    God damn the first 30 seconds is so true. It's too high risk and low reward to have a strong opinion on anything bc of the possibility of getting cancelled by the herd. Even though it annoys us and the people who hear us when we answer controversial questions evasively (like how politicians and athletes do) the benefit of speaking like that outweighs the annoyance every time by defending us from cancellation. I have so much admiration for people with hot takes who speak their mind. Great guest and episode Chris!!

    @8:52 I didn't appreciate the comment "the Left sees the Right as bigots and the Right sees the Left as groomers and child abusers." This is a false equivalency and please allow me to explain. For years and years those of us on the Right have been labeled as racists, bigots, violence ... yes, the most benign things are interpreted as "violence," such as the term "epistemic violence" referring to mistakenly calling a biological male by the pronoun "he" whilst he prefers "she." In fact, the major American news networks have called the Right "Nazis" too.
    I used to be on the Left (most of my life) but a major catalyst for my move to the Right was my hatred of the Right which I eventually investigated only to find that out the political Right is not evil, racist, or Hitler-like. Once I was able to see through that lie, I was open to the issues on the Right. So, just recently we on the Right started to point out that the Left are grooming students in schools and this is child abuse. I am a k-12 teacher and I actually SEE IT FIRST HAND. So our framing of the Left as "groomers" and "child abusers" is empirically correct for those who care to study what is happening in American public schools. So the guy made a false equivalency because the Left simply throws ad hominems at us, ad hominems that they refuse to back up YET we can prove with documentation from public school teachers that the Left are groomers and ergo child abusers.

    I loved this conversation and the previous one with Gurwinder. It's striking to listen to someone so brilliant who repeatedly mispronounces Manichean. I have heard this with other intelligent people using words such as imprimatur. It leads me to come up with a concept I want to call "literate irreligiosity." It's clear that Gurwinder has *read*, but it also seems likely that he has not been part of a church conversation or history course that discussed Manichaeism (or bothered to look up how it's pronounced). I see this quite often with smart people who might know much about many topics but who have holes in their knowledge when it comes to religion.

    • @juneelle370
      @juneelle370 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      IMO It’s not easy! You (and me) fortunately have an interest in introspection and belief in your spiritual and mental ability to do so. A lot of people get stuck and I wish they knew about introspection and growth mindset!
      I can’t imagine living without introspection/spirituality intuition ~it’s the only way to grow!

    • @501Labsmusic
      @501Labsmusic 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@juneelle370 But how do you know that's not our ego boosting some arbitrary accomplishment to make us feel better? How do we know that most people don't know these things and maybe this guy is just better at articulating what we all subconsciously already know? I would certainly feel a little less accomplished if that were the case.

    • @juneelle370
      @juneelle370 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My wish would be that most people do come to know this with age but my anecdotal life experience is that not too many people are introspecting and most actively avoid it for psychological protection. Also, again in just anecdotal experience-that most people don’t mature much with age. It’s all a matter of effort. If more people knew that that effort paid off, O think they’d do it. The vast majority are stuck in entertainment infancy, are tribal and regurgitate tribe thoughts. You can tell this is so when an argument is challenged and there isn’t a defense just empty rhetoric. Also, if the majority were maturing naturally -the world wouldn’t look like it does. , I don’t think we are “superior” for being introspecting -just that we’re fortunate that we can and by interest, do! We escaped the mindless mimicry societal path of empty entertainment laid out for us by society. For many, they want their information spoon fed mushy! I’m just happy I have tools to grow~ and I’ve got a lot farther to grow! ☀️ I do believe people are capable and if we create a society that wants independent thinkers and truly strong dedication to doing what’s right~then more people can be in a better place! So much is habituation and entrainment through our radios and screens

  • @entropiated9020

    To all those who call for absolute equality... have you considered that it is impossible to get any work out of a system at equilibrium? In other words, in a system where everything is equal, no useful work can be done. The reason people work and strive and compete is that there is something better from where they are currently, and they want to GO THERE. If you make every place exactly the same, there will be no impetus to go anywhere. We will all stay locked exactly in place, either by the authoritarian rules in place to keep anyone from being better than anyone else, or simply by the fact that there is no good reason to expend the energy to do anything at all. Thermodynamics works just as well with people as it does in mechanics.

      This is dumb. Think of all the work bot getting done because people aren't able to freely explore their chosen field due to poverty and extreme inequality.
