I was there on the mountain in 1972 when Peter Brock had his 1st Bathurst win. Great memories.

I heard the larger cars were sliding of the track into walls and ditches, some rolling over on there roofs and many teams did a lot of break changes.

Yeah some how the triple stromberg carbs disappeared and triple webers appeared on the car. That was the dark ages of Series Production when holden ruled the rules. No XU1 ever was ever sold or produced with webers.

He only won because the Ford GT's all had to change their tyres due to wet weather. Moffat was called in but had no tyre wear & could have won! Sad it was the wrong call & could have been a hat trick

Most of my mates wrote these off in the wet in the 80s...

YOU TRIGGERED ? Still one of my favourite car models for driving (playing) in the wet. Mine were never XU-1, but keeping the wheels spinning with the old “3 on the tree” was the challenge🤘

They were very light in the arse. I sold mine in 91 and the young guy that purchased it ($4000 😥) wrapped it around a tree 6 weeks later 😩

GMH made 3 V8 XU1 Prototypes to race 1973 Bathurst 1000. All were converted back to 6 cylinders after the "Supercar Scare"

Very nice example. Wonder how much it went for?

I also had one very similar in the 90s, but mine had the herringbone interior. I wasn't aware the herringbone was an option? I thought it was standard

XU2 only got to prototype stage I think. I watched a vid with a guy that had built a replica and he was saying that the Australian guv cracked down on muscle cars back then so production never went ahead. He said that it was a dangerous car to drive until they put upgraded brakes on it. Here are, found the vid, get accurate info straight from him.

I had a 1973 In Cyan blue until some cretin stole it six months in.
The only way to go was the six cylinder. I test drove the GTR first but it would run out of mumbo at 5500rpm.
I remember vividly the XU1. 7000 rpm with ease , snap second with a chirp and repeat. Third gear 100mph and the HR 186 beside you was done. Snap 4th and walk away to 120mph..
It was the only car you could provoke a side ways power slide in Second gear in the wet or dry and precisely bring it back in line like a pro. My mate bought a SLR 5000.
And I could still pull a car length on him in first. From there he had longer legs.
      Ah memories.
