In 1971 some (53) years ago. The great Folk Rocker and singer/songwriter Cat Stevens had a great album titled "Tea For The Tillerman." On that album "Wild World " was one of those songs. I remember when I was a 17-year-old junior in high school. Cat Stevens was one of our greatest singer/songwriters. Now that I am 70-year-old senior citizen. The song still brings back great memories of my high school youth and the joy I had listening to such memorable songs as this. Great reaction as always. How bless we Baby Boomers were to have grown up at a time with poets like Cat Stevens who put their poems to song were an everyday occurrence. Priceless! Florida USA.
This guy wrote some beautiful songs. He also did a beautiful cover of the Hymn "Morning Has Broken "with piano arranged and performed by the genius Rick Wakeman.
Couples who can bond together thru Cat Steven’s music are destined to be together. My wife and I did in our late teens. 50 years later, we are still together! Love your reactions! Peace - from British Columbia, Canada!
Cat Stevens always hit the spot... this song is certainly no exception. LOVE your thoughts and reactions. He really touches the soul... and another song that does that beautifully is "RUBY LOVE"... an amazing song that doesn't get enough love. Cheers!
When I was in the sixth form back in 1972, all the boys were into Led Zeppelin and all the girls loved Cat Stevens. Truth is everybody loved Cat Stevens. Everything he did was brilliant.
I'm 70 and Cat was such a great part of my youth, every time l hear him l feel young again. Thanks for the rejuvenation! I'm glad you love him so I can hear him more, keep them coming he has so many hits. Peace ✌️ ☮️ ❤Gary
And,I might add that these 2s reactions are so so genuine, heartwarming and insightful too. The best around. Dominica is a force of nature. André!!!! Your wife's absolutely beautiful.
And guys. If I may make a recommendation for you!!!! Emily's linge. The song -a moment in time . Beautiful evocative voice and a beautiful composition of a song. I'm pretty confident you'll both enjoy this
As others have said "Where Do The Children Play" is well worth a listen, it shows that Cat Stevens had environmental concerns for the human race long before these issues became topical or fashionable. His two albums Tea For The Tillerman and Teaser And The Firecat contain some of his best work. Loving your reactions guys, keep 'em coming.
I watched someone else read to this song! Wow~ he was very prophetic with this song! loved it back in the day but never really listened to the words. Great song! They should react to it.
I was around 19 when he was the biggest star in the music world in 1972/3. He crosses genres for me. You can be a rock fan or pop, but you'll find something fascinating and intriguing there.Really really liked his work at the time. Now,at 70,as my musical taste has matured, only now am I appreciating the true majesty of his songs . Profound, meaningful Ballad/folk classics abound I'm getting so much genuine joy listening to his stuff once again. This, along with Father and son. And remember the days in the old school yard are my particular favourites
He has offered so much with his magic & spirited songs. Cat Stevens was singing songs in my home while growing up & they always offered a sense of fun, comfort & energy that were all good. His lyrics & instruments are pretty perfect, with wisdom & grace. Thank you!
I would recommend also Jim Croce.. just like Cat, he has great songs. I personally like ‘bad, bad Leroy Brown’ but he has other great ones like ‘I have to say I love u’, ‘Operator’, ‘time in a bottle’ etc…
I mentioned earlier that music is my refuge, my sanctuary and my therapist. When I said therapist, this is the #1 album that comes to my mind. It helped me thru some very troubled times in my youth, and still does to this day. Every song goes straight to the heart and soul. Particular faves include "Miles From Nowhere", "Sad Lisa", "Father and Son", "On The Road To Find Out", and I could really just list every song!
My mother dedicated this song to me as a young 18 year old going out into the big, wild world. My smile is the one thing I've always liked, so this is a double hitter for me. 😎😎😎😎
Another great reaction. My favorite Cat Stevens song is "Father and Son". Not to be morbid, but I've thought about asking it to be played it at my funeral. So pensive & beautiful, like Cat himself.
Love this song i was a wild child,i ran away from home at 15 when this song came out , hitchhiking from New York State ,went to Mexico, & settled in Arizona seems like this song would play every time i got in someones car .🎵🎶💗Great reaction 💗
His song Father and Son is a masterpiece!!! He sing from two perspectives. The father's words in a lower octave to convey calm wisdom. The son's words in a higher octave to convey anxious yearning. The song is a disagreement between the two. In the latter half the father is in the foreground with the son in the background, and then the son comes to the foreground and father's lines are layered behind. It is a masterpiece!
Excellent reactions from both of you. Glad you're enjoying Cat Stevens output. On his 3 Breakout LPs, Tea For the Tillerman, Teaser and the Forecast + Catch Bull St Four, there's hardly a bad song anywhere. I'll recommend "Hard Headed Woman" & "Miles from Nowhere" from the first and 'Sitting" and "Can't Keep it In" from the last. I'm certainly enjoying first listens to music I grew up with, and still play.
Looking through the comments, I notice that no one has suggested 'I Love My Dog' which was Cat's first single, released in 1966. I always remember the DJs laughing over a song about a dog by a singer named Cat! I'm sure you will like it.
As A Child I Listened To "Tea For The Tillerman"..Owned By My Eldest Brother..He Never Knew..I Was 11 Yrs Old..Cat Stevens Taught Me About Life And Love Without Me Even Realising..All In One LP..Just Hearing His Voice?.. It's Tissue Time..
I love Cat Stevens. I have heard this song hundreds of times. This is the first time I have heard the lyrics in a spiteful light. It's almost like he is saying, "Get the hell out if you want. See if youyou can do better. Try and get by on your looks or smile alone." Maybe the times have changed, or maybe I am cynical in my old age... But listening and reading the lryics now makes me feel like he is degrading the object of his affection. Still love his music. "I will always see you as a child, girl." Hits me the wrong way. I will listen again in a bit and see if I change my view. This was always a feel-good song for me. Not so much today.
Yusuf/Cat Stevens once said in an interview that he was actually talking to himself. I hope that makes you feel better 😎, because to be honest, 'I'll always remember you as a child' sounded very condescending to me too.
@@DrStrangelove3891 Hmmm... Talkimg to himself about himself or talking to himself about her? We all have fleeting thoughts when having to go through these things. Hopefully we are mature enough to hang on to the positive thoughts in the end. I dont think I ever truly listened to the lyrics before. Even though I would happily sing along. I think the dichotomy between what I percieve as spiteful lyrics and the upbeat tempo of the music is bothering me here. I just enjoy the music.
Back in 71/72 he was riding the crest of a wave . His output was staggering.Moonshadow, Mathew and sons, father and son, morning has broken. In particular I recall school yard,a much underrated classic. He was the biggest pop/rock star around at the time. His songs have real impact and insights coming from such a young man. 24 maybe. It's crazy just how good he was.
I always loved his music because I heard it from my parents, but then VH1 did behind the music on him, Made me a even bigger fan. he's a great singer song writer. Yall keep up the great work much love from Lawton Fort Sill Oklahoma.
Such a pleasure to see the joy on your faces as you listen to one of my favourite artists ever You should definitely give his "Father and Son" a spin along with "How Can I Tell You"
The only thing I would ask of you is to check out how he has lived his life. One of the world's most inspiring men in all that he has done and taught us.
One of my favourite songs ever. I'm a little bit jealous of you, getting to hear his music for the first time. Still so many awesome songs still to hear, and I'm just loving your reactions so much. Thank you, you always make me smile. 😊✌❤
Loved watching your reaction to this song, Cat Stevens was/is an exceptionally talented guy and he's one of my all time favourites. This particular song has been covered by lot's of artists including Jimmy Cliff and Maxi Priest. Keep up the good wood work guys✌
@@freddiejupiter442 I knew someone would make that observation and you did not disappoint! I originally had the parenthetical after "1993" but I moved it to after "cover" to avoid that implication. Apparently, I failed.
Tea For The Tillerman is one of those albums that changed my life. You two should listen to the whole album just for your own lovely experience. The track after this is Sad Lisa ... a beautifully sad ballad.
One of my absolute favs from high school and college. Super catchy and great lyrics. He's got that folksy style with an endearing voice. Totally love it. Thanks for playing it again. Not sure who copied it; imitation is the sincerest form of flattery they say. 👍

You must react to his other great song "Foreigner Suite (1973)." It's considered a 19-minute Rock Opera. It's also the title of the album. In the early seventies Rock Operas were written and performed by various artist. In 1968 the Broadway Rock Opera "Hair." Was a big hit. And in 1979 it became a big movie hit.
