  • We had a trip up to Glen Shiel to traverse the seven munro on the South Shiel Ridge. Unfortunately, a disappointing weather day but absolutely superb being on the dramatic tops again jammed in between Glen Affric & Loch Quoich hills.
    Glen Shiel certainly isn't short of stunning tops all within a relatively small area with no long walks getting to the hills.

    Great video, did this about 5 yrs ago: now days off 74 , so unlikely to go again, but I can relive it through this grand recording,
    Many many thanks!!!!

      Hi jondixon, Well done, you must have been going well to get along the ridge in your late sixties and great that our trip gave you a memory blast from this terrific high level walk. Many thanks for taking the time to view. Cheers, Charlie

      Alistair, The conditions just didn’t encourage stopping so we bashed on. The efforts to keep the legs conditioning during lockdown has paid off with both us going well. Cheers, Charlie

    Magic Charlie. Atmospheric. Did these 7 on one of my fundraisers in 2013. We parked at the Clunnie and cycled down hill to the start. A bit hairy when your kilt gets stuck in the brake calipers. Love Glen Shiel. Great stuff again mate. Cheers

      Scot, What a mental image of you getting your kilt stuck in the brakes just when the tour bus is passing :)... brilliant. Glen Shiel is certainly one of our favourite go to places. ATB Charlie.

    Great video and a superb long ridge walk. To be honest I would have been too scared to do it in this cloudy weather. The last part of your hike from Creag Nan Damh was very familiar to me as I have done and enjoyed this much shorter walk from the carpark to Creag Nan Damh and back on the same route. So good to see you hiking again Charlie. Hope to be able to hike in Scotland again when it‘s hopefully safe again. ATB from Germany 🇩🇪 Wolfgang

      Hi Wolfgang, The ridge isn't that bad and I'm sure you would manage it fine. These ridges in grey mist always look worse than they actually are. Scotland is slowly opening but just need to hope it doesn't all kick off again. Take care. Charlie.

    Brilliant! Pity about the weather Charlie however I am sure you enjoyed it anyway. I managed out yesterday and got a similar soaking albeit on a much shorter walk. Cheers for sharing. Another one to look forward to.

      Hi Paul, Its never a chore walking in Glen Shiel as its a terrific area but a bit dryer weather would have been good. I'll look out for your soggy upload shortly. Cheers, Charlie.

      Stevie, Maol Chinn Dearg is a super top and splits the ridge nicely. Certainly worth another visit as Glen Shiel generally deliveries some grand days. Cheers, Charlie.

      Hi Peter, The trick is to keep walking but preferably not in Tesco :) It just gets harder the older we get and only two good knees between us.... Unfortunately, I don't have either of them...LOL Cheers, Charlie.

    Nicely done chaps, two big walks in the last week. I'm surprised you headed west on that forecast though, as east was looking better.

    • @charliemccartney7055
      @charliemccartney7055  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Robin, Your right, west wasn't the best choice and the weather window we thought we might have didn't arrive until later in the day. Still great to be out on the bigger hills. Cheers, Charlie.

      @@charliemccartney7055 you still got reasonable conditions for a good chunk of your walk. Some hints of good weather later this week? 🤔

    Enjoyed seeing this route again which I know well as it is just down the road from me here in Invermoriston. Haven't been up here for a while but hoping to get back up soon. Were there many people about on the mountains and were there many mobile homes in the various useful walkers' car parks? I tend to stay clear of the popular mountains around here during the summer months or at weekends but I am keen to get out this summer for obvious reasons. Cheers, Charlie.

      Ian, The Glen is pretty quiet at the moment and possibly a good time to schedule a visit. The normal Isle of Skye traffic just wasn't there which I suppose isn't a surprise with nothing open. Only saw one other walker all day and three cars in the car park at the west end. Cheers, Charlie.

    Done that one a few times. My uncle was the game keeper for many years. He could walk all those hills in zero visibility and know exactly where he was. Ive helped get stranded walkers off the hill with him and no means to navigate to where they were just knowledge. He tought me to navigate and be in tune with the land. Like walking from there to Mallaig. Not useing a map or gps. Ok i had favourable weather on my side. A good day on the hill for you.

    Brilliant Charlie great video as Peter says you two glide over the Munro's, I split these into two trips, logistics with the road back to the start being a problem, did you use two vehicles or public transport? Cracking walk in not the best conditions. Thanks for sharing. Mick.

    • @charliemccartney7055
      @charliemccartney7055  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mick, On this occasion we had two cars which kept things simply. I've had a few adventures cycling down the glen during the summer season but not recommended. Public transport is a lot safer but the frequency isn't great. Cheers, Charlie.

      We befriended another couple on the route who offered a lift, otherwise hitch hiking is usually no bother in this area. Always plenty walkers driving each way who know what you're up to 👍

      Geoffrey, A bit wetter than we had thought. It looked as if the weather window was late in arriving and our early start wasn't to our advantage this week. Cheers, Charlie.
