So simple but it captures so well what they were feeling for each other at the time. 3.Crawl Home (with Dessert Sessions). To me, black-hearted love takes the cake out of all her collaboration songs and it would probably make the top 10 out of her solo work aswell if it were included. It has a really great climax.

Here was someone who could channel Howlin' Wolf and Led Zeppelin yet was very very far from derivative blues rock. In so many aspects so very talented. I like how her band will change instruments with each other periodically on stage (at least during the Uh Huh Her tour) and still nail the songs. Had a chance to see her open for U2 but didn't as was already spoiled by club gig and lucky to see her do a few more.

I'm a massive PJ Harvey fan, and have been since "Rid of Me". I think there should at least be some mention here about the Demos albums that have been released for each of her albums as part of her reissue campaign. Some of those Demos actually work even better for me than the album versions. I would also highlight her Peel Sessions collection, which is excellent. I get why it isn't part of these lists, but it is a strong record. Straightforward readings of the songs, but I just love the sound of those Peel Session recordings. @@roxannewalsh Her appearance on SNL and the release of Horses shook my little teenage brain. I half dread and half anticipate what a Patti Smith video would be like. I saw her this past November; it was mostly spoken word, with a handful of songs. Her voice was remarkable and she was as funny and moving as you would hope.

My favourite PJ Harvey song is Goodnight, but the live version is the one that makes it justice (check the White Room performance on TH-cam). The only available recorded version is from the 4-Track Demos album and it doesn't come close to the live version. If I were to make a list, yours is the closest to what mine would look like compared to all the lists I've seen in this thread so far. Including the 3 in the video. Love most of your HM's and B-side choices too. There's only one song from your top ten that I would definitely leave out: 'Meet Ze Monsta'. I really love the idea of the song, but I can't listen to it all the way through anymore. Too repetitive to my ears. Same thoughts with respect to 'Working for the Man'.

The inherent problem w "political" albums is that you catch criticism if some don't agree w your politics or even your particular perspective on the issue (even if there is basic agreement on the politics).
I think it's an incredible song. Would be on my top ten. The live 1998 broadcast 'Sessions at West 54th' might be my favorite version, but the studio version brings something a little different so I wouldn't want to be without either one.

I got To Bring You My Love in '94 and was floored. Here was someone who could channel Howlin' Wolf and Led Zeppelin yet was very very far from derivative blues rock. In so many aspects so very talented. I like how her band will change instruments with each other periodically on stage (at least during the Uh Huh Her tour) and still nail the songs. Had a chance to see her open for U2 but didn't as was already spoiled by club gig and lucky to see her do a few more.

I'm a massive PJ Harvey fan, and have been since "Rid of Me". I think there should at least be some mention here about the Demos albums that have been released for each of her albums as part of her reissue campaign. Some of those Demos actually work even better for me than the album versions. I would also highlight her Peel Sessions collection, which is excellent. I get why it isn't part of these lists, but it is a strong record. Straightforward readings of the songs, but I just love the sound of those Peel Session recordings. Anyway, here is my top 10...at least as of today:

@@roxannewalsh Her appearance on SNL and the release of Horses shook my little teenage brain. I half dread and half anticipate what a Patti Smith video would be like. I saw her this past November; it was mostly spoken word, with a handful of songs. Her voice was remarkable and she was as funny and moving as you would hope.

It's hard to cherry pick from Dry, since it's such a perfect record. Yesterday's video has convinced me to go back and give Stories some more spins, and a quick listen makes me think I might raise it up. My favourite PJ Harvey song is Goodnight, but the live version is the one that makes it justice (check the White Room performance on TH-cam). The only available recorded version is from the 4-Track Demos album and it doesn't come close to the live version. Unfortunately this song was never properly recorded, so I guess it doesn't count.

The inherent problem w "political" albums is that you catch criticism if some don't agree w your politics or even your particular perspective on the issue (even if there is basic agreement on the politics).

I think it's an incredible song. Would be on my top ten. The live 1998 broadcast 'Sessions at West 54th' might be my favorite version, but the studio version brings something a little different so I wouldn't want to be without either one.
