There is a delicate balance between being "stoic" (never showing your feelings) or getting very emotional all the time over small things. You should never feel the need to apologize when you have an emotional reaction to a song like this. Those watching your channel know that you both are good human beings and that you love each other very much. The world needs more people like you two!!

The first verse is the Father's view, the 2nd verse is the Son's view. When this song first came out, I was a young girl and I related to the 2nd verse but now I am older and relate to the Father's view. This song is beautiful and timeless 💞

@@bridgetmccracken1381 I actually did learn from my parent's wisdom. They wanted me to follow my dream whatever it was. They were always there to support and advise me. Months after my brother moved out, my mother and I got a call from him. I took the call. He was in Alaska. He was cold, tired and lonely, and was thinking of coming home. "Don't tell mom," he urged. My mother sensed something was wrong and picked up the phone. "Are you okay," she asked. "I'm okay. Everything's good. I'm making money." My mother asked him if he'd like to come home. "No, I'll be just fine, don't worry."
After we hung up I played this song for her. She wept, and I sat quietly beside her.

I recently lost my Mother, she was 93. My biggest regret is that I didn't appreciate her life advice when I was young and only felt she was trying to 'run' my life. I fear I was obstinate at times and caused her heartache. I miss her so much now and would give anything to sit with her and talk over those times. I totally lost it, sobbing while I listening to this old song, which I've heard many times. The song also applies to Mothers and Daughters.

Cat Stevens now known as Yusuf Islam has stopped singing at a young age when he found the truth, Islam. He returned singing now at old age and he is still great.

This great song "Father & Son" by singer/songwriter and Folk Rock Legend Cat Stevens. Done (53) years ago is from his great album "Tea for the Tillerman (1971)." It was featured in the hit Movie "Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (2017)." A Father who does not want to let go of his son. Thinking he is not yet ready to face the trials and tribulations that comes with being independent and facing a cruel hard world. And a Son who wants to leave home to make his own way in the world regardless of the warnings from his Father. Genius and hauntingly beautiful. Priceless. I was 17 years old when this came out in 1971. Today I am a 70-year-old senior citizen watching this lovely couple reacting to the music of my youth. Brilliant!

I worked with Yusuf in the 1980s. This is definitely one of my favourite songs. Interesting story. We co-wrote a song called 'Children of Lebanon', on which I sang lead vocals and he sang backing vocals. It was due to be released on a charity album, with songs by various artists, as part of the campaign to get hostages in Lebanon released. However, a few days before the release date, the hostages were released and the album wasn't. I still have the master tape somewhere.

A great reaction to a great Cat Stevens song. He has a way of setting a mood and eliciting your emotions. One of his earlier works that he wrote became a hit for the group The Tremeloes in 1967 called "Here Comes My Baby". It's a change of pace from "Father & Son". The lyrics are about unrequited love but The Tremeloes perform the song in a very upbeat manner. Worth checking out a Cat Stevens song before he became famous as a performer in his own right (he was only 19 years old in 1967).

I've heard this song many times. It still gets me in the lower throat region and I never fail to shed a few tears. When a song hits, it hits. No shame.

Cat Stevens wrote and performed this song on his greatest, and one of THE greatest albums ever made, "Tea for the Tillerman." In 2 years of truly incredible artistic production, Stevens created Teaser and the Firecat, Tea..., and Mona Bon Jakon. Besides writing the majestic lyrics and singing these songs, Stevens played the majority of the instruments you hear. Just a bogglingly talented artist.

people misinterpret this song they think it's just the father singing but you can hear the change in his voice from father to son

This is a heartfelt song that brings out so many emotions, especially on sons. Don't apologize for your reactions to music, different songs bring out different emotions. Music should always touch us.

Every generation thinks we can save our children the heartaches of growing that we suffered. But, each generation reacts the same...need to find their own way. All we can do is watch and pray for them. And be there when we can for them.

my father recently passed away, so hearing this song has touched me deep inside. Just tell you never apologize for being empathetic beings, tears cleanse the soul, there is nothing shameful in showing that you are sensitive, on the contrary. This is your “home-space” and we are already fortunate that you let us into it. A big hug

I am in my late sixties now and I still remember my father and him telling me how things change in life.He never had a desire for anything greater than having a good life with my Mom and my Sister and me.He taught me everything he could and it has served me well.Time is insidious and dreams you have as a boy sometimes never happens as you growup.

His life was interesting. He did his own thing with his music. Then he left it completely to follow his religion and have a family. He did not miss music at all. Then he returned to the public eye and is back to his music. Our life is full of edits. That is necessary to grow. We must be forgiving and graceful to ourselves to be content.

This is a timeless song I think, because this conversation between a father and son, is always happening, the kid said, The same old story, you hear the father advise and hear the son, saying that he has to go, like I said is always happening, when you grew up you understand you fathers point of view, when you had your own kid, teen, young kids,
