You only need the 5.1v 1N4733A Zener Diode if you can find it locally

Just a quick video showing how I repaired my 3rd brake light on my 1997 Lexus LX450 that had quit working. On mine, it was just the 5.1v Zener Diode that was bad. It was pretty easy to take it out and solder in a new diode. It's working great now, and seems brighter than before.

Hi there. I tried this but didn’t work for me. I jumped the leads with a 12v battery pack and a 9v battery, it didn’t light up. I get power on the harness. I even went as far as testing each LED by jumping the leads, no success. Was wondering if completely dead. Any info if the whole strip could be rebuilt with new LEDs? Thanks

LIFE-FREAKIN'-SAVER! Have this on my new '97FZJ80. This worked flawlessly! For now I just jumped to the other side of the diode so it works while I order my solder gun kit when I dive in to my HVAC lights and new buttons. 👍👍 my friend!

Dan, it is the simple things that help the most at times. Glad you did this vid. I was wondering how to get the light off (without breaking it). Now I know. I broke my water nozzle by closing the garage door with the truck sticking out a little. I thought there might be room under the light that would allow me to press the dent (crease) out from the bottom. After removing the light (thanks again) I now know there is not empty space there. So, I replaced the light and will now try and paint-less dent removal kit. I will post the process and results on the page I recently started. Keep posting the vids!
