Woman Rescued After Writing ‘Call Police’ on Grubhub Order

- A desperate message for help was printed on a Grubhub delivery order by a woman who needed to be rescued from an awful situation. “Please call the police,” the note stated. The order was sent to Chipper Truck Cafe in Yonkers, New York. “We could see that it was someone that was in distress,” said owner Alice Bermejo. Police responded to the address listed for the order. They say a man was arrested for raping a 24-year-old woman. Inside Edition Digital’s Leigh Scheps has the story.

except in this situation he was going to call her after he got his order. so she wasnt in any real immediate danger, just theft. karens made it sound like something way worse so that someone would listen to her

Thank God they read the note. I can't even get the "no tomatoes" I requested because the places near me don't read the notes. I can't imagine being so scared and writing a note like this and praying against the odds that the person who gets it hears your pleas for help. Well done to the staff that helped save this poor girl from additional trauma or worse. And more importantly, to the young lady who was brave enough to ask for help even when there was a chance no one would. I hope she is recovering from this traumatic event and I pray that she is able to one day heal enough to put it behind her. 🥺

Even if you aren't sure if someone really needs help or if it is a joke or you misreading the situation, just call 911. The police would rather have to go to 50 false alarms than have to solve a murder or rape case. And you might never know if you saved someone from something awful but it's better to be safe than sorry.

I think most front-of-house staff do pay attention, sometimes the message gets muddled when communicating with the kitchen.

Very clever of the victim to write a note, and kudos to the employees for reading the note and taking it seriously. I hope the victim will be OK, and I hope the perpetrator gets what’s coming to him!

The intended message was likely: “Please call the police. He is going to kill me. When you deliver, come with the cops. Please don’t make it obvious.”
She either mistyped or made it less obvious that she was implying to call the police.

this story should have included that the restaurant was rewarded $5,000 for thier quick thinking and actually reading the note. They truly deserved a reward for saving this young lady!

As a dasher, this is actually very helpful. I pay attention to instructions carefully but now I’ll be more aware in case oddities like this happen. That is scary!

My local delivery never reads the note, yet they print out the order, including special instructions, and give that to you, as your receipt. I’m so glad that didn’t happen, here. It could have cost the woman her life!

I was talking with my friend the other day about exactly this. She once met a guy through a dating app, they went to have dinner and after saying goodbye he followed her home and tried to assault her. Beforehand she did what we always do, gave us the name of the restaurant, his name, shared her location live. And it still happened. I always take precautions when going out and it still happens. No matter what we do there’s always a new case and lately that reality has me really depressed :(

I'm glad there were adults working at that hour and not a bunch of teens.. usually teens have no idea what to do, or laugh about something like that and think it's a joke and start pulling out their phones to record or take pictures.. Those women saved a young womans life!!

Maybe this victim heard the story of the other victim that told dispatch "I'd like to order a pizza please" because she couldn't tell the dispatcher the real reason for the call since the subject was still in the same residence or room as her.
If she was using doordash they would never look at the special instructions and they would probably cancel the order.
That would have been a whole case then.
If the restaurant didn't find the note the driver also would have seen the note. Good job job.
I do Grubhub and I didn't even know the restaurants saw the note. I thought it was just for the driver(delivery instructions).
Really amazing, although there should really have an emergency app or Texting service, Where one can contact the police for help in emergency situations without making a phone call.

Unfortunately on DoorDash most restaurants will not let you type in special requests anymore. This needs to be brought back.
How many people have we not saved….that no one saw their help sign and those poor souls perished. Makes me think that we should slow down a bit in life. So we dont miss anything.
