Senior living could be in big cities or Tier 2 cities where decent medical facilities are existing or will come up in due course.
    3. People in 60 to 75 years of age will have great time. Aspects of taking care of people who need advance medical attention and management of finances needs to be taken care of. One way out is that among the society younger and active people take care of others who need assistance. Purely in management of resources I.e. controlling of support staff, medical attention, finance etc. An Eco System needs to be developed in which younger member take care of elders. There could be nominated Care Taker who keeps track of a set of people.
    4. Legal Assistance in management of will, finances etc also needs to be taken care of.
    5. Government on its part should also formulate Senior living friendly policies and incentives.
    6. Senior Living is the future for most of us. I am expecting positive developments on this.

    • @janakyiyer6112
      @janakyiyer6112 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ur views are correct. I feel govt or a trust should be set up with reliable people to help senior citizens like accompanying them for shopping, movies doctor banks etc other daily chores of lives and bring them back safely. Seniors also need a person to be kept 24 hrs of the day. But when either of the spouse expires it is still more difficult to discuss matters. So a good lawyer a good doctor immediate hospital near by such facilities should be set up for senior citizens for a middle class families. Now so long they stay at a particular place and are familiar with people around and now they find themselves in a situation where they find difficult to cook move around fast for daily chores like paying bills etc. so such organisation should come up with help all under one roof, so senior citizen can call them and the office can attend to the queries, some may need immediate action. Even staying at senior citizen apartment it has its plus and minus. Some may like cosmopolitan atmosphere, even same community people may or may not follow all festivals, over the years one must hv formed their own lifestyle, but at senior citizen places we have to be time bounded as food is served at particular time but if in their home one goes as per their liking. Like this several aspects are there. One has to think clearly and take decision. For this also need help, if near and dear ones take advantage of situation Big question mark???

    Hello Sir, this is regarding Shanthi. I totally agree with you that living with mixed generations is a good idea because when a senior joins a younger group, the mind, and emotions will be that of a youngster. Senior citizen homes must be a mixed group of all ages, giving the bottom 4 or 5 floors to only seniors.

  • @dinkds26
    @dinkds26 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    Very deep and intricate subject Sir. I think exclusive senior citizen living is not feasible and has a lot of problems with existing ones without proper regulation and accountability of the operators. Solution might lie in integrating with existing housing colonies. Also working young gen might need a lot of good child day care facilities where these senior citizens can pitch in and live in a sort of mutual cooperation.

    Very timely video. As correctly summarized by you this product is more appealing to parents of NRI children who need to be in convenient as well as accessible place. I am nearing retirement from central government and have been for past 8 months visiting and researching the good senior citizen living complexs from major builders. However I have been unable to invest and go ahead due to the following major issues- 1. Their distance from the main city therby compromising our accessibility to specialized medical care. 2 Complete lack of access to CGHS facilities 3. Complete lack of access to outside life like nearby movie theaters/ malls etc. . 4. The long distances from Main city making it impossible for friends/ relatives to visit or you to plan a visit to them. All these above points have been well covered in your video. Excellent content and research done by you.!!

    I am observing 70 years plus people from 2002 onward in Janakpuri, Anand Niketan, Shantiniketan a over hundred farmhouses in Chhatarpur, Bijwasan & Rajokari areas of Delhi. Your analysis is good. Some aspects need more attention. Delhi's demography suggest that UP wala population in Delhi is over 60% and prefer Noida- Greater Noida - Ghaziabad over Haryana location for residence. 4th or 5th generation people who are NRI and whose parents are residing in posh or super posh colony of Delhi , they prefer Gurgaon over UP, similarly 20 % combined population of Delhi, whose origin is either Haryana or Rajsthan, they prefer Haryana. Remaining population has mixed thoughts. Recreation and Dispensary play a great role. Near by CGHS Dispensary attracts central government employees, nearby insurance empanelled hospital attracts creamy layer of Delhi population.
    Old age home clusters in periphery of Delhi and other mega metro will be required more to cater 74 years plus people in coming years. Currently it has scope in thousands but after 20 years it will be in lakhs. After demise of old people, how that property will go to inheritance and demography will be maintained in old age home.

    There are a lot of assisted living facilities around Coimbatore and they are in good demand in the south. As you said a lot of parents left behind by NRI children are opting for these. if you move there in your 60s, you can make friends and fall into their routine. They also have programs for fitness and in house temple etc. But as you said I don't know how people over 80 would feel living in such facilities.

      Swatiparekh, if you wish to go to a senior citizens home then don't wait till you become 70, you start looking for one immediately after 60. Because it really is a time taking & then thinking process. Me & husband visited a few near Mumbai & realised if we can live there or not! Most of these places allow you to stay there for a few days by paying there charges. So just go there, eat their food, see how things are working, how far it is from Mumbai, what about nearest medical facilities etc. If you find one, please inform us.

    You didnt make it clear then how are Dehradun and Pune cities dont fit the purpose... both cities have quite good medical infrastructure. Fact should also be considered that already so manyold people are happily living there and they are not fool. You did make good points but widebrushed too much of them. Also u have to differentiate between senior living and assisted living.

  • @Sunny12-23
    @Sunny12-23 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    One aspect that needs to be considered is that when the older generation passes away disposal of assisted living property becomes a problem. Most such communities have a minimum age requirement for residents hence choice of buyers is limited as compared to a regular apartment complex. This is mentioned in many studies of such properties abroad. In fact they recommend renting so that the hiers are not burdened with the problem of finding a suitable buyer. Also a couple may take a larger flat but when only 1 person is left a smaller place might be better. So some communities give the option of moving to a smaller place when necessary.
    Another aspect is that as you say far from the city can also cause problems- medical, lack of various facilities close by and you become totally dependent on the staff of the community. This loss of independence can also be an issue for some people.

    Excellent presentation on retirement homes.
    You have a comprehensive vision on this topic. I would like to add one aspect regarding buying the property.
    I really don’t understand the concept of buying a retirement home, instead it should be a rental one, so that the one who runs the show will have interest in serving the seniors living there. If one feels that the atmosphere/ service provided is not good, they should be able to leave with due notice.
    I’m 65 years of age and feel that ultimately such facilities are very much needed.

    Absolutely right. Old age brings lot of medical and psychological problems. Emotional insecurities are always there. Money is there but does not solve problems. Care by outside help is becoming dangerous because of crime rise. This is a maze difficult to solve.

    I agree and another thing in USA and other countries, senior citizen homes are rental and are expensive, as manpower is expensive there. In India the concept is new but more communities (existing) should have associations who can provide assistane to convert a flat into senior citizen friendly , like providing paid services to regularly get attendance of senior citizens, their wellbeing , in case of emergency thier kids are informed and sent them to hospital, one ambulance in each society, camera emergency buttons in each room, antiskid tiles , camera in drawing room etc. this will not isolate senior citizens. And someone suggested , senior citizen homes should be next to orphanage and gaushala where those who can , can help those in need , it will be mutual affection , in return will get positive energy.

    Sir, I highly appreciate ur opinion, I'm a senior citizen myself, yes we Indians r emotional n do require our children as we can't be detached fm them after a bond of so many yrs, Hence it's advisable for children to understand exactly that we only require their care n concern for us.

    All of it is common sense, but the funny thing is in today's world it has become so hard to hear someone talking in basic sense.
    Being out of india, i see good demand of assisted living in india for parents.

    Very nice thinking. I am bujurg of 69 +, I am thinking of sr citizen homes like in coimbatur. Now after hearing your views I have to re think for next 15 20 years. In some places rental option exists. I think that should become affordable. I feel still, shanti chahiye. I have seen most of your vidios on relationship conflicts. 🙏

    Excellent thoughts which are very practical. We do not want to disturb our children's career. They are facing so many issues in their life. I am also looking for a senior citizen apartment in Thane, Maharashtra.

    I like the way you explained the difference between parents taking care of children and vice versa. It isan eye-opener.
    Please tell me the way to make my daughter understand the importance of my wishes to live in assisted living senior home . They don't agree to that. They are talking good care of me but i don't want to be a burden on them.

    It’s a call of the day now and things are required to be settled down instead of being emotional and dependent on our children we must decide about our retirement life asap

    You are absolutely right. Very well discussed all pros n cons. It may be good where children actually become indifferent towards their parents. Though parents can never abandon their children, at some point they hv to take a decision to shift to a place where they will be looked after. Only that much may give them some mental peace. Also, this buying a senior living or taking huge deposits concept is 100% wrong. I feel just fleecing money.
    These should be available on rental basis with extra expenses on major medical conditions. Govt cn also think of providing group med insurance for such seniors living together at some nominal cost paid by residents. Concept is good but making money out of this noble cause is really bad. Max senior living costs 2-3Cr in NOIDA!! That is just d accommodation.

    well lots have changed i believe this is a very good product, as the parents are buying this to secure there futire living, funds issues can be resolved by reverse mortgage . when the person is not able to pay, then he can use his appartment for reverse mortgage. kids will still have opportunity to get the balance of the house after paying for the bank interest.

    Dear you have beautifully discussed seniors living in details. Seniors can't stand extremely cold or hot weather. You mentioned Dehradun it appears you not stayed there both seasons are extremes in Dehradun so I suggest only 3 cities have good weather around the year these are Bangalore, pune .Bangalore is very good city having all best medical facilities and best weather conditions. There is plenty of seniors living places. One should go there stay for some time if comfortable One should opet for this place. It's true we in India wants to live nearby to our kith and kins but they are so busy in taking care of their jobs and their own families and have no time to call you or wish good morning morning.
    When you are criticality ill It's hospitals hospitals like vedanta,fortis, sir Ganga ram hospital,max,to mention a few .Apollo hospital is also good.
    I feel One should be emotionally attached to ones own self ( body) .Financial security is a must. Remain pure vegetarian, no drinking and smoking, do meditation Remain busy in reading books of your choice and subject. I am 87 still by God's grace I am hale and hearty can take care of myself. My son is most caring loving and affectionate to me but his business is of hotel and restaurant in Goa where his presence is essential during day time at least and I don't expect that he should spend some time with me. So we at this age should not expect any thing from anyone at all.
    Most important is Financial security.
    My wife was paralyzed on the day i retired. As I had great time and love for her i looked after her for 16 years none else had time though I had 6 children. She passed away 2010.
    I'm suffering from prostate cancer under treatment with PGI chandigarh fully Under control. Angioplasty was done on 11th February 2022 in medical college Goa .Now no problem.
    I planned several times to shift to such seniors care homes ,my son is very practical when tempted by wonderful vedios of heavenly palace ludhiana i decided to live there because greatest problem is getting good domestic helps and I live alone in Himachal pradesh from March till October and in Goa with my son from November till Feb.
    My son took me to heavenly palace ludhiana and I was shocked to see the reality. Most dangerous thing was one khalistani was there abusing Hindus and administration helpless to take any action. I found it an totally commercial institute. Very congested, only medical and physiotherapy facilities available. Anyway I suggest first select place where can enjoy weather conditions not to be tempted or dependence on vedios.
    When you love yourself and keep Financial security you need not to worry what shall happen when I fell criticality ill .if any senior citizen interested to talk to me on this subject he can contact me at my mobile number 93572 49407
