I am an Indian from Kerala. Million bows to my brothers and sisters from the north of India who despite trauma of centuries still hold on to Dharma. It's you people who are still democratically safeguarding India from regressive ideologies. It's just because of you people that we in the South of India have started dreaming of the rise of the Golden age of our civilization and its key religion/darshana: Vedanta. Saashtaang namaskaaram!🙏

I am from South India. Born, bred here, never had a chance to understand this.
My daughter got a seat in Airforce school through general category, by sheer luck. I met the principal who was from Delhi. She asked me to introduce a good real estate agent who could help her get a house to buy.
I was visibly surprised when she told me that she wanted to settle here. She then explained to me that she liked the simple ways of South Indians and that language had never been a barrier for her here. I felt happy on hearing this.
Now I understand this completely. ❤

I am a Bengali who lived in Punjab for 27 years and now in South India.
The level of show off is extremely high in Punjab, Haryana, New Delhi..
I know many people who consider eating with hands as dehati. Also, I have seen unemployed people having iphones, cars, in debt. Most of all, I see many Punjabis in a lot of stress that if they can't go to Canada or increase their standard of living, their life will be difficult.
I don't say Bengal or South is free from it, show off in one way or other is everywhere.. but the show off in North will definitely exhaust u if u don't earn a lot or don't belong to rich class...

Well said Sir. I have observed this in my own life. I have stayed in Dehradun for my studies and am currently staying in Chennai for my Job . People in the North are more towards physical strength viz. People are into joining the Army more and show off culture buying iPhone and Cars even if it's on EMI whereas people in the South are more towards saving culture and they are spending a lot on Education and Savings like Gold(proof by data). They don't like to show off and I could see even a person earning so much is so humble . We should learn from both sides and have balance in our life.

That may be a stereotype that has been fed into the peoples' minds, I do not know from where. I am from North India and I have been noticing for a few years now that these Dravidian parties are trying to manufacture a North-South divide, especially in the literacy (saying Southern states are far more literate than Northern states). Barring a two states, there is not much of a difference in literacy rates between North and South. What use is literacy in a state like in Kerala where half of the population works in the Middle East or rest of India.

I live in Gujarat but I am a Malayali. And sadly in recent times, some Malayali's are getting influenced by the show-off culture as can be seen in weddings. And there are many who cannot afford it yet because their child's desires, they give in for their happiness. I think people need to learn this valuable lesson that show-off won't earn us anything, rather its just a waste of money that could be utilized for better purposes in life.

It's you people who are still democratically safeguarding India from regressive ideologies. As a South Indian, i think the reasons are much more deeply rooted into personality traits, culture, traditions and following what is already being done. Socialism, Communism, Dravidianism has brought about a difference as well.
Having said this, this divide is reducing now with more North Indians becoming smart with their spending and many more South Indians being foolish in their show off.

@@prasadbhadane608 About the state flag. Why is it surprising ? Indian states were not united for millenia, many parts and pieces were divided among feuding monarchies for millenia before finally uniting once we obtained freedom from the British.
For that constitution to work in the best interest of the nation, more power has to be provided to each state as opposed to a homogeneous rule from the center. Indian states differ much more from each other than the spanish states and german states you mentioned, yet they have a much higher say in their politics than the indian state.
Take a look at the Lok Sabha Election results of 2004 to 2019 of the states of South India and look what govt would have formed if they were able to have their own elected representatives working for them. Instead they are subjected to rule from a ignorant, homogeneous party, which forget nationalism, has no understanding of the diversity, people and cultures that amalgamate to call themselves India.
Unity comes with representation, unity comes with compassion, unity comes with being open minded to everyone that is different to you. For a party that uses disunity to win elections, cannot complain about the nation splintering into state identities separate from its ignorant nationalism.

South indians are really humble and brainy. Most of the computer jobs in USA are held by them. I always wondered why is that? Really liked your analysis. Did you had any interaction with Pakistanis. One of my wifes cousin is married to à south indian . I asked her what is the cultural différence between you two? Although human psychology tends to show off that which it does not have in reality. Some folks take show off to another level like skipping meals to buy that designer shirt etc. Such attitude makes life very stressful and ill effects of this stress spill over covertly in other areas of life.
